With a bang and a crack, the mighty Galactic Patrol had lost a great vessel. Deep in the farthest reaches of space, a pirate lord had found himself hurtling through uncharted regions of galactic space near the fringe of the saiyan region, a mess of debris in his wake and a bombardment of alerts hailing him through the screen as he drifted without purpose into further space.
Meanwhile, in one of most oldest sources of life in the known universe, the acidic lagoon was much like normal. A marsh of corrosive sludge, a natural balance unchallenged and unbroken by the outside world for millenia untold. Aside from the occasional hunter straying too far into the breeding pits, it was rare for that natural hum of low drumming kekekeks and fizzling aqua to be interrupted by anything.
It wasn't until the teetering point in time where the sun begins to disappear over the horizon and the light beings to dim, when festering monotony was broken up and these two unrelated happenings crossed paths.
A bright streak of orange crossed the sky, accompanied by a deafening whistle, followed by a mighty splash that dried one of the many acid pools in a fraction of a second. The unbearable heat and fizzling acidic steam seared the air as a trembling saiyan figure clambered out of his broken escape pod, bringing himself to his feet.
"Fuck..." He murmured, looking to his busted ride and then to the stars above, before whizzing his head around dizzily to notice the noxious surroundings. He hoped that the natives hadn't noticed a thing, but with a deep steadying sigh he readied himself for the more likely scenario.
”Pitt? PITT?! Where the hell is this kid? He’d lose his damn head if it weren’t attached...”
Vocado Bonewood leaped from tree to tree, studying the swamplands below him for signs of life. Saiyan life in particular. There were plenty of things clicking and bubbling in the underbrush, but its undisturbed nature implied that his brother hadn’t shown yet.
They’d designated this place as their rendezvous years ago. It made sense to choose here of all places, because who would ever think to look for them all the way down here? Wasn’t exactly a tourist destination after all.
That being said, it seemed like Vocado was the first to arrive. He didn’t expect his brother to have fallen to anything. No Tuffle could do him in, and they’d long since surpassed the average Saiba. He still worried, though, because that was a big brother’s job.
”One of these days I’m gonna buy that punk a scouter and glue it to his head!”
His attention had been entirely on the swamp itself, leaving him completely unaware of the plummeting debris until only a few moments before it touched down. He might not even have noticed it then, had it not been for his scouter picking up an impressive Power Level rapidly approaching. His head shot up, watching the escape pod burn through the atmosphere before it suddenly zoomed past him and into a lagoon.
Vocado’s head whipped around, brows raised at the sudden arrival. Usually crash landings were a sign of trouble. Trouble for him, or trouble for the Tuffles, he wasn’t quite sure yet.
Cautiously, he dropped from his vantage point, approaching the lip of the crater just as a Saiyan spilled out of the pod. He looked pretty young from a cursory glance, but any extra manpower was good to him.
”Hail,” he called from above, trying his best to seem a little civilized. ”Not much a fan of using the space port, I see. Need help getting your bearings, friend?”
Should the man seem calm enough, he’d hop down and try to help him out of the crater if he needed.
”You don’t see many crash landings here on Vegeta— er, Plant, to the larger galaxy. That garb makes me think you might’ve had something to do with the crash. Not that I mind, of course. Space pirates are okay in my book.”
Pitt held his stomach as he marched through the marshland. He had skipped lunch to meet his brother at their usual spot in the lagoon. It grumbled at him as if angry with the Saiyan, but Pitt knew being late would only make his brother paranoid. Pitt knew the Saibamen here weren't good eats but as he kept going the thought seemed more and more appetizing. He shook the thought away once more wishing he could find one of those scouters like his brother, but none seemed to fit his face.
"If I don't find him soon I'll starve to death or he'll kill me... We should've picked a place with SOME kind of landmark. I respect the thought of subtly, but this is ridiculous!" The Saiyan said bickering to no one as he walked along. His thoughts of hunger were cut short by what he thought might be an over reaction from his older sibling. A giant quake could be felt through the ground and Pitt could get a feeling that it wasn't a natural occurrence. "Woah Cado's extra impatient today, I'd better get over there quick!"
It wasn't rare for the brothers to squabble, but it was rare to use such force. Pitt was sure his brother was tough as nails but that was quite an impact. His thoughts raced as he began flying his own paranoid worry growing. He eventually found the site of a crashed space craft, and what seemed to be the sole inhabitant reeling from the crash. He also spotted his brother and let out a sigh of relief shaking his head after realizing he had been doing exactly what he picked on Vocado for.
Oddly enough though this intruder seemed to smell familiar somehow, and even looked like a Saiyan. Pitt looked to his brother and landed beside him, he seemed to be casually speaking to the newcomer. "Sorry for being late bro, who's the new guy?" The Saiyan asked his brother before turning to the new warrior who seemed to be some type of pirate from his brothers words. "Yeah we have no beef with you, that is unless you're here to help the shorties."

"Hail," Kabe heard from above, and he reeled around to face the voice that had beckoned him. Looking up to the lip of the crater he found himself in, he saw a saiyan man with shaggy black hair hanging down behind his head, a scar on his eye and a blue scouter resting overtop. Before he could find the time to reply to the casual jest with which the stranger had addressed him, another stranger appeared from the wild.
A long scar ran down the second stranger's arm, with another shaggy mess of spikes resting atop his head and maroon breaking up the grey palette of his battle armor. Looking at this stranger, he noted something familiar about him. Both of them actually. But he couldn't quite put his finger on it - maybe he'd known them fifteen years ago when he was a little tyke on this divisional rock?
With an internal shrug of dismissal in the back of his mind, he decided to reply to the saiyans he'd happened upon. "Hail," he said, with a bit of humor obviously found in the formal nature of the greeting, with a little wave of his hand. "Bearings? I... Let's just say I didn't get to choose the landing zone today. Where are we?" He also realized that right away they had spotted he was a space pirate. Maybe they'd seen his bounty posters? He didn't think it was... actually, reflecting on the gold-emblazoned spiked armor he donned, it was kind of obvious. So much for discretion then.
"As for the shorties," he feigned a glare of the unbridled disdain he knew most saiyans to have for the tuffles, and continued. "I'm just here because I split with my crew. The last thing I want is to help a bunch of little rats with guns win a war."
As he finished reply, a little spark of realization washed over his face. "Oh! Where are my manners. The name's Kabe. You've probably seen my bounty posters around. What about you guys?"
Vocado's unease vanished. Any semblance of worry in his bones were gone now. Pitt had been gone for a while, but whatever mission he'd been on had gone well enough that he returned without any new scars. He wanted to smile, but he kept it under wraps for now, opting instead to give his younger brother little more than a simple wave.
"That's what I'm about to find out, Pitt."
Kabe seemed, at least vaguely, against the Tuffles. That was a good sign. Generally though, he didn't know many Saiyans who were Tuffle sympathizers. Some saw the war as pointless, sure, which he could sort of understand, but seeing the Saiyans as wrong? It simply didn't work in Vocado's head!
Whatever the case, this pirate's story seemed sound enough. Trusting him seemed fine for now.
"The name's Vocado. Vocado Bonewood. This is my younger brother Pitt. Right now we're in the Saiba Pits, which is..." He clicked his Scouter, and read out the data. "About a three days journey from civilization, on either side of the planet. There's the mercenary outpost about a day out, though. You'd probably fit in fine there."
Kabe... Kabe... Why did that sound so familiar? Wait... Didn't they have a kid nephew named Kabe? Could just be coincidence. Their sister died a while ago. Surely her kid died with her... Right?
Pitt felt the tension in his muscles relax at the confirmation of the new Saiyan's allegiance. Of course a fellow Saiyan detested the Tuffle's and their half of the planet, the opposite is unthinkable. Although happy to have found a friendly face, it was bittersweet that Pitt wasn't gonna have a good fight before the boring missions his brother had ready for him.
Pitt nodded in agreement as his brother introduced him and finished his sentence. The larger Saiyan then gave his older sibling a hearty pat on his shoulder. "That's right were the Bonewood bros, captains of the Shredder Corp. We know that spot very well seeing as it's the place most of our troop comes from. You seem a bit beat up but I'm sure you're tough enough to make it around here."
Pitt not one for etiquette seeing as he was never old enough to be taught the noble Saiyan ways like his brother had. Took a step towards the pirate and gave a good sniff before giving him a shocked look. "Damn you are strong! And no wonder you reek of that same power our damned uncle Callion has." Pitt catches himself after the fact rubbing the back of his head nervously as he takes a step back. "No offense though I'm sure you're a way better guy than that bastard!"
The warrior adjusted his armor a bit and made an ahem noise to regain his composure. He extended his large hand to the younger Saiyan, as an attempt to have some type of decorum as his brother does. Vocado always said to him when they were younger "Much as a punch says, a greeting can say just as much." Now he was beginning to get what that meant.
Regardless of it's acceptance, Pitt would try to change the subject. "Anyway if it ain't to personal, what happened to you and your crew?"

"Bonewood?" Kabe spat, blatant shock on his face at the coincidence of it all. He was consumed in thought for a moment as he thought over the facts. Was it possible there were two bonewood families? It seemed an unfathomable aligning of the stars for the first people he meets on plant after returning fifteen years later to be relatives of his.
Then, when Pitt mentioned his 'damned uncle Callion' and the similarity in their... smell? He wasn't sure what he meant by that, but it all clicked in a little harder. "No fucking way. Uncle Vocado? Uncle Pitt?" Saiyans were a little more mature of mind by age three than some other species in the universe, but Kabe was sure now why it had been that he'd felt these two were familiar. A hazed memory of his mother's brothers when he was very young flickered in the backdrop of his mind, and he could immediately tell which was which.
"You know, I had a kanassian tell me I'd have a 'great reunion' this year, but I thought that was just fish man nonsense. This is crazy- how are you guys? How's dad?" He assumed they must have been having a blue or something from Pitt's words, and he wasn't quite sure if he was just hallucinating after hitting his head really hard in the crash or something, but nevertheless he was excited by this fateful turn.
Vocado didn't believe the kid at first. His response could've been pre-prepared, or maybe a good act to put on when in dire straits, but how in the hell could this kid not only correctly guess the name of a currently dead family member, but look so similar to him too? Whatever hangups he had about the situation faded quickly, and he swooped in to yank the kid into a vicious embrace.
"HAHA! WE GOT ONE BOYS! ANOTHER BONEWOOD IS STILL ON THE BOARD BITCHES!"
He'd let go quickly, coughing and nodding as if he was totally chill. Kabe's question made him a little sad, but he answered it all the same. "We're uh... Doin' alright I guess. The family's been in a bad way since you last said hi. Our pops kinda... Abandoned us. Us two have been on our own for I think a decade, if not more."
The eldest Bonewood gave Pitt a somber look. To think they made it to see the day when another Bonewood would return, and a cool one at that.
"Suffice it to say, Clan Bonewood isn't well liked around here. We've been doing our best to un-tarnish the family name after... Whatever the hell happened that ran our name through the mud, but it hasn't been going too well."
Pitts jaw dropped at the shocking reunion of his nephew and the Bonewood clan. The chances of such a happening were one in a million. Questions reeled through his mind as his brother embraced the returned family member. How did this happen, and why? What really happened to his sister, one he never really knew. And most importantly, how did Kabe end up as a space pirate?
These thoughts were cut short by the look given to him by his brother. Pitt let out a hearty laugh and with a hefty hand swung it towards Kabe's back in a welcoming matter. "Welcome aboard nephew! hehe gonna take a bit getting use to not being youngest anymore!" Pitt said happily, taking pride in the strength of his nephew. "But with you here we can turn all this rotten luck around... That is if you decide to stay for a while. We don't have much but what we do have is yours."
"Not sure how much you remember." Pitt said now fanning his arms out and gesturing to their surroundings. "But I promise, this planet is much more than just this dump. So why not stay for a while, I'm... well I'm pretty sure your dad will be stoked to see you." Pitt couldn't help but stutter at the thought of Callion being happy about anything other than material things. Pitt would pause waiting for his response and hoping his nephew would accept. Regardless of his response the hulking Saiyan would step a few yards away before showing a sly grin, unable to hide his anticipation. He would then charge up his ki flaring a aura of grey then red around him once fully charged.
"But all that can wait, for now. As a Bonewood we will always be your family. But if you want my respect kid, you're gonna have to impress me. So go ahead! Give me your best shot and prove your mettle!" Pitt shouted challenging the younger man in typical Saiyan fashion. He knew he was strong, but Pitt had to see for himself. Who knows maybe being off planet makes a Saiyan grow soft. He took no defensive posture baring his chest with fists at his sides.

It was a bizarre feeling to say the least, as Kabe witnessed his long lost uncles and their shared excitement to see him again. He noticed that they had seemingly missed or ignored his question about how his father was, but Kabe could figure all that out on his own if he had to. Pitt had noted that he'd be stoked to see him, so that at least meant he was alive, which was good. But otherwise, it seemed things were in a bad way for the bonewood brothers. Kabe shrugged a little, having no real idea how bad 'dragged through the mud' was for them, and gave a small smile. "Well, at least we're together now. Who gives a shit if people don't like us? We're cooler than them anyway."
Pitt had also remarked that the whole planet didn't look like a broiling pool of acid and monsters, which made Kabe laugh. "I don't remember much, but I remember the place looking a little bit better than this... so maybe I will stick around. At least for a while." He didn't want to dwell on the thought of eventually leaving to be with his crew for longer than a moment, as he was too excited to see his family once again.
It seemed they were on the same page though, as Pitt challenged him and moved into a defensive stance. "Alright!" He shouted, flipping a few meters back and facing toward Pitt. Sliding his back foot around and low into a battle stance, he heaved a mighty breath that seemed to suck the air around them into his throat like a whirlwind. After a moment, she shouted as loud as he could and pounced through the air.
As he raced toward Pitt, he exhaled and let loose a torrent of energy that crackled through the air, fizzling like the acid around them.
Chuckling, Vocado leaped back and simply watched, taking a comfortable spot in the canopy. One of the thicker branches accommodated him well, giving the eldest Bonewood plenty of space, as well as a great vantage point on the fight. It'd be interesting to see how their long-lost blood would fare against the powerhouse that was Pitt. Without his Scouter, he couldn't quite gauge the strength of the boy, but he confidence betrayed the power he wielded.
This fight also played another part. Letting Vocado see the two of them fight would allow him to train his eye for combat, and point out any flaws in the battle and their fighting styles. Whatever the outcome, it'd show how far along they were in their training, and whether they were truly ready for the war that was yet to return.
Kabe's style was... Interesting. Pitt was a bonehead, but even he didn't use his mouth for combat that often. Being a space pirate makes one quite inventive, Vocado supposed. Maybe he'd steal that one for himself.
"Pitt! Can you do something like that yet?"
He doubted Pitt had put any practice into mouth attacks, but the idea amused him enough to accidentally distract his brother.
Pitt was happy the Bonewood reunion was truly kicking off now. His brother jumped to a good view point watching events unfold from a branch above the cesspool. Kabe jumped into action, eager to meet the challenge which Pitt was happy to see. He was grateful Vocado didn't pull the older brother card and take first dibs, this seemed like it was going to be good. Oddly air swirled around his nephew and into his lungs, off planet techniques must be different. After he had stored enough Kabe made a mad dash for Pitt, unleashing the built up oxygen in a roar of energy. It crackled through the air as if filled with electricity and bolted towards Pitt. The large Saiyan would take this hit head on to test if the bark matched the bite. He gave the younger Bonewood a free shot, it'd be his last though. He braced himself not wanting to get blindsided, his focus was broken however. His brother calling out that the beam was fired from Kabe's mouth, and questioning if Pitt could do the same.
"Of course not! I didn't even think a mouth could do th-" Tanky as Pitt was this energy wasn't just for show. It slammed into him with force cutting off his sentence leaving smoke lines behind as they rose from Pitts body. A burn mark adding itself to Pitt's Saiyan armor. "Dammit Cado, you broke my focus!" Pitt said angered, he decided to take his frustration out on Kabe. Bounding forward to meet him as they sprinted towards the center of battle.
"Let's see if you have a chance in close combat then!" He shouted right before they clashed. Pitt would start of the engagement by swinging his large arm in a jab at Kabe's chest. He wanted to make use of his reach advantage. He tried to stay on Kabe wanting to duke it out up close and personal for a while, taking shots and blocking if need be at high speeds.

Kabe found amusement as he soared through the air, watching Pitt get caught off guard by the brief exchange he shared with Vocado before having his wind knocked by the energy blast Kabe had sent along. Kabe had hoped to catch him off guard as he closed in, but as smoke streamed into the air his uncle bounded forward as if completely unbothered by the exchange.
They met in the air, and Kabe brought his studded vambrace up to meet the jab aimed at his chest. The force of the blow was impressive. Power-wise, Kabe was sure they were pretty evenly matched. But the sheer size of Pitt was something that made the difference, adding that little bit of extra oomph to the blow that knocked Kabe back a few inches despite a solid defense.
Recovering, he brought his leg forward to swing into a heavy kick to Pitt's left side, reaching his hand down his own throat at the same time and withdrawing from the transcendental dimensions of his gullet an enormous blade of black katchin. "Let's see how you handle Wildefang!" Kabe shouted, swinging around regardless of how his kick landed to bring his blade to bare against his opponent.
These guys were real powerhouses. Of course, he knew Pitt was plenty strong, but for Kabe to take a blow like that and keep coming? The Bonewood clan was something else. How they fell from grace, he’d never know.
”Keep it up, Kabe! You’ve got your mom’s durability!”
Suddenly, Kabe vomited out a sword.
”...And, apparently, her appetite...”
This was a new one. No pirates out there knew this trick. It must’ve been— no, it HAD to be a Kabe speciality. How then, did he learn something so odd? Could one even learn something like this? Maybe it was a type of magic, or a virus? Curses weren’t out of the question either, but then what was the drawback of being able to use yourself as a sword sheath?
”This is an easy one, Pitt! The kid’s probably got indigestion from a trick like that!”
Vocado leaned forward in his seat, eyes wide. In less than a few exchanges the fight had already become so engaging. Just what else did Kabe have in store? The eldest Bonewood let his mind race, and quickly came to the decision that perhaps it’d be better not to know what other things he could puke out on command.
Kabe rolled with the punches well, his ability to make decisions after something doesn't go to plan was a good sign. He'd make an excellent soldier if he joined the war. Pitt expected nothing of him other than this fight. The last thing the Saiyan would want for his nephew was to be dragged into his family's issues. Pitt was going to follow up after his blocked punch, but a heavy kick landed in his side. Making him bend away from it in pain. The force behind it was immense for someone shorter than Pitt, there were few Saiyans like Kabe and Vocado.
After delivering the blow Kabe pulled off another strange trick. He reached down his gullet and retrieved a wicked looking blade. He named it Wildefang, Pitt approved of the blade but not it's use. In Pitt's mind blades were for those too weak to use fists. Maybe his nephew would change his mind as he swung the sword towards him. The strikes were quick, but had strength behind them. Pitt barely side stepped the first swing and parried the next with his palm.
"You're more than I bargained for not having proper training Kabe. And I gotta say you've got some odd techniques. But a toothpick isn't gonna be enough for a real fight." Kabe's uncle said, before retaliating with his own heavy kick. He wasn't the fastest, but Pitt had more speed than someone his size should. He followed this up by trying to mimic his nephew's earlier attack. Letting out a scream infused with ki. It didn't take shape into a beam at all, instead just making a small wave of energy that caused the acid to wake. Pitt nodded and laughed at his brothers comments. "You're right, sis had a legendary appetite! She'd be proud of the kid for sure!" Pitt wasn't much older than Kabe, but he wasn't sure of the younger Saiyans age. In fact while he took the second to think about it, he rarely remembered his own.
