There had been a great collection of offworlder's coming to Earth for the World Martial Arts Tournament, a veritable treasure trove of new information and exciting new opportunities were just presenting themselves to people who were willing to look for them. Katsu was one such person, having come to Papaya Island specifically to learn new things, see new creatures, and possibly pick up some new kind of power he could utilize against the people, and using that term very loosely, who wanted him dead. Thus, when Katsu's Vampiric Senses picked up on a strange new scent, one unlike almost anything Katsu had ever come across before, it was natural that he was intrigued.
Katsu had to be careful however. As a Vampire he knew that there were some truly depraved predators out there, and it was just as likely that the scent he had caught was bait for a trap as much as it was something to learn from. So, rather than simply barging straight in as soon as he caught a whiff of this new scent Katsu waited patiently. He would follow the scent, but avoided secluded areas and ensured to keep himself from being seen following the scent. It was difficult; more than once Katsu thought he had permanently lost the scent, only to wander in the area until he managed to pick it up once more, sometimes with hours in between.
Slowly closing in on the scent Katsu had time to think and theorize, and he had managed to come up with the follow data points. One, this was not the smell of a singular individual alone; the smell had some variances from one trail to the next much like one human did to another, but with the same base scent underneath. Thus, this was the kind of smell an entire species put off, not just one or two members of that race. Second, they weren't animals. At least they didn't smell like anything with what Katsu would define as "blood". Instead their scent was overly sweet, with strong hints of exotic flora, and missing any sense of savouriness, the scent and taste most associated with meat. Thus, this species was somehow plant-based. It was so exciting! Katsu had never had the opportunity to speak with or observe a Plant-based sapient life-form.
Finally, Katsu would find himself in a position that he felt he was extremely close, yet still unseen, to the scent he was hunting down. His status as a Vampire meant he had no Life Energy, no Ki, to detect even with a Scouter, and he was almost sure that he had managed to avoid detection through more typical means such as sight and sound. He hadn't noticed anyone taking any special interest in his movements over the past few hours, and to his memory there hadn't been any person that had shown up an excessive number of times as Katsu had trailed his way across Papaya Island. There was only one last barrier between him and his target, and easing up to the edge Katsu would place his back to the wall and chew on a hot dog he had bought just a bit earlier to look casual, turning to look over his shoulder, trying to spy the strange scent he had been following all day, unaware that there was more than one person he had been looking for nearby without realizing it.
