It had been a long time since Nizin had left the Western Wilds. How many years had it been? At least two. That first year that they arrived had been a time spent wandering the globe, searching for a place that each one of them liked. She had ended up being the last one to find a place. Of course, in the years after that she had drifted apart from what could be called 'her' crew. One captain, and two crew members? That was barely a team, let alone a crew...not that she was angry. Deep down, she had known that their little found family would drift apart eventually. She just hadn't expected it to happen before any of them had even so much as entered their twenties.
It was odd, how a new place could serve as so many reminders of what you considered 'home'. But that was what she was seeing as she walked through the downtown of Papaya Island's city. Two mechanics arguing over an engine? All too easy a reminder of her own days arguing with Itra over some piece or another of that rust bucket they had called their ship. Someone trying to get between two men that were clearly ready to brawl? That was all too familiar of a situation for her.
Most days she tried to pretend that she didn't miss the old days, her old friends, and the way they all flew by the seat of their pants. But as she punched in the numbers on a vending machine for a bottle of pineapple juice, she couldn't help but catch herself reminiscing, which was slowly but surely turning into worrying. "Come on, Izzi. They're fine..the ones who headed into the most danger are all stronger than you were back then. Hell, probably stronger than you are even now.." She muttered to herself, her brow furrowing as she watched the machine dispense her bottle of juice. This wasn't the first time she found herself stuck in the past.
She had never been the type to not care about people. It was why she had been so good at keeping everyone from running off at the first sign of a friend's trouble before. Of course, that also meant that she had episodes like this, where everything she saw reminded her of a friend she hadn't seen in years, or something that she used to do back in the day. She shook her head a bit as she knelt down, her hand pushing past the door at the bottom of the machine to pull out the bottle she had paid for.
As she rose to her feet, she cracked the top open and continued her walk down the sandy sidewalk. For better or for worse, she was in a new part of her life. Perhaps more importantly: She was on vacation, for Kami's sake! Leave the past in the past, and enjoy the things in the now! The weather couldn't have been more beautiful. Sure, there was still some hustle and bustle here and there, but we're operating on Island Time now. It was time for her to let herself unwind a bit.
