The sun was shining, the waters of the Eternal Ocean shimmering with its reflected intensity beneath the bright blue sky. The endless expanse of atmosphere stretched from horizon to horizon, broken only by a few pale wisps of cloud, the silhouettes of seabirds, and… A falling star.
It first appeared as a tiny pinprick of light, almost invisible in the bright, unfiltered afternoon sun. But as it descended, its momentum fighting against thicker and thicker layers of atmosphere, a corona blazed into life around it, as it began to trail vapor and flame in its wake. The mysterious object from space hurtled cataclysmically down to Earth, coming closer and closer to impact. A thunderous, rushing sound disrupted the peaceful ambience of waves gently rolling against the shores of scattered islands. It built and built into a cacophonous scream of superheated, supersonic fury as the moment of collision approached, reaching an ear-splitting crescendo. And as it slammed into the water with a wet clap, the sudden quiet was somehow even more deafening.
Heavy, choppy waves and billowing steam disturbed the serenity of the ocean’s surface for a few minutes as it absorbed the extraterrestrial impact, but eventually all returned to its prior state of sunny calm. If nobody had seen the object fall, it would almost seem as though nothing had happened at all.
Minutes passed, and calm settled back over the idyllic little island chain that had just borne witness to this violent event. The birds that had scattered resumed their lazy gliding, gently guiding themselves to the water’s surface to dive for fish once again. They sat atop the water, bobbing beneath its rolling surface, rising again. Some lucky ones emerged with a catch, provoking squawking squabbles as they flapped frantically to escape with their prize. They were oblivious to the fin emerging silently from the depths, cutting through the water towards them, as whatever creature it belonged to pushed against the surface, creating a bulge ahead of itself with the force of its pushing against the water. Almost too late, the flock of birds noticed the danger and in a flurry of white feathers, they took flight. Panicked squawking and flapping disrupted the peace once more as something burst up from the water into their midst. As the foam and frightened birds cleared, the creature hung there in the air, hovering just above the waves. In one hand - for it did have hands - it was clutching a bird, hanging lifelessly in the alien being’s grasp. Frostbyte had finally arrived on Earth, and he’d already found lunch. He smiled in self-satisfaction, though it was hidden behind the fearsome fanged mask that covered his face.

Rising higher into the air, his crimson eyes scanned the islands for a good place to set down. His gaze fell on one spit of land that was a little larger than the rest in the area - sporting a few trees. Deciding that would suffice for the moment, he drifted lazily through the air to set down and start building a fire. There didn’t seem to be anyone around, which suited him just fine. He wasn’t in the mood to share his food.
