It had been a long, long walk from where Rez had crash-landed the night before, having woken up the next morning finding he didn't have it in him to fly. It was probably for the best, anyway, given that it'd make him a lot more obvious. Assuming that the people he had been flying away from were still looking for him, it was better to try and be as inconspicuous as possible. For that reason, when he had the good fortune to stumble on a lonesome house a few hours outside of Taolo Village, he had not hesitated to snatch a change of clothes off the line when the owners weren't paying attention. He felt guilty about stealing, but he needed something to wear other than the tattered jumpsuit he had been sporting when he made his big escape. Now dressed in loose-fitting, lightly colored clothes suitable for the desert, he would at least blend in a bit better once he found his way to civilization.
Of course, clothing was really the least of his needs right now. He hadn't had a drink of water or a bite of food since yesterday, part of the reason he was trudging through the desert on foot rather than flying. It really was a miracle no thieves had seen fit to jump him, but whether by good luck or divine intervention, he did manage to drag himself to Taola village at last. People on the street immediately took notice of the ragged-looking youth, though no one really knew what to do. The people of Taola were famously hospitable, but a wild-eyed kid who looked like he'd been through hell did give people pause. Everyone seemed to assume someone else would say something, and thus no one immediately stepped forward. It was just as well, Rez was in no mood to come up with an explanation for how he had come to wander into their town, when he didn't even know.
So instead he made a beeline for the public canal, desperate to relieve his parched throat. As soon as he came to the water's edge he fell to his knees, dipping his hands in the water and taking a long drink. He stayed there for a while, quenching his thirst while trying to decide his next move... though, given that he was a borderline amnesiac who didn't fully know where in the world he was, that was a bit like traveling the ocean with no compass at the moment.
