Mortal Coil
Garon's PL: 40,000 (10,000 x4)
Garon's attack soared through the air, making direct contact with its target! But as the dust scattered, it became clear that his Mercury Cannon had done nothing. Lottus hadn't even flinched, much less drawn blood. The Super Saiyan had little for Garon beyond a sarcastic salute and an order to wait his turn in line. "Screw that!" Garon yelled, clenching his fists. "I'm not done with you, you–!"The only thing that stopped Garon from charging at Lottus head-on then was the sound of a lady's voice, who promptly started barking orders. Shocked, Garon turned around at first, thinking the voice was coming from behind. It took him a moment to realize that whoever was talking, it was less like they spoke through a megaphone and more like they beamed unwanted thoughts directly into his brain. "...Anyone else hear that?" he asked, not to anyone in particular. The concept of telepathy being something beyond a fictional superpower was foreign to Garon. At the moment, he failed to completely recognize the technique as such. Either way, he wasn't a fan. The lady introduced herself as "Earth's Guardian" and blabbed on about things Garon definitely knew and would follow through on.Earth's Guardian? That wasn't a title to be earned; it was a responsibility to be shared (unless the title was his, in which case he'd gladly accept his throne atop hero society.) Garon rolled his eyes; the self-proclaimed "Guardian" looked physically strong, even from a distance. But her Power Level didn't hold a candle to any Super Saiyans in the room. Even if her advice was sound, her threats were solid, and she was the only other person taking proactive action towards the problem... who was she to boss him around? If anyone, the Guardian of Earth should have been someone who really deserved it, like the true strongest fighter on the planet, or..."Holy shit, is that the President?"More and more fighters were piling in. A loud, short man with insults to spare, that damn red Namekian from outside West City, some lady in a pirate outfit, a certain Konatsian, who Garon had failed to notice on account of his lack of a ki signature, a martial artist, some bug man, and yes, even the President of Earth had joined the battle. Whatever pressure Garon had felt to show off for his first big hero debut had officially been tripled. If he could impress the President on his first big fight, his status as a hero would skyrocket! In the best-case scenario, he could even get a statue built in his honor. With so many heroes and what felt like twice the number of villains, Garon turned to the crowd of fighters with confidence. Even if the coming battle was going to be tough, it wasn't impossible. It couldn't be impossible. That's what he wanted to believe. Before he could take a step forward and enter the fray, it was over. Without declaration, the instigator of the incident raised his sword, unleashing a terrible, ghoulish wall that stretched as far as Garon could see. It happened fast– too fast. He was too slow to dodge, too weak to block, and too scared to think. As oblivion approached at the speed of a freight train, fear written on his face, he could only extend his arms, close his eyes, and prepare for the worst. The teal wave of souls and death consumed him, surrounding him on all sides. But, as the attack came and went, he realized he felt no pain. Instead, something had dug him into a pocket of dirt where street asphalt used to rest. As Garon frantically looked around, on the verge of what felt like a panic attack, he noticed a man– almost a foot shorter than him– had intercepted the blast like a champ. As his Scouter warned that a Power Level's presence had disappeared, he failed to find words."What... I-I mean, what was that? What on Earth was that?!" Garon asked the man, almost not wanting to know the answer. Before he could continue speaking, he ducked his head as blows were traded from above them. "Shit, man, you could've died! I could've died!" Besides Lottus, that was the biggest show of strength he'd seen in his hero career by several magnitudes. As he took a step back and the battle raged on above him, a burning question entered his mind. What kind of hero needs saving?
