'Hehehe...I've got to stop underestimating earthlings, especially dear Rez. He's just as strong as me, smarter than he looks, and knows how to handle himself! Of course, lots of people fit those descriptions, but I wasn't even sure if this kid could survive on his own a few minutes ago! Yet here he is, eager to learn and quick to adapt. How many people could wakeup, findout that they've been kidnapped, mutated and left to die, and move on like Rez is doing? Well, 'move on' is a big word-I'm sure he'll never quite forget this-but he's still functional. Even with my precariously short stay in the mortal realm, if someone had told me then that I'd forgotten nearly everything and was simply the machinations of selfish scientists...!'
"Kid, I've got to say-you're VERY special. I've existed for at least three hundred years by myself, and I spent most of that watching people die. The idea that I would ever even care about a scenario like this-about a person like you-after so long-well, it's preposterous. And if I'm being honest, quite embarrassing. Not that I give a damn about the other's demons, but if they were to ever find out, I'd become a laughing stock for at least a millennia!" rambled a very annoyed-looking Apollyus, who was scowling at the mere thought of his own race. "I might've gone off track there, but the point is..."
"I've got your back, Rez!" he announced with immense gusto! "Sure, I might not always be there when it's convenient, but I'll there when it counts." 'And I mean that, too,' he thought, 'seeing as I can move between planets!' "Not the strongest demon around, but I could definitely teach you some advanced combat so that you'll stick it to your 'creators' one day. And I can't ever replace your original family, but..."
'I'll be there?' he thought cruelly to himself as his voice trailed off. 'Nonsense. Rez'll cut ties the first chance he gets, I'm not a caretaker, I'm a demon! If he could properly sense my ki he'd be running from just how twisted it is...but he can, can't he? Yes, he looked shocked when my power level rose-he knows what I am, or at least, that I aren't normal, and he's still here...'
"...I'll be something, that's for sure. What that 'thing' is exactly is for you to decide, my dear. But god knows I'll try." Putting away the fact that he had unfortunately used the word 'god', Apollyus thought back to the first time he was on earth and tried to recall what those people did to show friendship or affection (he DEFINITELY wasn't going to replicate the demon realm's standards). Most of them seemed weird ('What the hell is love and why is it said so much?'), but there was this one thing...
Apollyus gave Rez a hug.
"Unfortunately, Rez, I've got things to do! Like, for instance, leave before the locals finally decide to try and hang me! In the meantime, though, get around earth a little, have fun, do...human things! Because you are human, you know! Regardless of whatever's been done to you! And hey, just to make sure that you'll be fine, here's some cash!" Apollyus materialized some (thankfully accurate) money from thin air, with the bills flying into Rez's pocket (if he had any). It was about a thousand dollars, though Apollyus really had no idea "That should help! And, uh..."
"Nope, that's all I've got to say." With that unceremonious end, Apollyus immediately took to the skies before his head came up with anything else to stay ('I'll end up never leaving the kid at this rate!') and he flew off into the great unknown, swearing to himself that he'd see Rez again.
