People were getting wild now. It wasn’t even semi-finals yet, and already there were more people than their were seats! Feverish fans watched from the stands, but their ambient noise died down as The Announcer hopped onto the stage
He slid to a stop in the center of the ring, and howled into the microphone.
”Goood morning ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to yet another dizzying match of the Tenkaichi Budokai!”
The crowd erupted, as if they hadn’t heard his greeting before. Confetti came from somewhere in the crowd, and a beach ball someone brought bounced from spectator to spectator.
”This is sure to be a match for the history books folks! We’ve got the fearsome fighter Fend!” He let the crowd explode again, before continuing. ”Her first match was pulse-pounding, so I’m sure this one will be no different!”
Wheeling around, he faced the other side of the ring. ”And our other competitior today is the deadly Erbia! Though their last match ended in a time-out, I’m convinced they’ll go the distance this time around!”
The Announcer stepped back a bit, and gripped the microphone tight. ”Remember you two: no maiming, flying or outside interference. Ringout, knockout or forfeit is the way to win. Have fun out there and give us a good show!”
The Top 16 Rounds of the Tenkaichi Budokai begin! This fight will end on May 5th at the time of this thread's creation if someone hasn't lost by then!

Fend readjusted her mask as she sat waiting in the fighters' lobby. It had taken a few days for her to stitch back together her cloak and fix her mask, but the masked swordfighter's outfit was thankfully repaired in time for her next match in the Budokai. It was going to be hard for her opponent to top the fight Fend had against Pracross, but the Shinjin was ready to square up, regardless of her opponent.
Erbia and Fend had briefly met once before, having teamed up to slap around a wannabe "god of destruction," and following that Fend told Erbia the basics of what to expect when sensing a Shinjin's ki in exchange for her aid... Fend was incredibly grateful she'd taken the time to learn how to control and alter her ki signature in Otherworld, lest she be recognized as one of her kin.
Still, it was time to see how well the Heran fared against a "god" here in this fight, even if Fend's opponent wasn't aware of that truth. Fend hopped up to the stage as the Announcer called her name, doing a flip mid-air and landing gracefully, letting her cloak flow in the wind as she held her head high. She seemed to have a few fans in the crowd- Fend's face flushed slightly as she caught eye of a few wearing plastic, bootleg replicas of her mask.
Holding her sword tightly, Fend crouched into a low, defensive stance, should her opponent enter the stage as well. "I heard 'ya were pissed your last round hit the timer," She hummed, smirking beneath her mask. "Wanna bet I can beat you before we're halfway out of time?" Last round, Fend had the first move in the fight- it was only fair this time to allow Erbia the first strike...
Fend's Utility Technique, Ki Masquerade is in effect. This hides her Ki from feeling like that of a Shinjin! No KP action taken. KP: 6/6 (MAX) MP: 1/6 (+1 Passive) PL: 25,000 Damage: 0% / 250% Total Word Count: 303
It was time for the next match of the tournament. From what he remembered of the fight against that would be goddess in the park a while back, Fend loved to use some kind of sword based style for fighting. Dealing with a blade was going to be interesting since the rules stated that they couldn't maim each other. That throws out his usual tactic when dealing with weapon users, that being breaking their arms, wrists or whatever appendage they tended to wield their weapon of choice with.
The Heran figured she was probably some kind of Konatsian, since she seemed to know a bit about magic and swords... But he had been wrong before. After all, Fend did know how to go around sensing divine energy... maybe she was a Shinjin like Phakk? If that was the case... Erbia would have to keep an especially eager eye out for the terrain of the tournament arena as well as her bladework.
But then again, nothing from the fight they'd had prior seemed to indicate that kind of magical ability at her disposal so maybe they weren't?. She could teleport, summon that sword of hers back to her hand, use some kind of wire string attack similar to his own, and she could be damned fast. That mask of hers would make it hard to read her attacks beyond body language... Not to mention she was a helluva lot stronger than he was right now. And that was before either of them had used their full power.
In summary, this was probably going to be the toughest fight the Heran mercenary pirate was going to have faced so far. He smirked at the thought. This was going to be fun, assuming the damned ref didn't time them out again! As the announcer called out his name, Erbia strode out onto the stage, quirking an eyebrow at the sight of more than a few copy cat masks of Fends among the crowd. He chuckled and shrugged, especially at her remark regarding beating him before they were halfway out of time.
"Well, I'll admit you've got a bit more power than I do Fend." he mused, before raising a hand into the air and then bringing it down to point towards his opponent. "But that just makes this fight all the more interesting for me! So let's have ourselves some fun!" the Heran declared, and it seemed the crowd agreed with him on that front judging by the cheering coming from the stadium.
With no more further adieu he bolted straight towards her, as he feinted with slamming a fist right into her mask, but in reality he aimed to try and strike a blow into her gut! Erbia would then try to follow it up with a hammer-style blow to her head!
Erbia charges in!
"Medium Attack Technique || Star Rusher
First the target gets kicked/punched into the air, before then being kicked/punched back down towards the ground. Hard.
Erbia was clearly eager to fight regardless of the power gap between the Shinjin and the Heran. It was no wonder why, with how irked he was with his last match running out of time. "Power levels are a 'buncha bologna," Fend corrected. Even though she had the edge in terms of power last round, Pracross had nearly came out on top plenty of times. "But that doesn't mean I'm gonna be going easy on you, y'know."
Fend spun Palibur in her hands, using the rapid spin to create a wide, makeshift shield to parry Erbia's attempt at a punch to her gut- the Heran's fists would only meet cutting metal instead of flesh. Though some of the bright ki around Palibur had faded from the brief impact, Fend quickly used the remaining energy in the blade to attempt to swing it right down onto the Heran's side, trying to stagger her opponent or get him to back away. If there was one valuable lesson Fend learned from the preliminaries, it was that zoning and control over the arena was just as important as dealing damage- and she was ready to claim that precious center-stage for herself.
"I imagine 'ya have more tricks up your sleeve you didn't get to show off last fight," Fend hummed in thought. Though she'd skimmed through all of the other fighters' matches while waiting for her fight, Erbia definitely seemed to be holding back last fight, and never got to unleash his true power. "Once we're done with the warmups, I'll be sure to show you some of my stuff Pracross didn't get to see, too." Foreshadowing was important- Fend wanted to build some suspense in the crowd too. This was both a fight and a show, after all.
Fend uses Papercutter for 10,000 PL to clash against Star Rusher! Papercutter wins the clash! Its power is halved, bleeding through with 5,000 PL remaining. KP: 4/6 (-2) MP: 3/6 (+1 Passive, +1 Tech) PL: 25,000 Damage: 0% / 250% Total Word Count: 598 (+295)
Seems that his opponent figured power levels were nonsense, and that was something he could partially agree with. The numerical value portion of it all was definitely a bunch of bologna as Fend had put it, whatever bologna was, but scale however... Well, her swords parrying of his technique and even getting in some damage of its own into his flesh was a decent sign regarding the difference in their states of strength.
He backed off from her swing as she had intended, glancing down towards his bloodied hand. Going for a feint clearly had not worked, and she was insinuating that she had some tricks up her sleeve as well that she hadn't had a chance to use against the Saiyan she'd fought before. The Heran wasn't certain if that was a bluff or not, especially since both of them were playing to the crowd after all... But it was possible. Magic was a weird and strange piece of shit that he didn't quite understand fully, except for one aspect of it.
It drained its users energies just as much as regular fighting techniques did. Erbia flexed his fingers for a moment, the bleeding halting for the time being as the mercenary pirate considered his options. From what he recalled, his masked opponent was quick, had magic, and favoured fighting with her sword... Although as she had shown in the fight against Pracross, she could fight just as well without it, so disarming her wasn't a solution to this scenario.
If anything, she'd just use it to probably make a two-pronged attack against him... Erbia rubbed the back of his head as he ran the scenario a few more times in his head. He'd have to try and get control of the field somehow, reduce her advantage in speed... Which meant just one thing to do. The Heran mercenary pirate took his bloodied hand and drove it down into the arena floor in a knife kind of formation.
Fend would probably be looking for some sort of quake or destructive attack... Except Erbia was taking a page from his last opponents book. From out of the ground around Fend would erupt a series of energy strings that would try to wrap around her and bind her! The Heran would pull his hand free of the ground to reveal the strings of energy coming from his finger tips, and also try to yank her off her feet and into the ground of the arena floor.
"I ain't afraid to borrow some tricks if it seems to be a good one." Erbia said with a smirk and a wink, just imagining the Majin girl Kaza watching this fight and probably fuming at him stealing her move.
Erbia takes the 5000 PL damage from the bleed through (33.49859305909152 % of 14,926 PL)
Erbia uses Psycho Thread!
Light Attack Technique || Psycho Thread
The user points his hand at his opponent and traps them with thin strings of purple energy. Handy for when you want to prevent a target from escaping.
The masked Shinjin narrowed her eyes- Erbia seemed to really be thinking about something. Fend herself wasn't putting too much strategic thinking into their warmup phase of the fight, and fully expected some sort of wide-range attack when Erbia dug her hands into the arena tiles. She was taken off-guard by the sudden strands of ki lurching out from the tiles- though she tried to duck under them, Fend hissed in pain as the Psycho Threads wrapped around her torso.
It sure stung, but not enough to sweep Fend off her feet. She dug her heels into the arena as Erbia tried to pull Fend off her feet, gripping Palibur tightly in her hands. While she'd be able to cut herself free with her sword, it was a bit hard to do that with her arms pinned to her sides "Alright, good move," Fend shrugged... Though soon after, she'd manage to toss Palibur up and grab the blade in her teeth, managing to cut herself free from the strings.
Not a moment later, similar bright white ki strands could be seen wrapping around Palibur like a spool of thread, before they lashed out towards Erbia. They wouldn't hinder his movement at all, instead favoring to bind around each of his individual limbs to constrict and burn away at his body- if he failed to evade them, prying the magical strings off after impact would be tricky. "But mine's better."
Fend is hit by Pscyho Threads and takes +12% damage. Fend uses Cross Stitch for 12,500 PL! If it deals at least 20% damage, its Bleed Variant will deal +10% damage for two turns following the post of impact. KP: 0/6 (-4) MP: 5/6 (+1 Passive, +1 Tech) PL: 25,000 Damage: 12% / 250% (+12) Total Word Count: 837 (+239)
Whilst Fend may consider this the warm up phase of the fight, which of course might very well be true, Erbia on the other hand considered the whole thing a valid source of combat training and practice. How often do you get a chance to practice a technique against a living target that can hit back, and not run the risk of death or a serious fuck up?
Plus either way, the Heran mercenary was here to entertain himself. He had to admit there was a certain satisfaction in managing to disable the swords-woman with a simple technique, and judging from some woots from the crowd the feeling was apparently mutual.
Erbia immediately tried to rush her so that he could capitalise on this opportunity before she could free herself. It was at this moment though that the masked woman tried to return the favour with her own energy strings based attack from her sword, that she was holding in her teeth! This had some serious kick to it, far exceeding his own version...
There was no way he was going to be able to beat it power for power, and at this close a distance there was no chance to evade the damned thing...
All he could do though was trust in his Heran physiology to see him through the worst of it! As the silver threads began to wrap themselves around his limbs, the mercenary could feel the magic in them burning into his body. He did give a confused look towards the audience when some of them gave similar woots as to when his own strings had bound Fend in place. "I'm starting to wonder why some of these people are here." he mused with a chuckle.
Whilst the masked womans attack didn't bind him or restrict his movements, he'd just go for a regular series of punches aimed towards the woman, choosing to save his strength for later in the fight. She wanted to see his tricks after all, seemed only fair that he give her the full tour as it were!
Erbia uses Durability Trait to reduce Cross Stitch PL damage by 40%! Cross Thread new PL: 7500 Erbia takes 50.24788958863727 ~ 50% PL damage! Bleed variant will kick in
84/250 KP: 3/6 (+2 for no technique) MP: 6/6 (+1 for damage taken, +1 for post)
Fend's attack struck without much trouble, though Erbia was surprisingly tanky. Despite taking it face-first, the Heran was still standing tall and was just as ready to brawl as before- though the lingering strings of ki would keep the pressure on for the next minute or so, and Fend hoped it'd buy her enough time to plan out her next attack. All things considered, that whole exchange left her feeling very tired.
Erbia rushed forwards again with some fairly standard punches- a fighter's equivalent to twiddling one's thumbs. Fend was tired enough to be taken off-guard and smacked by the first few blows, but quickly regained her footing and began to parry the blows with her blade, taking a few steps back as her opponent put the pressure on.
Glancing back behind her to the ominous edge of the ring, Fend grit her teeth and readjusted her stance, ducking under one of Erbia's punches. The masked swordfighter aimed to plant her foot right into Erbia's gut to send him staggering back, hopefully earning herself some much-needed breathing room to prepare for whatever was coming next.
"Is that the best 'ya got?" Fend teased, smiling beneath her mask. Of course that wasn't the best Erbia had, but banter and taunts were a good way to goad out more from an opponent if her last fight was anything to judge. "C'mon, when are we gonna show the big guns?"
No KP action taken. +2 KP regained! KP: 2/6 (+2) MP: 6/6 (+1 Passive) PL: 25,000 Damage: 12% / 250% Total Word Count: 1,074 (+237)
Whilst the Heran may have pushed the masked sword wielder to the edge of the arena, it seemed that she had enough energy in her to mount a counter offensive! What he found interesting was that despite his fists colliding with the flat of her sword each time she sought to parry his attacks, Erbia could find not a trace of a crack or chip in the blade in spite of how many attacks had collided with the weapon. There didn't even appear to be a mild scratch in the thing...
Distracted as he was by this curiosity of metallurgy, he failed to spot the kick to his gut, and took a few steps back as he sought to recover himself from the attack and catch his breath. Of course here came the taunts as par for the course it seems for this tournament. The Heran mercenary pirate chuckled as he caught his breath, rolling his shoulders and cracked his neck from side to side with audible clicks.
"Oh you want the big guns huh?" Erbia inquired, chuckling as his aura around him began to flex and flare, almost like a heat mirage. "Then try these on for size!" The Heran slowly began to let out a roar, the veins in his arms began to bulge as he pumped energy into his muscles, increasing his physical power and strength. His arms, legs and chest muscles began to slowly expand to almost twice their original sizes. Of course this was all for the dramatics for the crowds sake.
This muscle enhancement technique could be done practically instantly for himself in a normal situation, but for this event... why not be dramatic about it? Plus it would buy him time to gather his strength to really show off what he could do!
Triggered MAX Power! No more MP gain, but due to THIRST FOR BATTLE Trait, he doesn't lose any MP either.
Fend felt Erbia's ki grow even more volatile, bursting with raw strength as his muscles bulked up, letting him tower over the comparably scrawny swordfighter. "Oh heck--" Fend staggered back, sent skidding back a few inches by the force of his shout as he'd powered up. This didn't seem to be a conventional transformation, as his ki felt mostly the same in strength, but there definitely was something ominously powerful about it now...
Regardless, the only way to test it out was with yet another attack, of course! Fend gripped Palibur tight as ki pulsed from the worn blade yet again. Fend's eyes flashed a pale white as she channeled her own magic into its tip, forming a rippling aura of energy around it. "Alright, sure, ya got some muscles now-- let's see if you're any good at using them!" Fend quipped, before swinging Palibur down. A crescent arc of ki surged forwards, leaving a thin crack in the arena in its wake as it barreled towards its target.
Fend followed suit regardless of her attack's results. Though winded from how much she had been using her energy, the Shinjin still had more than enough stamina to try and catch Erbia off-guard and deliver a sweeping kick at his legs to knock him over.
Fend uses Papercutter, spends 2 MP to boost its power by +10%, and sends 12,500 PL heading towards Erbia! KP: 0/6 (-2) MP: 4/6 (-2 Power Boost) PL: 25,000 Damage: 12% / 250% Total Word Count: 1,288 (+214)
The Heran mercenary pirate grinned as his masked opponent was sent back just from the sheer force of his powering up through increasing his muscle mass. He watched as she followed it up by sending out a wave of energy straight towards him from the tip of her sword, some more of that magic now that he was starting to recognise the differences.
Not that it mattered in the long run or the short term though... Because now he could finally cut loose! "Kaza!" Erbia bellowed, one fist striking against his chest, just over where the heart would be. "This is what that ref prevented coming for you!" he declared, tilting his head ever so slightly to look straight into one of the cameras, almost certain that the blue Majin girl was watching this match. The Heran returned his focus to the oncoming wave of magical energy, as well as Fend following it up from behind.
His fist which had struck against his chest soon erupted in an almost dark fire like aura that reached up to his forearm. "Behold Fend... MY BURNING SOUL FOR BATTLE!" Erbia roared, hurling his energy encased fist straight into the incoming attack, grinning like a madman as it burst through the attack and then tried to have it collide straight into the masked swords woman!
Erbia FINALLY gets to use his Burning Soul Sparking!!!
Heavy Sparking Attack Technique || Burning Soul
Erbia slams his fist onto his chest before encasing it in a dark red glowing energy that resembles flames. He then tries to punch his opponent with this energy covered fist.

MAX Burning Soul 17,911 VS Papercutter 12,500 PL = MAX Burning Soul victory! 5,411 PL Remaining!
If it successfully connects, Fend will take an additional 15% of their PL as damage due to Bleed+ Variant
KP: 0/6 MP: 0/6 (MAX Power prevented MP gain, and will drop next post and prevent MP gain next post as well) 84/250
Fend did her best to prepare herself for whatever Erbia was preparing. The Heran sure seemed to be building up to something, and Fend was starting to get flashbacks to when Pracross had prepared his ultimate attack in their prior fight- was this another trump card? She'd managed to fire her own attack, but the Heran barreled right towards it with not a shred of hesitation, dispersing the arc of energy with a mighty punch.
The energy in that attack was immense when put beside the comparably pitiful attacks Erbia had fired before, though Fend could sense the power of it waver and decrease as he used it to push through her prior slice. Though it wasn't much, the power he'd sacrificed from that was just enough for Fend to be able to defend.
The worn blade of Palibur gave a faint, magical pulse, and Fend felt her own ki increase. Unable to dodge or defend in time properly due to the energy she'd expended before, Fend feebly tried to grasp at Erbia's fist as it lodged itself into her stomach. Though she grimaced in pain as it burnt right through her cloak... Her grip would tighten, should she get a hold of the Heran's fist.
"Dang, you're good." Fend spoke with a smirk. Though Erbia's attack certainly left a mark, Fend's increase in power prevented it from doing any lasting damage. "Buuuut we're running a bit short on time now, y'see..." Time flew when they were having fun, and now the clock was counting down the final seconds of the match. Regardless of the victor, Erbia was certainly going on her 'to rematch' list after this. With one firm grapple and tug, should Fend still have a good hold on her foe, she'd try to spin around to toss him right off the stage.
A brief correction, as both Papercutter and Burning Soul are both Attack Techniques, the victor cannot be reduced below 50% of its initial PL, so that means Burning Soul is oncoming towards Fend with an increased 8,956 PL! Also, Cross Stitch's earlier Bleed effect should have afflicted a total of +20% Damage onto Erbia over the past two posts! Fend uses a +x1 Transformation Boost for 4 MP to increase her PL to 50,000 (x2)! Burning Soul hits for +18% damage. As 20% damage minimum is required for Bleed/Bleed+ to take effect, it will not affect Fend. No KP action taken. +2 KP regained! KP: 0/6 (+2) MP: 0/6 (-4 Transformation Boost) PL: 25,000 Damage: 12% / 250% Total Word Count: 1,593 (+305)
Should he have just tried to tank that blast again so he could have his Burning Soul at its full power? Probably aye... but it wouldn't have looked nearly as good for the crowd, or felt half as enjoyable for Erbia. There was just something about taking your strength, and using it to decimate an opponents supposedly best technique. And besides, there was that little tournament rule about no maiming the opponent... If his MAX Burning Soul had been able to connect with full power, well who knows?
But as it was, this was pretty damned satisfying all the same. Which was pretty good since he was absolutely exhausted after all that, his muscles returning to their normal size and strength even as Fend complimented him and took hold of his fist. He chuckled when she brought up the time issue. "Yeah... I reaaaally hate that damned clock." he said, noting that she had increased her strength to nearly double... Tricky little thing! That's why his attack hadn't felt like it did as much to her as it should have done...
A part of him wanted to go to his full power in response to her generating this pseudo transformation of her own... But, there was that damned clock! As he got thrown towards the stages edge, the Heran mercenary decided to put on one last defiant showing for the sake of his pride if nothing else! He ignited the energy in his hands and began to produce a controlled burst, akin to a ships engine thrusters that served to slow down the throws momentum.
Just as it seemed however that he would survive being ringed out, the magical strings that Fend had wrapped around his limbs earlier in the fight decided to flare up! The sudden surge in pain caused him to lose control over the energy bursts for but a moment... but that moment was all that was needed to have one foot carry on the momentum, slip off the arena stage floor and land outside of it onto the ground below! There was a pregnant pause in the atmosphere before the crowd began to burst into cheers and commiserations, especially those wearing the replica masks for Fend who were cheering the loudest.
Erbia looked down at his treacherous foot before pulling it up and back into the arena, rubbed the back of his head and then made his way on over towards Fend. As he approached the masked warrior, he offered her an arm. "Not a bad fight. Next time I hope there's no ring out or time out rules." he said with a chuckle. "You better not lose the next round. My ego feels a little better if I can say I lost to the champion." the Heran mercenary smirked.
One final tug from the pesky strands of ki, and a well-timed kick was all it took to seal the deal. Fend balanced precariously on the ledge of the arena, quickly readjusting her balance as Erbia topped off the side. A successful ring out, and thus another win in her pocket. Fend was still catching her breath when the crowd began to cheer again for the two.
Still, despite the loss, Erbia was a good sport about it. "Oh yeah, we obviously have to rematch sometime." At this point that was just her policy with each and every fighter she crossed in this tournament- a rematch without the constraints the tournament forced was yet another way to meet the mortals of this world and advance her own skills.
As for next round...
Another ominous buzz and beep caught her attention. Looming above on the screen mounted behind the audience was the tournament brackets. Right beside Fend's name in the oncoming quarter-finals was one she'd been anxious about matching with. Lord Azoth Icepeak, one of the strongest and most mysterious warriors in the tourney.
Erbia wished her luck, and even went as far as to proclaim that she should make it to the finals. "Trust me, I ain't going out without one hell of a fight. I'll try..." She stood tall and proclaimed, before glancing back to the brackets, a wave of anxiety briefly flooding over her. It still felt like the tournament had only just begun. Would the next fight be her last, or were the finals soon in sight...?
