"Did you seriously bring me here just to be your interior decorator? Not gonna lie to you sis, this place needs a little bit more than some new furniture and some pictures." Kaci, Gira's childhood friend from Earth, complained as she was helping her friend hang pictures on the wall.
"Don't forget the little gamer hideaway. I had to move all my stuff from Earth to get that whole thing set up." The young Saiyan had been homesick for Earth recently, so when she brought Kaci here, she was sure to also bring all sorts of photos depicting the nature and cityscapes of her home planet. While Kaci hung those pictures around the walls, Gira was handling the party decoration. She had already hung many colorful ribbons and a huge "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" sign.
"Stuff's also been getting kinda crazy here lately, and it's just going to get even crazier. Hanging out with you reminds me of simpler times." Gira smiled at her friend. Kaci sighed and cast her gaze to the ground. She felt kind of bad for Gira after hearing about the responsibility she was expected to take up.
"You're talking about how that Namekian dude wants you to be Queen of the Saiyans?" Kaci finished hanging the final picture.
"I don't get why you have to do this. So what if you respect this guy and he wants you to be Queen. You can decide what you want to do." She put her hands on her hips and looked her best friend up and down.
"That's the thing, this is what I want to do. Look at this place. It's barely being held together with duct tape and spit. Someone like you can't go outside and be safe. Not to mention the Saiyans out there who just destroy random stuff and kill people with the same coldness they would when they squash a fly buzzing around their head." Gira shook her head.
"Saiyans are warriors, not conquerors."
"There's a difference?" Kaci tilted her head to the side.
"Yeah, even if it's just a slight one. Saiyans should fight to improve themselves. That's what warriors do. I think that's why we have that inner drive to keep fighting. Saiyans are masters of self improvement. Its just gotten corrupted over the years into a desire for blood and conquest. Someone has to change that. If the Saiyans can be corrupted, they can become uncorrupted, right?" Gira began hanging decorations for her birthday party, the task she decided to take up weighing heavy on her mind. Kaci approached her friend and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You've got the strongest sense of justice of anyone I know, but you've gotta understand that you can't fix everything."
"Who says?" Gira shot back with her usual bravado, turning back to face Kaci.
"Even if I fail, i'd rather try and fail than run away and wonder for the rest of my life if I could have succeeded." Kaci rolled her eyes again. Saiyans were stubborn. It was kind of irritating sometimes, but she also understood that it was a valuable component of Gira's personality that drove her to do good and overcome her limits no matter how impossible it seemed.
"Besides, i'm not trying to fix "everything," i'm just trying to fix the Saiyans." Gira went back to decorating, hanging some bright, colorful balloons.
"Still... I hate to think that you might die trying to do this. You turn eighteen today, Gira. Your life should just be getting started. I don't want you to die on some alien planet. We've been together so long, it's scary to think about what life would be like without you. And more importantly, what would I tell your mom?" These words gave Gira pause. She knew that her attempt to take the throne might very well end up with her dying very young. Death wasn't exactly permanent if you knew your way around it. But she hadn't considered how her death might affect those closest to her, even if it wasn't permanent. Just the news of her death would break her mother's heart. Finishing up the decorating, Gira struck a heroic pose, a confident grin on her face.
"Give me a little credit here, Kaci. I know that what i'm doing is dangerous. That's why i've spent so long preparing. Not just by getting stronger, either. I've been gaining allies everywhere. They're gonna support me too. I won't be in this alone. Not really. Trust me, everything's going to be fine. I promise." Kaci looked into Gira's eyes, as if searching for a hint of doubt. She couldn't find any.
"Fine. Okay, Gira. I'm gonna trust you here. On one condition; I wanna help." Kaci responded to Gira's confidence with a look of determination. The resolve of her friend took Gira by surprise.
"You wanna help? No offense, Kaci, but you're not exactly a fighter."
"I don't need to fight. Here." Kaci pulled a tiny earpiece out of her pocket. It looked like the one that she had in her ear when Kaci was supporting her during her crimefighting work.
"I made some improvements to our comms. I can check your vitals and battle power through your insta-change watch once we install an update, and the earpiece scans your brain waves so I can keep track of your emotional state and your consciousness. Not only that, it's also connected to a radar program on my computer that lets me use your ki sensing ability to scan the position, speed, and battle power of anyone within your sensing range." She handed the new piece of tech to Gira, who looked at Kaci like she was some kind of witch. It looked like she wasn't the only one who was improving this whole time. Kaci had always been a genius with technology, but this stuff was next level.
"Kaci, you're a genius! How did you do this?" Gira stuck the earpiece in her ear. Its new, sleeker design rendering it almost invisible.
"I'm not about to let you make me look bad. If you're gonna get better at fighting, i've gotta step up my own pursuits. So, how about it? Does The Great Saiyagirl still need her Oracle?" A small smile formed on Kaci's face.
"Heck yeah she does. Let's do this together." The two soul sisters embraced for a moment. Gira wanted to fight this battle alone, but the thought of having Kaci in her ear providing support filled her with a sense of relief. Once the two broke away from their hug, Kaci pat her Saiyan friend on the back.
"Okay, together it is. Now, let's forget about all this heavy bullshit and just have fun today. You've been working hard, so you deserve that much." Kaci gave her friend a reassuring smile. Gira nodded, feeling leagues better about this whole thing.
"Yeah, let's party!" Gira pumped her fists into the air, but her enthusiasm was quickly put into check when she remembered that she and Kaci were the only ones here right now.
"Uh... but first, I better send out the invites." Closing her eyes, she began to search the energy currents of Planet Plant and beyond, seeking out her friends. Zuci, Cabasa, Nero, Ryugan, Russ, Maxsuz, and Cello would soon receive a telepathic message.
"Yo! Gira here. Hope you don't mind the sudden intrusion into your head, but I promise i'll make this fast. I haven't really brought it up, but today is my birthday. I'm hosting a party at my home in Sadala City, and all of you are invited! We've got video games, music, cake, and a feast fit for a Saiyan! I'd really like to see you guys here cuz... who knows how long it's gonna be until we can all get together like this again."
