The attack on Hatchi had seen the rise of new power - heights not before witnessed in millennia. Such that it were, that something else had begun to stir. Deep, deep, deep into the Destron Crags, hundreds of miles beyond the fog-like barrier that had been the beginning of the mutilated landscape drenched in the vile Destron clouds, a beacon had begun to call out.
One blip, then two. Then one, and then four. This pattern followed a schedule, it seemed - for it repeated itself every four hours. The signal was easily traceable - but it led first to a barren, disfigured canyon. The signal would lead those daring enough to follow it down, down, down into the canyon. So far down, that what meager light that could be seen through the thick clouds of deadly Destron was consumed by utter darkness.
Following the length of the canyon, the daring would see in the distance, with powerful lighting equipment or with thermal imaging head gear, some miles away, a tall, foreboding structure. The signal, it seemed, was coming from the dark fortress stretching across several plateaus. To even reach the structure on foot, they would have to follow the winding path up the side of the cliff face of the largest plateau until they reach a broad courtyard.
Statues lined the main walkway, but whatever animals they had depicted had been terribly warped. Destron had a kind of melting effect on the stone over the decades, deforming the statues into grotesque mockeries of life. Every step taken would echo - for there was no wind whistling between the great towers. The eerie silence, met with the dark, withered stone of the fortress, would leave a dangerous, haunted impression.
The front doors may as well have been a gate - standing fifteen feet wide, and twenty feet in height, one would think giants had lived here. There are signs of electronic devices along the small walls, less than two feet tall and flanking the walkway - but the years of Destron exposure had rendered them largely disfigured and partially melted as well, rendering them unrecognizable and useless.
