Konats, a planet whose prosperity was once held back by its constant infighting. Now a new frontier for commerce, innovation, and multiculturalism. Since he departed from Earth, all Araka could imagine was the disparity between the two planets. But upon his arrival, he's yet to find much difference.
The people range from friendly to plain rude, like most people on Earth. It wasn't the first time he'd ever seen a Konatsian, nor the first time he'd interacted with one. In fact, he recalled one of the Professor's students being of Konatsian descent. The student's name escaped him, but he could remember a few encounters with the student outside class.
Araka preferred traveling light, so his singular suitcase allowed him some wiggle room for souvenirs and the like. He needed to secure lodging for now, but he hadn't the slightest clue where to go. So like any tourist, he began asking around about lodging recommendations. Although most shrugged him off, there was one particular Konatsian woman that assisted him.
"You were looking for a place to crash," she inquired of the Earthling.
"Eh, yeah, actually. I probably should've done my homework beforehand." Araka replied, chuckling nervously, realizing he may have looked like an urchin bouncing from person to person. "First time traveling, eh? No sweat, I know a place. I'll even give you a lift free of charge," she replied, offering her services to the young man.
Initially, Araka was reserved, considering how she was a total stranger, but it wouldn't hurt to take up the offer. It wasn't as if he were totally defenseless. Although when assessing her strength, she wasn't even as strong as the Professor. So perhaps he really had nothing to worry about. "Yeah? I'd really appreciate the help," he responded as she led him outside the spaceport.
"Here, you can throw your things in the back," she offered, popping the cargo hatch of her speeder open. Araka replied by doing just as she suggested. Before joining her up front in the passenger seat. The vehicle bore many similarities to the Ronda MSX, a hovercar he'd been eyeing back on Earth for some time.
She started up the engine at the push of a button, causing the engine itself to power on. It was a hushed engine, but even the little sound it did emit was music to Araka's ears. The Konatsian pressed a few buttons on her radio, tuning to a station that played some very poppy style music.
"So what brings you to Konats, if you don't mind me asking," she asked curiously. "Well, there's a few answers to that, but in short, I'm just sightseeing," Araka answered with a bare-bones synopsis of his itinerary. They weaved in and out of traffic, whizzing through the city streets. "Oh man, where are my manners. The name's Tuleap, wish I'd introduced myself before." She giggled to herself as she shared her name.
"It's all good, no sweat. My name's Araka, a pleasure to meet ya." He said before they came to an abrupt stop at an intersection. WHAM! "The hell's going on!?" She exclaimed before her forehead smacked her steering wheel. She looked over to see Araka faceplanted into the dash.
There was a roadblock up ahead involving the local authorities. One of the responders approached Tuleep's vehicle giving her the rundown. "We're working on rerouting traffic out of this area right now. Just hang tight," he ordered, tapping the roof of her car. "Hey!" She stood up, shouting at the officer for his attention.
"I said hang tight," he sternly demanded. "The only thing hanging tight is those slacks. Don't touch my ride dammit!" Tuleep stood up in her seat and replied by insulting the officer. "Hey, watch it! Another wisecrack and I'll book you and your boyfriend's sorry asses," he snapped back at the woman.
He was a well-built Konatsian man who had the stature of a fighter more than an officer. Tuleep kept her mouth closed, flopping down into the driver's seat. "Useless cop," she muttered. Araka decided to intervene in the conflict, inquiring with the officer more passively. "Um, excuse me, sir, is there a reason for traffic to be rerouted."
Araka tried to sound as respectful as he could to simmer the guy down. "Well, there's some kind of conflict up ahead. A fella that looks like one of you Earthlings is causing some trouble up ahead. We're trying to avoid anyone getting in the mix or crossfire. According to reports, some folks have already intercepted the threat." He finally explained much more calmly.
"Now I'm gonna repeat this only once more. Hang tight, and we'll get you two moving soon." He simmered down after Tuleep followed his orders. Fortunately, it didn't escalate to her arrest, and the officer rejoined the rest of the troops. "Well, I guess we just sit here, yeah," he stated before rubbing his face. "I guess so. We may as well listen to some more tunes then since we'll be here awhile," she said as she flipped the radio to a new station.
