It had been months and months of radio silence, a trip to namek chasing a lead and all kinds of inquiries and mayhem trying to get a hold of anyone on his crew. But in the early hours of the morning, half asleep at the bar of the cantina he frequented and curled up with his adopted clone, he heard it.
BZZT. BZZT.
"...hwha?" Kabe had stirred in his sleep, lazily clicking the answering button as he slotted his scouter to his face. "Captain!" the garbled voice called, and after a few seconds of dawning realization, Kabe shot straight through every stage of waking up in a matter of miliseconds. "Idnee? Is that you?"
"Yes! We finally managed to track you down. Some guy called Callion put out some huuuuge bounty for you in that region of space- went far enough that even hiding out on Raiti while we patched up the ship we heard it." Kabe could barely contain the excitement, the rush of knowing his crew was okay, the dulled half-awake panic at the idea of his father setting another bounty on him... all of it was a lot, but he was brimming with joy. "It's so good to hear from you? How are you?"
Idnee seemed a little confused, as Kabe was normally a bit more brash and 'cool' about caring for his crew, but he seemed to disregard it over something more important. "Nevermind that. We're getting you off of that planet before things get any crazier. If anything I remember about plant before that horrible war tore it up is true, our best bet to pick you up and get out of dodge is Daikonda Spaceport. We'll be there around three in the afternoon planet-side."
"See you then, champ." Kabe replied, clicking a button to end the call and slinging the still sleeping Kay Bee over his shoulder as he set out to meet them there.
In the few hours Kabe had to kill as dawn rose and the day set in across the planet, he decided what his next move was. If Callion was going to set a bounty like that on him, he'd need access to something bigger than the forces of every greedy overconfident bounty hunter dotting the galaxy. Luckily for him, he'd managed to catch a broadcast and discovered that he might just have the best ally he could think of for a job like this - an emperor.
Ise, it seemed, had moved up in the world since they last met in this very spaceport. He pondered on their last conversation, realizing it might also be a good opportunity to look into his affliction as they'd discussed last time as he awaited his honored guest. He'd sent the only person he knew was still on plant that he could trust an invitation to join him on his trip to Arcose - his uncle, Vocado.
Yet as the monstrous ship-eating machine descended from the upper atmosphere to meet him at the dock, Vocado was still nowhere in sight. "Come on, unc. Don't keep me waiting..." He mumbled to himself, kicking another small crate across the space toward his clone in a weird game of catch-and-eat as they waited.
