On the Road Again (Mayze)

Walking through the surprisingly busy- especially for a village of this size- market square of Tarble, was a lone saiyan figure. Clothed in typical saiyan battle armor, a blue under suit, and donning a rather impressive scowl, the saiyan made for an intimidating sight for most of the regular denizens of the humble town. Most scurried away with a quick glance. The braver, 'tough' ones were sent packing with a heavy glare and a swift shake of the head. Still, even then, did that stop everyone from approaching the mercenary? No, no it did not.

One merchant, (and that's a generous word for this fellow), tried to test his luck. The purple-skinned, nicely dressed brenchian merchant swung out of an alley in front of the saiyan, introducing himself and pushing a beverage product right in Mayze's face. The saiyan immediately forgot the brenchian's name, and with nary a moment, stepped around him and continued on. This did not deter the salesman.

The reason for mercenary's dour mood wa-

"Oi, heyyyyyy why the long face mate? Come on, this'll turn your frown upside down. Lemme tell ya," the merchant quickly caught up with Mayze, placing his hand on the saiyan's shoulder. He tried to turn the saiyan around, but Mayze didn't budge an inch. Without missing a beat, the brenchian stepped around with a broad grin full of pearly whites, coming face to face with a very unamused Saiyan.

"Man, don't look at me like that! Look I know just what you need," the brenchian pushed a beverage into the saiyans face, "Look, one swig of this grade a, one-hundred percent pure, refined, deliciously tasting he-tap, and you'll be pumped and ready to go for any fight," the merchant took two quick glances side to side before leaning in with a conspiratorial whisper, "They say this is the King's favorite pre-workout drink. Everyone's dying to get this, I'll even give you a sample," the merchant finished with a wink before pulling back, pulling another he-tap out of what was seemingly thin air.

"Step off peddler," the warrior snarled in a low voice, before briskly walking away. Anyway, he really ought to finally head to the capitol to meet with Vo-

"Woahhhh Mr," the merchant once again blocked Mayze's path with a nervous grin. An audible sigh could be heard from the saiyan, "Look, I know your type. Believe me. I do. You saiyans get in a fight n lose n then you're all down in the dumps and grouchy. 'Grrr I'm too weak and pathetic and my pride is shattered,' the merchant pushed the drink into Mayze's again with a serious look, "With one of these before every fight you'll never lose again. Practically makes you super! With one swig you'll be ready to bench press one of the moons. Although," the merchant glanced towards the tail wrapped around the -very irritated- saiyan's waist, "you maaaaay not one to do that. Give your... well you know. Anyways, look whoever kicked your a-"

Unfortunately, for the brenchain he never got to finish his pitch. A quick uppercut from Mayze struck the merchant in the chin with a resounding crack. He was sent sky-rocketing towards the air, perhaps towards a certain jirenjin walking through the village. The market quickly cleared after that, allowing the saiyan to walk in peace.

Mayze grinned as his opponent made no effort to stop his attack. Too easy. His fist struck true, forcefully slamming into the alien's gut. However, the alien didn't budge an inch, instead shrugging off the blow as if it were nothing. The saiyan had placed a lot of force in that blow, and to see it shrugged off as if it were nothing was concerning. A momentary look of confusion crossed the saiyan's features, just who is this guy or thing, he thought. Once more, he wondered if this was some sort of advanced robot.

The warrior was thrown off balance as his arm was grabbed by a warm hand pulling him forward. A fist came careening towards the saiyan's jaw, but he quickly parried it with his free arm, deftly pushing it out of the way. Still, the force behind the strike was staggering, and left a dull pain in the arm he used to parry it. Again, he was taken by surprise by sheer force, and glad that he hadn't decided to tank the strike. He was positive that would've knocked him off his feet.

"Fighting strong opponents has served me well!" The saiyan took the brief opening as an opportunity to go on the offensive once more. He wrenched his arm out of the alien's grasp, and kicked out with a leg, aiming to sweep Raiya off his feet. He followed by clasping both his hands together over his head, and swinging down, intent on sending the alien straight into the ground if he managed to trip him up with the leg sweep.

Just sending some normal fisticuffs Raiya's way.

Mayze's strikes rung true. His fists slammed into Raiya's gut with a loud thunk, sending the alien into the dirt street with a loud crack as the alien hit the ground hard. The ground shook, and cracks appeared around the impact due to the force.

A grin flashed across the saiyan's face, as he prepared to gloat. The momentary lapse in judgement was all Raiya seemed to need.

Nearly faster than Mayze's eyes could follow, the alien pulled his legs back, and shot them forward. The strike nailed the saiyan in the gut, knocking the wind from him with a loud gasp.

A primal sense of satisfaction filled the warrior as his haymaker clocked Raiya in the temple. The alien was sent stumbling back in a daze, and for a moment Mayze thought Raiya would fall, but the alien remained on his feet. In a way Mayze was impressed. He had knocked out many a foe with that technique. The fact that the alien challenger was still standing was a testament to his durability, if nothing else. He felt a bit of respect for the warrior after withstanding a blow like that.

The mercenary didn't take advantage of Raiya's dazed state. Instead, he took a few paces back towards a building and settled into a fighting stance. Raiya turned to face him with... a smile?!? A brief look of surprise crossed the saiyan's face. Who is this guy? He figured the alien would be furious, instead he was... grinning?

Mayze's face quickly shifted to a neutral expression as Raiya praised him, "Well, you know how to take a hit. Sure you can keep up?" was his quick response.

The warrior didn't have much time to react as Raiya suddenly charged forward with a deceptive speed given his size. The alien slammed into him with the force of a human truck, "Shit," he grunted. The alien wrapped him up, and ran him through a building like it was built out of paper mache. The saiyan grunted in pain as they crashed through the wall into the interior of a dimly lit tavern. He twisted around, and pushed off from Raiya, breaking free from the alien's grasp. Adrenaline pumping, ready to pounce forward, he was suddenly wrenched from his battlelust when a furious yell shook the room.

Mayze's energy blast was interrupted by Raiya. The alien jumped in front the blast, letting it smack against his chest with no real damage. The saiyan lowered his hand with a snort. He hadn't put enough in that blast to kill the man, merely scare him off or knock him unconscious. He was a nuisance getting in the way of his battle, and should have left when his patrons did. This was his first real battle in ages. He didn't want anyone interfering. Thankfully, Raiya seemed to have read his mind as the alien picked up the barkeep, and unceremoniously tossed him out through the newly made entrance of the tavern.

The alien turned back, lecturing the saiyan, Now he was telling him how to fight? That was rich. Mayze was a battle-hardened warrior. He knew how to fight, "Ironic that you are lecturing me on fighting. You haven't landed a real hit on me yet," his tone was cold, lip curled.

He watched as Raiya extended two arms out, clearly preparing some sort of attack. The alien's words irked the saiyan, "Taking it easy on me?," he scoffed, "I've heard that line a lot. Those guys aren't aro-"

The saiyan was interrupted when Raiya released his attack. Mayze tensed as the energy waves zipped towards him, crossing the distance between the two fighters in a near instant. He barely got his arms up in time in a vain attempt to block the energy wave. The energy slammed into the saiyan's arms. He grunted in pain as the energy burnt the sleeves of his undersuit, and seared his arms. He was able to hold it at bay for only a moment more before it became to much. His block was broken, and the energy washed over him. An explosion of energy erupted with him at the epicenter. A cloud of smoke formed around him, obscuring his vision of whatever damage may have happened to the tavern.

Mayze was still conscious, but heavily wounded. He fell to one knee, breathing heavily. His battle armor had been utterly destroyed from the blast with the under-suit burnt away, leaving his upper chest exposed. Soot covered the red burns and blisters that engulfed his chest and lower arms. It was serious damage, but he could still fight.

He looked up, making out what he thought may have been the outline of Raiya, "So," he began, breathing heavily, "That's what you've been holding back," the saiyan shook head, "Heh, not bad," he slowly rose to his feet, "But I'm not done yet." All he needed was a moment to catch his breath.

The smoke obfuscating Mayze's vision faded, and he saw that the tavern had practically destroyed. Only some blackened, scorched floorboards remained, but everything else was gone. The barkeep's entire livelihood had been destroyed by the blast. Hopefully he had insurance. Mayze certainly wasn't going to pay for the damage.

The saiyan sighted his eyes on Raiya, who was spouting off while slowly approaching. The saiyan shook his head at the alien's words, "I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve too. Believe that," Mayze tensed as Raiya dashed forward, and quickly replied, "Fixed? Is this a lesson to you?"

Again, the alien behemoth was shockingly fast for his size. Mayze tried to lean back to avoid the incoming knee, but was too slow. The pain was affecting his concentration, "Guh," he groaned, eyes widening as Raiya's knee slammed into his gut. He doubled over, nearly falling face first into the floorboards. Stunned, he was unable to avoid the incoming elbow that slammed into his back, driving him into the floorboards with a pained grunt. His face smashed into the wooden surface, splintering it, and opening up a large gash above an eye.

Mayze laid there for a moment, seemingly done, before letting out a loud roar of frustration. He pushed himself off the ground in a sudden movement, jumping to his feet. The saiyan reared back a fist, pouring all of his energy into it as a blue aura formed around his fist. With another yell, he sent it careening towards Raiya's jaw in an uppercut, "Go to hell!"
