To say this was the furthest he'd been pushed in a while was an annoying understatement. It wasn't often he had to actually try, and when he did, it was usually among friends. Fighting alone was his specialty, but now it was starting to feel a little less so. To be fair to himself, he was fighting a fire dude. Those were pretty rare.
The blast hit him square in the chest, though his potential careening was halted immediately by a thin black net that appeared behind him. Erebos bounded against it, groaning as the soft strings absorbed the momentum.
"Don't push it."
No quip this time. No clever joke or tint of sarcasm. Erebos was getting angry.
His hand came over his chest, the shadowy stick sinking into it. Thin strips of black ink twirled this way and that over the center of his chest, and try as they might to move further out, the previous, still-lit flames burned them away. His application of shadow as healing magics was amateur at best, but at the very least no lasting damage would come from Derry's newest swing.
"I thought we were having fun."
With a leap, Erebos rushed the president, a flurry of quick swipes headed his way. The charred armored gauntlets had shifted, turning into shadow-tipped claws that aimed to cut through whatever Derry had left and leave him reeling.

Though he was hoping that Erebos would spend just a bit more energy trying to stop whatever was heading right towards him, Derry wasn't going to complain about the demon getting hit right in the chest with an explosive mortar round. It seems like the dynamic between the two of them was slowly starting to shift, with Derry finally enjoying himself in the fight while the demon seems to be struggling quite a bit. He must've struck a nerve given how Erebos didn't even quip this time around, seeming to want to move right into serious business. All Derry could do was grin as the demon was slowly starting to recover from the injuries, those shadows he gathered earlier helping to mend his wounds. It only served as a reminder to Derry that he'd kill to be inside of a medical machine right now, or hell, even in one of Hazel's springs.
Erebos charges right at Derry while commenting about how he originally thought that the two of them were having fun. "Are you actually that oblivious to what's happening?" Derry begins wondering as Erebos came at him with a quick succession of rapid strikes, forcing him on the defensive once more. "For the longest time you've been the only one having fun. You've costed me far too much tonight, and the only thing that'll fix this is seeing your burning body lying on the ground." Derry would allow Erebos to swipe at the gauntlets a few more times, but switches things up by the time all of the armor around his forearms have pretty much been removed.
It was his turn to be on the offensive as he aims to sweep the demon right off of his legs and quickly elbow him down into the ground while he was still falling. "Oh, but don't you worry now. I'm finally starting to enjoy myself, seeing you suffer the consequences of your actions. It makes for some great entertainment."

Erebos landed plenty of blows, but they seemed to do little. Annoying, but understandable. He was just killing time. Strategizing as the flames licked his body. A sneer found its way onto his face, but it shifted into a wince when his legs gave out from under him. Derry's elbow crashed into his chest, but rather than bring him to the ground, it took him THROUGH it.
A shadowy puddle sucked Erebos in, giving him momentary reprieve. Sitting inside the darkness was the coward's way out, though. He'd only stick in here for these precious few moments.
Unlike last time, Erebos didn't swing out with an insane, gut-rending slash. Instead, he simply appeared. He walked out from behind a shattered pillar, as if he'd always been standing there, and cracked his knuckles. The flames that'd plagued him for so many minutes had finally been extinguished, the last of which was pinched away by Erebos' thumb and forefinger.
"Just get your taxpayers to fix it." A quip. Finally. This one was curt and pointed, though. Not as playful as the others. "You're not as fun when you think you're winning."
For now, Erebos watched. He leaned on his pillar, smoke wafting off his body as he waited for Derry's next move.

Though both the sweep and elbow were successful in landing against his target, Derry didn't exactly expect Erebos to simply phase right through the floor to safety. The demon must be getting quite tired at this point given how seemingly sluggish he's been. That, or he really has grown that much since their previous fight. Back then it felt like he either couldn't hit the guy or Erebos just let him hit the demon. Now it was no longer the case, and Erebos must treat him as a serious opponent. Perhaps that's not why he's being his jovial self at the moment, since he actually has to try to win this time. Little does he know that victory won't be in his grasp anytime soon.
Erebos reappears from a nearby pillar, his demeanor now more calm than before as he manages to finally get rid of the flames from his earlier attack. "Bit of a nasty trick there, ain't it?" Derry comments in regards to the lingering flames, "A bit of a specialty of mine. If you like, I can show you them again." Instead, Derry would rush towards the demon once more, except he wasn't going in with his fist at the ready, instead opting to begin charging up yet another fireball. Right when he's a mere few feet away from his target, Derry extends his palm out and fires the projectile right at Erebos, or should he say projectiles?
Indeed, the single fireball immediately split into eight smaller fireballs the moment the lone projectile left the palm of his hand, each one heading straight for Erebos. "Try some Buckshot!" Derry shouts, his flaming hair firing up a bit as he could hear the sirens getting closer. Now what could be arriving soon that could help him. Some SWAT would be appreciated right about now.

"You're pretty cocky for a guy with a hole in his chest. I've not even begun to show you the extent of my magical prowess."
His shadows were returning to him. Slowly but surely, his power flowed back. Even so, his physical form was having trouble keeping up. There was a bruise welling up above his eye, and blood trickled from a few cuts he'd earned. The scorch marks made it look like he'd just been in a bombed building.
"Sure. Give it a try."
Derry rushed him, but the Oni made no move to evade. Instead, he leaned back further, sinking into the pillar as it shattered to bits from the shotgun blast. From the opposite end of the battleground, the Shadowmancer clapped his hands. Slow and taunting.
"Wow. So cool."
Despite his pain, he was trying to regain momentum. He was genuinely unimpressed, but overdoing it would help sell that he was finally 'starting to take this serious'. Maybe it'd work. Derry seemed the type to fall for it.
Erebos traced his fingers on the wall, making little shadow puppets. One was Derry, who was bleeding black ooze. The other, Erebos, was pumping his fist in the air. it turned to the real Derry, and stuck his tongue out at him. "Care to try again? Or should I cut another hole in you and go home?"

As Derry prepares for his next attack, Erebos comments about how he hasn't even shown the full extent of his power just yet, making the president a bit curious as to what exactly he has planned. "Oh, I'm not too sure whether or not I should doubt that. I hope you happen to have some more tricks, or else this will only end miserably for you." Derry begins his approach while Erebos just continues leaning against the pillar, seemingly just standing around in the open waiting for an attack to come right towards him. That wasn't going to stop the crime boss, however, as he lets the volley loose and checks to see what sort of damage he managed to deal.
A slow clap from behind alerted Derry to the fact that Erebos managed to completely evade his attack, the demon now seemingly bored with the president's attacks. He makes some shadow puppets mocking Derry once more before demanding that he try again. What little enjoyment Derry was getting out of this fight was now being sucked away by the bastard once more, his grin disappearing slowly as he turns his body to face the demon completely. "Ah, now that it something to consider alright: Going home," Derry replies back, standing completely still and biding his time to regain more energy. Next time, he'll make sure Erebos gets pummeled.
"Unfortunately for you going home is not an option, whatever your home may be. No, you've still made quite a mess, and taxpayers aren't going to cut it. You should've listened to Amara when you had the chance, Erebos. Now look at what you've done to yourself."

This waiting thing was really annoying! Derry was way too content to just sit around. Erebos was better at counter-attacking than going on all-out assaults. There had to be some way to end this fight.
He could feel it in his bones. This was bound to end soon. Whether by amputation or escape, someone was about to lose. Erebos knew he wasn't going to stick around much longer. All he needed was an escape route. Finding one wouldn't be hard, and if Derry was gone then he'd pretty easily be able to just waltz out of here without trouble.
"Really? You gonna cross dimensions to kick my ass? That's rich." Erebos pushed forward off the wall, rolling his shoulders as he stepped forward. "I'm a wanderer. Trouble follows me, but I'm always a step ahead. You think you and your thirty-zeni haircut have more sway than my father?"
V'rim'thrak. Invoking the concept of the name was sickening. He hadn't thought about him in forever and a day, but evading the watchful eye of his father had been rather easy. Admittedly, Erebos doubted his father actually cared enough to seek him out. He'd been exiled for such an embarrassing act, after all.
"I really don't think you understand how little this affects me. You're trying to puff yourself up; I get it. But you really need to just admit that this is a lose-lose."
Erebos' hand slid across the wall as he walked along it, scraping clean the shade and collecting it. The fullness of it swirled along his arm, covering it completely. He'd use it for something, surely...

So the kid lives inside of other dimensions, eh? Where exactly? Does he actually live in hell, or that damned Demon Realm? Maybe he speaks the truth about being a wanderer. Regardless of what was true or false, Erebos would at the very least be out of Derry's way in any of those cases. Perhaps it wasn't the worst idea to send him packing by beating him down badly enough, though he doubts that anything like wanted posters or massive bounties would keep him away from him for long. No, he seems to be the kind to come crawling back whenever possible just to get another taste of what he got all those months ago, and soon it will be the death of him, whether or not he believes that is the case.
"Well whoever your father is, he better be a damn powerful man in comparison to me. I'm one of humanity's strongest warriors, and I'm their leader. You think a man like him would have more sway than me?" Erebos is actually attempting to pose this whole situation as a lose-lose for Derry, regardless of whether or not he himself wins. "The only think you stand to gain here is a short lived victory, and every second that passes the prospect continues to slip from your grasp. You don't even realize how much shit you've gotten yourself into, but I suppose you don't need to worry right now. After all, you're just a wanderer. Consequences for your actions be damned, eh?"
Derry was pretty certain that things would go bad for Erebos. In all honesty, though, it seemed pretty unlikely. Consequences that should've come for him ages ago never did, and most of his actions usually gained him friends rather than enemies. Even so, maybe he'd take the words to heart. This was a pretty brash action, even for Erebos. Earth was more important than he thought.
"Yep." The shadow he'd been collecting traveled up his shoulder, wrapping around his chest and back down the other arm. It looked like he wore a shaded chestplate. "Trust me. This won't be a problem."
This was it. The final moments. One of them would go down in flames.
"Let's make this a good final exchange. Okay?" He snapped his fingers, and his blade, Stickler, finally appeared. The faux-steel shimmered in the moonlight... Wait. Was the moon broken? Weird. He'd have to check that out later.
"Ignore all the taunting and payback. Forget the vendetta for three seconds. As one fighter to another..."
Erebos took a few practice swings, and the blade sang. Darkness followed its motions like dancing flames. This was Erebos taking things seriously. Well and truly.
"Show me your best and I'll show you mine."

Once more, Erebos doesn't seem to care too much about what will happen once this fight is over, and in a strange way Derry couldn't help but admire that unwillingness to back down. Had that will been attached to practically anybody else, he'd certainly congratulate them for standing so tall in the midst of having their livelihood basically in shambles once it's all over. Still, Derry must take care of this problem right here and now, and it seems like Erebos has the same idea. The demon demands that the two of them exchange one last blow with each other, each fighter pouring everything into one last push, words that he would surely regret.
"Oh, I like that proposition," Derry mutters has he begins charging up two fireballs in the palms of his hands while holding his arms out side to side, "But trust me: When this is all over, you'll be nothing but a pile of ash just like that bastard Kowlin from before. Heh, it's funny, isn't it? You only just met the guy a few minutes ago, and it seems like you just might meet him once again. Be sure to tell him that I said hi when you get down to hell." At that moment, Derry slams the two fireballs together right in front of him, the president yelling from the top of his lungs as the collision results in a massive torrent of pink flames all heading right towards Erebos. He wanted Derry's best? He'll get Derry's best alright!

Power pulsed in the president’s palms, and the Demon reciprocated. The shadows coalesced into each hand. Darkness in one hand, and a dull gray in the other. Black Ki erupted from his body, pushing his Ki to the absolute limit yet again.
The fireballs, massive and imposing, were stopped briefly by the shield Erebos had summoned. It shattered near-instantly, but the brief pause in momentum was just enough. Flames licked at his body, and he wanted to shriek in immense pain. Instead, he held his tongue. He needed that air that would escape from his lungs to focus.
”Nice try.”
His eyes narrowed, and he darted across the expanse. With a quick motion, his sword unsheathed from its non-existent scabbard, and struck outward at the earthling. It was a single, precise cut. Aiming to sever Derry’s arm at the elbow. He didn’t quite care which one it was, but his angle dictated that it was the man’s right by sheer chance alone.
Erebos slid to a stop a good few feet away, huffing slowly and methodically as the pain washed over him. He didn’t dare make a motion. Not until he heard the president say something, do something— anything. Any reaction at all.
Until then, he waited.

What Derry had originally expected was that Erebos would counter the president's attack with his very own super powerful attack, a clash between the two to see which one would truly stand tall at the end. He didn't expect Erebos to just go in for the win, however.
After somehow making it out of his attack alive, the demon charges right at Derry, and with little energy in his reserves to do anything about it, he holds his arm out in front of him, looking to block what little he could using the remaining pieces of his right gauntlet. Unfortunately for Derry, the demon really was holding out on him just to leave a lasting impression on him.
A single slice was all it took to take Derry's right arm clean off, leaving the president with a stump, bleeding profusely. He couldn't scream out in pain as the air in his lungs almost immediately vacated when the blade was swung. All Derry could do was stand there flabbergasted by what just happened to him. The sirens of the SWAT team had finally arrived, though it was too little too late as Derry stood completely still, his legs shaking and about to give out at any moment. He glances back up at Erebos, the adrenaline in his veins blurring his vision as he mutters, "Heh... So much for... Entering the hero business..." before collapsing to the ground.
At that instance, the backs of the two SWAT vans opened right up, and squad of heavily armored SWAT team members all pointed their weapons right at Erebos, giving the demon almost no time to explain as they immediately opened fire on him, though if the bullets from earlier were anything to go by, these weapons would do little to affect Erebos as well. All they could do was continue firing off in vain in the hopes of keeping him away from the president and potentially save his life once they could recover him.

A spray of blood. The wheezing of a dying man. His final taunts as he collapsed.
This combination of acts finally allowed Erebos to move, but not in the way he wanted. He didn’t turn on his heel, grinning wickedly to lick the blood from his blade. No. Instead he faltered. His stance faltered and he fell to his knees, hands clutching the scorched grass with the remaining ounces of Ki he had left.
Derry had done a number on him. His whole body was shaking, and it was hard to focus. The sound of sirens brought his focus back, though just barely.
”You did good, mister president.” He looked over his shoulder at the crumpled corpse, just as the SWAT team swung their van doors open. ”Round three is gonna be bombastic. A real show-stopper.”
Bullets flew, but Erebos was already gone. The shape they fired on was his shadow, which fizzled away from the rain of gunfire. As the soldiers inspected their surroundings, trying to find the source of the attack, a pair of medics rushed to the president’s aid, trying to keep him stable.
Erebos watched from the inside of a shadow, waiting to see if he’d make it. The answer was unclear, and Erebos was awfully tired, so he decided to move on. He slinked further into the shadows, darting from wall to wall, and vanished.
He’d arrive at a local hotel a few minutes later, disguised in the garb of a vacationer as he watched the news unfold among a crowd of horrified bystanders huddled around a giant television in the lobby.
