EARTHLING • 29 • FEMALE • MARTIAL ARTIST • RELATIVELY WELL-ADJUSTED
In mountainous reaches, thick woodland, or the dark nook of an urban centre, when one least expects it they may encounter Morrigan. An impassive human with white hair, she can often be found honing her martial skills in seclusion or putting them to the test in harsher conditions. She has a quiet interest in the macabre, occult, or generally supernatural topic of the Otherworld and its magical inhabitants as the origin of her godmother, for whom she was named.
BEATING HEART STYLE
A fledgeling martial art of Morrigan's own making, with credit to her master and godmother, the Beating Heart Style is founded on the prospect of mastering body and mind. An indeterminate aspiration, one sought by many, that masks the unnatural methods Morrigan employs. Normally autonomous bodily processes such as heart rate and metabolism are easily influenced by her will, and even matters of the mind are catalyzed or obstructed with the proper intention. To be continued...
Befitting such strange attributes, the Beating Heart Style is used to conserve energy and await an opening rather than consistently overwhelm an opponent. Its movements are efficient and fluid. The proper method of offense with the style is to maintain distance and deal fully extended strikes with the legs and arms that easily transition into the next. Defense is ideally practiced by swiftly parrying attacks or anticipating and cleanly rolling with those that cannot be avoided. The style exercises very few grappling techniques and performs less effectively against those who can continuously pressure the practitioner from within their typical reach.
Morrigan acknowledges her expertise as half-baked and relying too heavily on the body over the spirit. She is unlikely to teach others her ways any time soon.Makafushigi Adventure ♥ Martial Artist ♥ Crane School SecretsQuick Learner ♡ Homecoming
Light Attack || Flow Disruption [ART]
Morrigan throws a quick, precise blow at an opponent to impede their focus. Originally practiced by her master.
Power: 30%
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants: Exhaust
Light Defense || Greater Flow Disruption (8k)
Morrigan applies the same principle of her Flow Disruption towards defense, striking swiftly at the core of an attack and dispersing the energy.
Power: 40%
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants: N/A
Heavy Attack || Wave Expression [ART]
Morrigan empties her mind of feeling, allows ki to fill the vacancy, then violently shunts it out as a wall of energy when her emotions return. Another technique of Morrigan's master, one she has yet to perfect.
Power: 70%
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Overflowing
Heavy Defense || Heartbeat Expulsion
Taking a solid stance and allowing her heart to pound, Morrigan thrust her hands out and generates a large shockwave that can reflect incoming blows.
Power: 80%
KP Cost: 5 KP
Variants: Reflective
Medium Defense || Pulse Spike [ART]
Morrigan abruptly speeds up her heartbeat, giving herself a shock that heightens her reflexes against an oncoming attack.
Power: 80%
KP Cost: 3 KP
Variants: Evasive
Medium Attack || Pulse Spear (16k)
Morrigan causes her heart to beat explosively in time with a single strike, sending devastating vibrations through her foe’s defense.
Power: 60%
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Piercing
Light Attack || Tension Point (24k)
Tensing the muscles in a finger or two, Morrigan releases the tension with a surprisingly forceful flick. At range, she can use this technique to blast air like a bullet.
Power: 20%
KP Cost: 1 KP
Variants: N/A
Medium Attack || Torment (32k)
Reversing the principle of her benevolent Pain Quelling technique, Morrigan wreathes her choice of limb in ki and strikes to imbue her foe with it. If unabated, they will find their pain suddenly amplified from within, wearing them down rapidly.
Power: 60%
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Bleed
Medium Defense || Bear the Tide, Break the Heart (40k)
Striking swiftly to meet an attack halfway, Morrigan absorbs the brunt of force with a twisting motion, dispersing it throughout her body. By remaining unbroken, she reserves the energy within her to strike back even harder.
Power: 40%
KP Cost: 3 KP
Variants: Taunt
Medium Attack || Pulse Rush (48k)
Spiking her heartbeat, Morrigan forgoes avoidance to instead focus her heightened reflexes towards a flurry of sharp strikes.
Power: 60%
KP Cost: 3 KP
Variants: N/A
Light Defense || Flow Imposition (56k)
Reverse engineered from experiencing the technique at the hand of her master, Morrigan can use her ki to seize that of another, momentarily freezing them in their tracks or redirecting energy away from herself. It takes but a gesture to perform, but only works momentarily and leaves her vulnerable if she can't exert her control.
Power: 60%
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants: Evasive
Light Sparking Defense || Pulse Retribution
Morrigan focuses her heart to dodge at high speed, all the while staying within range and gathering energy to unleash a counterattack.
Power: 80%
KP Cost: 2 KP
MP Cost: 2 MP
Variants: Evasive, Lightspeed
Steady Beat
Morrigan is able to carefully measure her body’s natural processes and reactions. This precise control allows her to suppress her Power Level to either hide her presence or fight evenly with those weaker than herself. This technique is passive and does not require KP use.
Vital Sense
A technique that allows Morrigan to sense, measure, and differentiate the signatures of ki attacks and vitality of all living beings without the Anti-Sense trait. Powerful beings have a greater constitution and can be sensed at greater distances than lower ones. This technique is passive and does not use KP.
Pain Quelling (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #1)
By focusing energy down her spine, Morrigan can ignore a significant amount of pain, though KP techniques are powerful enough to bypass this. She can also share energy with others to suppress their pain, but this application’s effectiveness is crippled if the subject is resistant or untrusting.
Truth Striking (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #2)
Through locking hands and aligning their energy, Morrigan and another party are able to sense any falsehood in what the other says. The technique can be easily resisted, but doing so will alert the one who did not. This can work with more than one other person so long as each individual is in contact with each hand.
Morrigan's Materialization (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #3)
Using a flawed version of Magic Materialization, Morrigan can create shimmering black and white constructs from magic. Her creations are sturdy and demand minimal energy on her behalf, but lack variety beyond their differing weights and shapes.
Quasi-Kai Kai (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #4)
Given the time and materials, Morrigan is able to prepare a magic circle that channels energy from the Otherworld to facilitate high speed transportation in the mortal realm. This allows her to flavour space travel as teleportation.
White Palace (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #5)
Morrigan has created an abstract space within her mind, which she can access through meditation. In this space, she has the clarity to craft complex scenarios to suit her purposes, as well as analyze her own condition. If affected by a mental technique such as telepathy or mind control, she can (with OOC consent) pull the perpetrator in to speak with or confront them “face” to “face”.
Worldly Ties (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #6)
Hesitant to be truly away from Earth for the first time, Morrigan devised a spell utilizing a symbol that keeps her connected to the goings-on wherever it is placed. Depicting an encircled tree with roots at both its ends, she has a vague sense of disturbances in the area surrounding the symbol, and is able to quickly warp to such a spot by having baked her teleportation spell into the surrounding magic circle. This serves to flavour the effect of her Homecoming trait.
Heart Resonance (Ki for Dummies Guidebook #7)
With a willing participant close to her, Morrigan can align her energy with theirs and suppress their power levels to the same value for the purpose of a fair fight. It’s impossible to force someone into accepting Heart Resonance, and even if they initially allowed it, the technique can be overpowered at any time, even if only instinctually. When one person is freed from the technique, so is any other affected party.TRANSFORMATIONSAdrenaline Rush (x3): Morrigan floods her system with adrenaline at will, raising her physical ability to its natural limit and dulling her pain. When forced to remain in this state for too long, she suffers from adrenal fatigue for a period afterward.Heartthrob (x5): To help bridge the gap between herself and stronger fighters, Morrigan crafted an evolution of her Pulse Spike technique that increases her speed and power over a prolonged period rather than in bursts. Her heart booms audibly within her chest, delivering powerful vibrations wherever she strikes. However, this technique quickly becomes painful and difficult to sustain after a while.
