Barracuda found himself fishing by the Yahhoy Port as a meditative practice to pass the time. He was always looking for ways to slow down into the ease and grace of the moment ans a way to sharpen his mind and spirit. The more he was able to construct stillness, the more he was able to manipulate that open space to make room for the expansion of his variety of techniques. His mind's eye was like a blank canvas that got bigger and bigger the more he slowed down. The more room he had, the more things he could paint. He sat down with his legs off the side of a wooden dock at the pier, and placed down his sword next to him.
He went inside his coat and patted around until he found a pouch of golden raisins. He had heard somewhere that raisins were an effective form of fish bait, so he figured he would try it out. There were no fish on Gemoon, not anymore at least, and there hadn't been since long before he was born. He had only ever heard rumors about this pastime and how relaxing yet challenging it could truly be. Barracuda took out his newly purchased fishing rod, and examined it thoroughly before tying raisins to the end of a hook on the fishing line. He took a deep breath and paused before slinging the rod behind him and throwing it out into the water. "Time to bake the donuts," he thought to himself.
He sat. At first he was very attentive and almost intense, but as time passed he became more calm. He waited. His body and his nervous system began to rest. He took another deep breath. Minutes passed, clouds went through the sky, and people came and went doing various business and shopping throughout the port. Boats came and went at the docks. Barracuda stayed patient and waited for something to happen. Nothing bit the hook of his fishing rod.
He began to slightly doze between levels of consciousness...
"Maciel," a familiar voice uttered. Barracuda sharply rose and looked to his right and left -- nobody called him Maciel anymore or even knew that that used to be his name. Who could possibly be calling out to him?
"Behind you, you meathead!"
Barracuda was even more taken aback. Nobody called him meathead except...
He turned around to be greeted by his deceased bandit-Sergeant, Nelson. Nelson was one of Cuda's right hand man as a part of Cuda's Clan, one of the most ruthless troupes of violent hooligans that the Avanchit star system had ever come to know. He was a tall, dark skinned, long ravenous haired Gemoonian, who was skinny but muscular and had the demeanor of a simpleton. People took Nelson's demeanor as weakness all the time, which made him a perfect agent for destruction. Nobody ever saw it coming when he flipped his switch. One thing he always was, was loyal, and that's what made him one of Barracuda's best men.
The problem is...Nelson died years ago. Nobody in Barracuda's Clan was left alive after the last raids and wars they were involved in.
"N..Nelson?!" Barracuda asked as he turned around completely shocked and confused.
"Who else would I be?" Nelson responded. "What are you doing all the way out here with a stick in the water?" he asked as he sat down next to the bewildered Cuda.
"I'm...I'm out here training my mind. I'm getting sharper," he answered, caught off guard. "How are you here?! What are you doing?"
"Looks like you've gotten soft to me. I can't believe Killer Cuda is on Earth in a poncho and beads fishing by the lake!" Nelson said, laughing. "I've missed you, old pal."
Nelson put his hand on Barracuda's shoulder and they embraced each other with an earnest hug. Barracuda didn't know what to say, so he didn't say anything. They just sat there in silence for a while as Barracuda waited for a fish to take a bite out of his bait raisins. The wind blew slightly. The air was cool. The sky was a beautiful array of hues. The sun was gonna begin to set in an hour or so.
"I had to start over. I want to be better," Barracuda said.
"I know, brother," Nelson responded.
"She's gone..."
"I know brother," Nelson responded. "You're a tough bastard, as always. I would've never gotten out of bed again after what you went through."
"One day at a time."
"My only advice...Keep your head on a swivel, boss. You're a long way from home. You know hell, but different hells have different rules of engagement. You have to learn this place. Don't get caught slipping," Nelson said.
Right then an explosion happened in the near distance! Barracuda felt a fish biting at his fishing rod, but he let it go into the water in the confusion of the blast. He turned around and Nelson was gone. It must have been a dream! "How long was I out for?" he thought. "I gotta stay sharp, even in theta-brainwave states."
Twenty to twenty five raiders in armor and scouters descended from the heavens and crashed through a nearby set of warehouses behind where Cuda was fishing. The Gemoonian hopped up and looked towards the chaos. The raiders were attacking and killing innocent people, in an attempt to rob the goods and resources of the seaport. Barracuda thought for a second as to whether or not he was going to get involved...
At the same moment, a ki wave destroyed the dock he was sitting on, and a cloud of smoke was left behind. A couple of raiders tried to attack Barracuda, not knowing who they were dealing with. His power of anti-sense was on. The raiders laughed and celebrated, not realizing the impending consequences of their actions. The decision had been made for him. When the smoke cleared, he was levitating above the water, and the two raiders were terrified. He created and walked through a portal, immediately phasing through and smashing their skulls against eachother, punching them both in the stomach, and dropping them both with one enziguiri kick.
He saw a woman and child being grabbed up by the raiders...and thinking back to the broken mirror of his own past, he knew he couldn't sit back and watch. He sprung into action, sending a group of the raiders flying with a barrage of ki blasts, so small and intensified that they hit their direct targets and imploded, affecting no innocent people in the area.
"Get out of here!" Barracuda said to the woman who ran away screaming. The moment he took to warn the woman was enough of an opening for a group of raiders to overwhelm him, knocking him down through the ground with a piercing, combined electrified ki wave strike...In a reluctant attempt to get in the way of this robbery, Cuda had found himself outnumbered. Nelson was right, he should've kept his head on a swivel...
