The farmlands of Namek are important to all. There is very little wealth divide among the planet's population; we all work the fields at some point in our life. Shakuhachi himself recalls the days of youth working with his friends. The Namekians have very little use for what is grown, as they survive entirely on water for the most part, but that doesn't mean it is a useless act. The Ajisa plants hold a sacred place in the Namekian culture, with them being planted primarily to enhance the beauty of the planet. In these times however, not all Namekians are able to respect that.
As he walked in between the crops he greeted some of the friendlier of his kind. The tradition of planting Ajisa plants still held strong, but the tide was shifting. Increasingly more common across Namek, the Ajisa plants were being pushed aside for plants more befitting for the new faces of the planet. This was in reference to the settlers whom had been a very small number in Shakuhachi's youth; now they represented a sizeable amount of the population. Namekians did not reproduce very quickly which made the shifting demographic all the more striking.
When they first started arriving they seemed to enjoy the Ajisa fruit; there was apparently an opportunity to make a lot of money through selling them. But when more and more settlers arrived it became clear they were more interesting in planting their own crops than buying others. He heard from some of his peers that they didn't mind the new produce being grown but for Shakuhachi it represented more than a change of scenery. How long would it take until the Ajisa fruit were fully pushed off of Namek? Would anyone even care?
Maybe he was just stuck in his ways. Times were changing and would he be able to adapt to that? Maybe there was still something he could; maybe he could still make a difference. As he neared the end of the fields he heard an argument breaking out. He swung around and saw and Earthling in a heated discussion with an older Namekian. He didn't recognize either of them, but the Namekian looked disgruntled. "Just what the hell is going on here? I better go take a look at this before things really get out of hand." Shakuhachi rushed over and got between the two.
"Is everything alright?" He only asked the Namek for his point of view. "He's trying to muscle me out!" The Earthling got involved now. "I'm offering him ten times what his land is worth! I'm trying to make him rich; he's too stubborn to see it. This is the most fertile farmland in all of Namek; I got to get a piece of it. I'm being fair." Shakuhachi snapped back. "That's not your decision!" He scared him off, but it left a bad taste in his mouth. They were here whether he liked it or not, and they weren't leaving any time soon.
