Welcome, new players and veterans alike, to...
DRAGON BALL
SPARKING
DRAGON BALL
SPARKING
This thread is intended to be your quick-start guide into getting involved in the action here on Dragon Ball: Sparking! First and foremost, we'll go over what this site is: this is a roleplaying site that takes place in an alternate universe to the familiar Dragon Ball setting. Canonical characters like Goku and his friends do not exist, but familiar organizations and techniques do: you can still find a Capsule Corp and still harness the Kamehameha, but the characters you associated with those are nowhere to be found!
So, where do you begin?
First and foremost, you should familiarize yourself with the Rules of Dragon Ball Sparking. These cover some of the most basic guidelines on how you are expected to comport yourself within the community, as well as some basic roleplaying rules. After that, you should look into how the combat functions mechanically. The Combat Rules section covers key concepts such as Ki Points (KP) and Momentum (MP). The most basic explanation of these two concepts are that KP is used as a resource for activating techniques, while MP functions as a sort of special meter, which builds up as you fight and can be used on various special boosts, as described in the Combat Rules.Mechanics aren't the only thing to keep in mind, of course. You'll also want to familiarize yourself with some of the basic background information in the Plot section. The background elements are fairly light, and most of the story will be developed in real time by the players!
Okay, but I want to make a character!
Once you know what kind of character you want to make, you can head over to the Species page to go about choosing a species from which to build your character. Each species has two Core Traits which you receive no matter what, a choice of one Optional Trait out of three, and you may also pick two General Traits out of a pool shared by all species. In sum, this leaves you with two core traits, one optional trait, and two general traits.Once you get that sorted out, you'll want to start filling out your Character Application. As part of this, you are allowed to create three techniques for yourself, the rules on which can be viewed in the Techniques section. If you don't want to design your own, you may choose from the Prebuilt Techniques and rename them as you see fit. Each character has three techniques on creation, and earns a new technique every 10,000 PL. You can also buy additional Technique Slots at the Item Shop, which will also have useful items for you to purchase once your application is approved and you receive your starting experience. If you wish to make a character who focuses on having allies or underlings to do their fighting for them, you can head on over to the Companion Creation forum and familiarize yourself with the Companion Rules.
I got approved! Now what?
Now that you have received your starting experience, it's time to spend it. This is where the Character Progression board comes in. You may spend experience to raise your power level at a rate of 1:1 at the XP to PL Converter, which is also where you will spend experience for power level throughout your stay on the site.Remember, experience is for power and strong, mechanical items, while zeni is for utility, flavour, and fun! Now you're ready to post and get involved in the roleplay! Remember, you need to be on the right planet to join or create a thread!
Further down the line, you may find yourself with the choice to join or even make an Action Thread. These are high stakes threads that can have entire cities or planets in danger with the potential to seriously hurt or even kill your character. You can read more about Action Threads, as well as the Wounds, Death, and Afterlife thread that details what can happen if your character is wounded or killed.
