Before Gandigan had become King of the Mazoku, and before he even had the idea to go after the title of King he had envisioned something else: the construction of roads throughout the Outer Plait, and watchtowers to go alongside them. One of the things which he had most wanted to cut away from Mazoku society was the rampant banditry that was spread throughout the region. Occasionally it was off worlders, but more often than not it was larger clans preying on the smaller ones, much to his anger.
Gandigan had hoped that roads and watchtowers might provide some degree of security. Roads would give people an idea of the safe places to go, while the watch towers would be staffed by warriors who could protect those unable to protect himself. He had wanted to give the leadership of this warrior band to Mollusc, however he had been unable to find the Dragon Clansman recently, and so for the time being he populated the tower with his own personal guardsman, feeling as though he could protect himself for the time being.
Using magic would have made the process a whole lot quicker and easier, but then was something about doing it by hand that Gandigan enjoyed. He created work shifts among some of the local Mazoku, including a rotation of his guardsmen so that they could get to know the land they would be guarding better. For hours on hours they would slowly brick the road, while others cut down trees so they would have the wood they needed for the towers.
Balafon as always stood nearest to Gandigan, despite his demands that the Mazoku find something more useful to do. When it came to being a King, defiance was always a tricky line to tow. Some people had to be able to stand up to him, but if he let everyone do it then no one would take his word seriously.
As Gandigan was putting the finishing touches on this last section of road he hear a snap. Quickly swinging around, he caught glimpse of a tower support road splitting in two, leading to several Mazoku falling from up top. He tried to move to save them, but he wasn't sure if he could get there in time. "Go! Catch them!"
