The fact that this planet still had regular ports struck Hayle as utterly charming. It wasn't unique in that, of course. Lots of places still had them. But when people developed cheap, reliable, atmospheric-flight-capable spacecraft... it was rarely the most efficient way to move large amounts of cargo around the planet. And yet these Earthlings still did exactly that!
Not just that; there were plenty of boats for pleasure, large ships packed full of people enjoying cruises and so forth. Such things weren't unique to Earth either, and were in fact more common in her experience, but it was the industrial side of things that had so sparked the Arcosian's imagination. She'd left Beyk, her feathery right-hand man, discussing rates and travel times with one of the more prominent freight companies as she went off to explore the docks herself.
It was pleasing to just walk and observe. Mostly, she was musing as to whether this might be the easiest way into this planet's economy. Logistics was a time-honoured way of establishing a foothold; more efficient ways to move goods and people around a planet cut down on travel time and overheads. It was something that as an Arcosian she had little experience with herself. She'd been able to loop the average planet in less than an hour almost since the time she could walk. But she understood the limitations of the other species of the galaxy, it's hardly complicated.
And its cheap, too. Small shuttles adapted for cargo and transport duties were low investment, really. She could even repurpose them if it didn't work out here. The more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea.
Maybe that's why she doesn't notice when the chain tying an enormous metal cargo container to a crane snaps, and the whole mass is sent tumbling down towards the diminutive figure. She'd been wandering idly and had apparently wandered right into the wrong place at the wrong time. Not... that she's actually in any danger, but with how small she is it'd be easy to think that this is the end of lovable Hayle!
