Darkness. Total, unrelenting darkness. It was powerful. The untapped essence of shadow was hard to come by, but when you had a supply, you could use it to do a great many things. Reshape mountains, steal someone’s identity, even cross years of distance in moments. Today, that was Erebos’ goal. He needed to practice his teleportation skills. It was an important part of his magical prowess to be accustomed to the harsher spells in his arsenal. Right now, he surmised he could perform this spell with a few months worth of essence, and that was if he really pushed himself. Perhaps a shorter distance would be a good way to practice.
Whatever the room had been before Erebos transformed it didn’t matter. What mattered now, was that he and Kaza sat face to face in total darkness. Legs crossed, he grabbed the girls hands, and closed his eyes, focusing on the darkness.
”Alright, Kaza. We’re going to teleport to the moon, okay? Just stop by, collect some funny rocks, maybe scare an astronaut or something. Sound good?”
He didn’t wait for an answer. Instead, he began to chant. Dark and ancient words, pronounceable only by a demonic tongue. Kaza would perhaps catch every third word, and that was only because she’d heard the incantation before. They’d used it to get to Earth, after all. The darkness in the room, pure and unfiltered, began to take shape. It closed in on them, tightening further and further. It became suffocating. Maddening, even. The stress was almost too much to bear, until...
-Pop!-
The dark was gone. In its place was a rather dull circular room. Cracked stone walls, dull and uneventful in its purpose. There were runes on the floor, thrumming with the afterglow of a spell well cast. Had they been caught in a protective hex?
Erebos stood up, brow raised as he ran his hand across the wall. Dust curled into the grooves of his glove, which he wiped quickly onto his pants. Where the hell had they ended up?
”This isn’t the moon… Do you think this actually is the moon? Maybe there’s a hidden temple inside. Moon wizards, perhaps?”
His attention turned to the opposite wall, where a simple door lay half open. It kind of looked like a chocolate bar. He poked his head through, and found they were in a crescent hallway. Cobwebs lined the corners, and a strange haze filled the places that shadow dare not touch.
Stepping out into the hall, he put his hands on his hips, and pursed his lips. ”Whoever cast that spell was damn good at it. Be ready to break stuff… just not yet. Try to be subtle for like, three rooms or so.”
