The early morning sun crested the horizon as the day began. Lines formed before the doors even opened, and people streamed into the tournament grounds for yet another day of exciting tournament matches! Once the rowdy crowds found their seats, a mighty gong was rung, and The Announcer stepped out onto the stage.
”Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the very first match of the Top Sixteen! Fighters from across the Galaxy are fighting to prove they’re the best, and this first match will be no different!”
Cheers came in waves from the crowd. Their bloodlust was at an all-time high— in a fun-loving way, of course!
”Today’s first match pits the magical Ward against the newest hero of Earth— Captain Sweetheart!”
A few members of the crowd pulled out big signs with Captain Sweetheart’s visage on it. Her performance in the tournament was gaining her fans already! Ward had similar treatment, with a few people wearing bootleg wigs with his hairstyle.
”Alright, you two know the rules by now. No maiming, flying or outside interference. Ringout, knockout or forfeit is the way to win! Have fun, and give these people a show!”
The Top 16 Rounds of the Tenkaichi Budokai begin! This fight will end on May 5th at the time of this thread's creation if someone hasn't lost by then!

Captain Sweetheart still couldn't get over the fact that she won her first round! Half of her...or a little more than that was expecting to lose. She didn't really come to this tournament to win, but rather to learn how to fight better, and get her Superhero name out there...which appears to be working right now! As the aspiring hero looked up to where the audience was, she could see a lot of them holding up signs with her helmeted visage!
"Aww, shucks..." droid muttered to herself, looking a little flustered as she rubbed the back of her head. She did manage to get herself together and started to wave to the audience. Sweetheart was more of an introvert, especially when she's in her secret identity...but the aspiring hero couldn't help but feel good having people actually cheer her on. But she wasn't only here for the audience, she was here for a fight!
After she finished waving, Captain Sweetheart turned her attention to her opponent, assuming that he was already here. He certainly looks a lot more different than her previous opponent, Russ. He did not look like he was of this world which made things a little more interesting to her. Whoever he is, the guy must've done an amazing job in his last match too since he gained quite a few followers, all wearing wigs to match his hair. Sweetheart couldn't help but giggle a little at that, but she needed to focus!
Just like with Russ, Sweetheart attempted to walk up to this Ward person and gently held her hand out for him to shake it, but unlike before, she had a bit more confidence, shown with her smile smile. "Let's both try our best, okay?" she said with a light nod.
With all of this going on, Sweetheart forgot to sense the man's ki with her built-in hud...so she wasn't aware of how outmatched she truly is this time!
Unlike the previous round, Ward hadn't stressed over who his next opponent was, learning quickly that preparation meant very little once the fighting actually started. He would have had more time to prepare than his previous bought when he only learned who he was facing hours before the fight started, but despite winning his first round, his confidence was shaky. The way he had won was neither flashy nor impressive, and in most situations he would have been fine with that, but in a setting such as this, now with a third round technically starting, he was seeing that showmanship meant as much as a win.
"Captain Sweetheart. I see."
Ward had refused to even look at the name of his opponent, though he knew it would have to be one of two people, but he was familiar with neither. It wasn't until he heard the name announced with his own that he was sure who he would be seeing as he began to walk out onto the fighting stage. Looking out at the mass of bodies in the audience, he was surprised to find those cheering for him, slowing his walking pace with a confused look he couldn't hide. Derry had gotten into his head, even if it wasn't until days after their fight, having him believe their bout was boring, terrible to watch, likely to even draw boos, but it seemed all of that was simply fluff and banter for his own sake and nothing more.
His opponent was already waving to the crowd by the time he made it onto the stage across from her, but he saved his showboating, giving only a single wave towards the audience, and a low bow. The second bow was towards the announcer, and the third and longest to Captain Sweetheart. It was held a bit longer than he meant to as he tried feeling her energy, getting a feel for who or what he was up against, but as was becoming a frustrating trend, he couldn't feel anything from her. She looked very lighthearted and even kind, but as he knew from Phakk, that meant very little in the true strength of an opponent.
"I will do my best."
There was no attempt to hide his energy, but if he wanted to know her strength he was going to have to take a risk and test her head on. The moment the fight was started he charged forward, feigning an attack to her mid-section to test her reflexes, but stopping short of connecting. In his hand was a bouquet of bright red flowers, unnatural for anything on Earth, with a strong but pleasant aroma. How she would react and how quickly would likely determine how the rest of the fight would go from this point forth.

Sweetheart tilted her head slightly as Ward bowed at her. This was the first time anyone has ever done that to her so she wasn't sure how to react at first. She thought about it for a little, and just chalked this up as maybe something his species did, a form of tradition before battle. So, Sweetheart bowed in return...a little bit awkwardly though, but she still tried all the same.
From what the aspiring hero could tell so far, Ward seems to be a man of a few words. Considering she's a little shy herself, Sweetheart didn't mind at all. She instead nodded, preparing to fight!
Before the droid could try anything or use her built-in hud, her opponent was already charging forward at speeds far harder to keep up with than Russ'! "W-woah!" The only thing Sweetheart could think of was trying to guard her mid-section which Ward appeared to be aiming for! She squinted her eyes shut underneath her dark visor, preparing to take a hit she won't soon forget!
But then the droid's opponent stopped...
It took Sweetheart a few seconds to finally open her eyes, raising her head up a bit to see...a bouquet of red flowers!?
"I-I...Oh..." Sweetheart stared at the flowers, able to smell their wonderful aroma. "U-uh..." She then looked up at the pointy-eared creature, the visible part of her face flushed...which was interesting considering she has no blood.
"I-I...wh-what's this for!?" Sweetheart finally backed up a bit, not sure how to process this. "Th-this is sweet and all...bu-but we're suppose to...umm..fight..." she claimed before quickly waving her hands in front of the guy. "N-Not that I don't l-like flowers o-or anything!! I-It's just...We just m-met....and...uhhh..." The droid was having a hard time keeping eye contact with her foe, her eyes instead focusing on her own feet as she twiddled her index fingers. Her built-in hud was even having a hard time trying to read the situation...
The reaction he got was altogether not like he had expected. He was accustomed to fighters throwing a punch back, using some sort of flashy attack, or being the aggressors themselves. His opponent looked to take his hit head on, which either meant she was untrained or confident in her sturdiness to take a punch. He couldn't read her power, but it didn't mean she couldn't read his, which meant he was at a possible disadvantage to say the least.
If this was a different fight, perhaps one where he was more inclined to knock out or take out an opponent he might have taken advantage of the situation, but her genuine reaction amused him more than anything. His face was as close to neutral as a facial expression could be described despite the fight atmosphere and his actions, but he nearly cracked a smile as the woman stepped back from him. Her reactions were not that far from what he would have expected from his Shinjin friend, flustered, blushing, it was putting him at an even further disadvantage.
"Apologies, I cannot ascertain your true strength. Your reactions however are fascinating."
The flowers were tossed into the air, exploding like fireworks high into the sky, creating the words "Captain Sweetheart vs Ward", shimmering and dissipating a moment later. Both hands raised slowly towards her, palms outward and moving back and forth as a shadow would have fallen over the both of them.
"Once again, I must apologize."
Behind her a large wall had formed out of the stage, covering the entire side her back was to and extending around ten foot. Bringing his left arm back, Ward gave a loud grunt and brought his palm forward. Unlike before there was no pause to his attack, aiming to hit her in the midsection with full force. The attack would either be stopped like he imagined with how she was willing to take the blow earlier, or she would be pushed back. The wall was there in either case just to assure there were no ring outs from that side of the arena from his attack or an unfortunate circumstance of himself being sent in the same direction.

Sweetheart was finally able to muster up the courage to look up at Ward the moment he started to speak."Ascertain...?" she muttered to herself as she tilted her head slightly. Right, others couldn't seem to read her power for some reason. Sweetheart has come across some folks like that, and at first, she assumed it was because of her "cybernetic attachments" but it seems even some fully organic people had this anti-ki thing or whatever it was.
"U-uh..." She wasn't sure what to say about her not so little...reaction, but fortunately, she didn't have to say anything as she watched those flowers get flung into the air, bursting into fireworks with the name of both fighters! No doubt the audience would like what they have just witnessed...Sweetheart certainly did. "W-woooaaahhh!" Just like that, her flustered expression turned to that of pure awe.
"Are you a magici-" The droid paused as she looked down at Ward who now had his hands facing her for some reason. The droid blinked a few times before her built-in hud went off, beeping in her head as shadows started to form. Sweetheart watched as the shadows formed into a giant wall behind her, trying to figure out what her opponent's play was.
Again, her built-in hud went off, alerting Sweetheart of the incoming attack! She turned her head and gasped as she saw Ward's fist coming at her! Her built-in hud informed her to dodge, but the droid could barely move out of the way in time, and felt the fist ram into her midsection, causing her to slam back first into the wall as she started to cough! "Ack!" The droid managed to stay on her feet, part of it due to that wall as she held a hand against her stomach. A few sparks went off around various parts of her body, but that only lasted a few seconds before her systems restabilized.
"Y-You're fast...and strong..." she said, muttering the last part.
That is when her built-in hud finally scanned the man, revealing just how strong he is! "Really strong..." There was a brief stunned look on her face. She took a deep breath before balling her fists up. She couldn't show weakness...even with the odds against her. Sweetheart's hud was going to work laying out a starting strategy for her which she followed.
The droid rushed at Ward this time, raising a hand up as a few ki blasts fired out of a hole that opened up in her palm! If she managed to get close enough to the guy, Sweetheart would duck, appearing as if she were going in for a leg sweep...but then smirk lightly before attempting to quickly raise a palm towards Ward's chin, trying to fire another ki blast at point-blank!
Muttering to himself he watched the fighter smack the wall, thankful he put it there. It was unlikely it felt great as it was very solid, but it kept the fight from ending, which was likely neither were keen on so quickly. Ward watched her carefully get her bearings, waving a hand to dissipate the wall. Did he distract her after all, or perhaps she was slower than he was by enough to cause issues for her.
There was a hope that if he had caused her damage that perhaps some type of ability would drop, allowing him a glimpse at her power, but it seemed there was no luck. Thankfully she was undeterred, and he could test her further. It seemed she was done letting him go on the offensive; perfect.
Her attacks were still lacking confidence, but now he could start fighting and hope to pull something out of her. Each of her blasts were batted away as he held his ground, keeping narrowed eyes fixed on her movements. For a moment he tensed as she looked to be going for an attack on his legs, but as she shifted, he did the same, moving back and slide-stepping to her left, batting down her ki blast so it wouldn't go wildly flying into the crowd.
"Much better. Never let your opponent play their game or fight their fight. Make them fight yours. Put more confidence in your punches."
Pulling his arm back he leaned back in and drove his right elbow towards her left shoulder, trying to put distance between them more than cause any real damage. Sliding into a closed fighting stance, he watched and nodded to her, motioning to come at him again.

One by one all of Sweetheart's ki blasts were batted away as if they were nothing! This frustrated the droid a little, but she wasn't planning on giving up. She ran at her opponent, attempting to fake him out before trying to fire a ki blast at him at point-blank...but like the other attacks, Ward effortlessly took care of that.
Sweetheart watched in near disbelief as her ki attack was batted down into the ground! Here she thought that she was finally getting the hang of firing those things...
Despite this, her opponent shared a few...inspiring words, causing the droid to look up at him as she was caught a little off guard by those words...but mostly his little elbow attack! Sweetheart gritted her teeth as she slid back a bit, attempting to keep herself from falling on her butt in the process.
[Warning: Powerful Threat Detected]
[Chance of Success: 2%]
Two of the things that Sweetheart could read on her built-in hud among other things. She looked at the information then back to Ward, appearing to be mostly focusing on him and his words over her own systems. "Make them fight my fight...?" she muttered to herself before balling up one of her fists. She was getting that education she so desperately wanted or at least a part of it.
With a nod, Sweetheart took a deep breath before lunging at Ward once more, attempting to strike the guy with a flurry of punches, mostly aimed for his chest or face!
Whether any of those strikes landed or not, Sweetheart would jump backward before lunging forward once again, this time trying to mimic Ward's first 'strike' with those....flowers. But instead of flowers...Sweetheart's incoming fist retracted, forming into a rotary gun which she attempted to fire at point-blank, aiming for Ward's mid-section.
"I-I did it!" she exclaimed, referring to just being able to actually activate this move on her for the first time....Whether it actually lands is another story.
The speed difference was the most noticeable different thus far in the fight, but after taking two strikes and standing fine Ward had assumed she wasn't so weak that a well placed strike would completely take her out. Her ki blast strength however was low comparatively, and it was difficult to believe she was holding back this much, but he knew better than to judge an opponent this early into a fight, even if that was the point. She was still coming at him, but he knew he needed to push her to see her limits before seeing how much he could push back.
He gave a single head nod at her questioning, choosing to let his words linger over saying any more for now. This was the time she needed to figure out how she was going to fight the rest of this round, and only hoped he had said something worth listening to. Again he gestured towards her, not in a taunting way, but simply telling her to make the first move, watching her stances, how she tensed up before moving, more so the little details over the macro decisions.
Once again she came forward, choosing to stay with more of a straight martial arts style of punching, letting the strikes to his chest connect, but blocking the ones towards his face just in case more power was coming than expected. Each punch was absorbed and mentally checked, taking a few steps back to give her full room to swing until she stopped, planting his feet once more. If nothing else she seemed a quick learner, using a similar technique as his own, but much less benign.
His palm shot up in front of the gun, taking a step back and spreading his fingers wide apart. As the weapon fired his fist gripped tight as a shield appeared between him and the weapon. As it started firing, Ward stepped back in, but didn't simply stop closer, bull rushing forward, slamming the entire weight of his body and the shield directly into Captain Sweetheart.

Each punch that landed on Ward's chest didn't appear to do anything, almost as if he were made of steel! Ironic considering Sweetheart is literally made of steel. The strikes she attempted to land on his face were blocked with ease, but still, the aspiring hero tried her best. There had to be some sort of opening that she wasn't seeing. This thinking, and what her opponent said before is what led the droid into attempting to take the pointy-eared guy off guard the same way he did to her, except with the use of an actual attack!
There was a hint of confidence in Sweetheart's little smile as her attack fired, being the first time she was able to actually activate it...on purpose. What she wasn't expecting was the shield that her opponent formed which caught the droid off guard...but had another effect on her built-in hud.
The hud scanned and highlighted the shield...just as Ward rammed into Sweetheart, knocking her onto the ground! "Ngh..." The droid's body sparked a bit while she was back first on the ground, her head facing the sky. The hud was glitching out a bit, but it was also processing information both about the shield and the current strength of Sweetheart's opponent.

The sparks around Sweetheart grew a bit and as this happened, she slowly got up on one knee, her face now looking towards the ground. Her demeanor has changed completely, becoming cold and silent...while her power has risen fivefold!
The droid quickly rose her head up, and immediately rushed at Ward at speeds that now rivaled her opponent! She went to the guy's side, and jumped, going for a spin kick aimed for the side of his face in an attempt to send him flying! She didn't stop there however. Again, the "WAR Possessed" Sweetheart was aiming to copy Ward, but took it a bit further.
Just like what her opponent did before, Sweetheart rose a palm forward and used Magic Materialization to summon a similar-looking shield...but instead of rushing Ward with it, she threw it at the guy almost like a frisbee as she once again went for the head!

Even though Ward couldn't feel the energy coming from Captain Sweetheart, he could sense the energy from her attack as it collided with his own. It was still hard to gain too much information from it, but as he stopped and hit back it was starting to paint a more clear picture. By mortal standards she was clearly by no means weak, but given this was a battle it was a matter of comparative strength, not relative strength.
There was no further pushing of the advantage even as she took a moment to gather her thoughts, composure, and get back to her feet, taking a step back to where he had started. The shield was still there, but the energy transmitted through it had dissipated the moment it hit, leaving it as a standard shield and nothing more. The way his opponent was acting seemed as if someone had flipped a switch, or as if he had hit her and triggered something.
His first thought was worrying about the sparks, assuming there was something in her clothing and armor that was broken and could cause issues, not realizing she was an Android. Not being able to feel her energy rising even now, it was all a strange change, but Ward's thought was that perhaps she was taking the fight more seriously and looking to put more pressure on him. What he didn't expect however was the speed in which she moved from one knee to rushing towards him.
Something was off, and whatever changed had done so in more ways than he could have realized, but his contemplation was cut short by a attack he was lucky to have a shield for. A hard thump to the shield barely raised in time caught it to jar loose from his grip and spin so far as to slide of the stage, sending him stumbling back with a wide-eyed surprise. This is what he wanted from his previous fight, and his stoic look couldn't hide the grin forming at the corners of his mouth.
Whatever had changed in her was exactly what he wanted, and her kick seemed to awaken something as much as his attack did in her. The reserved warrior was gone, and in his place an excited looking Shinjin, wide-eyed and a smile covering the majority of his face. He began to bounce on his feet, relaxing and gripping his fists in excitement, waiting to see what was coming next. He thought to himself that if she was coming at him, he wasn't going to be surprised a second time.
Much like the first assumption, he was wrong. For a brief moment he wondered if the shield hadn't flown off quite like he had sworn it had, seeing it now in her hands. In another surprisingly quick movement, it was tossed, and given the short distance between them, his hands didn't go up fast enough to catch it, bat it away, or keep from getting hit with it.
His head whipped to the side as the shield collided with a sickening thud, sending him reeling to the side and lowering his head. A few seconds passed before he began to stand up straight, turning and facing her once again with a bloody smile. The shield had hit hard enough to cause him to bite his tongue and leave a red mark that would no doubt turn into a bruise quickly. The grin he sported earlier grew wider, showing his now partially blood-painted teeth.
Both hands shot out to his side, the grin seeming stuck in place and staring a hole in Captain Sweetheart. After a moment both shields, one from the stage and the other that had slid off flew to his hands as if magnetized, and a loud stomp was followed by a sprint forward. Ward pushed the shields together and lowered his head behind them, charging shield first with a bull rush aimed at her.

"W.A.R." Possessed Sweetheart appears to be having better luck with Ward. Her first attack disarmed her foe while her copied magic shield managed to hit its mark! Despite that, Sweetheart didn't react to it once. There was no cheering, no questioning if she really pulled it off, none of that. She just stood there, staring down at her injured foe.
Ward's seemingly increased enthusiasm and footwork were met with Sweetheart's expressionless demeanor. Without saying a word, She started to walk towards the man, attempting to slowly circle around him, but she stopped the moment Ward stretched his arms out, her built-in hud highlighting his arms, then the shields that came right to his hands! Sweetheart's foe was now rushing at her, but she stood her ground until Ward got close enough to which she ducked and attempted an actual leg sweep this time, seeing that his head was currently protected.
If she was able to execute that, Sweetheart would slide to the side and attempt to drive one of her knees into Ward's stomach before he could potentially fall over from her first attack! Sweetheart would then just stand there again, seemingly like a lifeless statue, but she...or rather W.A.R. was still very aware....and currently cooking something up as her hidden eyes started to glow red...
[Laser Strike: Charging]

Ward found his charge was most assuredly effective...at sending him running forward in a straight line. What was less effective was the impact, trajectory, and potentially even the speed he used. Not only did he not make contact with his opponent, but it seemed their relative strength now to one another gave her a chance to react, unlike the initial moments of the fight.
The trip sent him falling to one knee, saved only by the bottom of the shield hitting the ground as he did. With both shields in front of his face he hadn't seen the sweep coming, and the loud thud against the shield was the only thing that signaled the attack he was lucky to have unintentionally avoided all the same. If the initial crack of pain across his face and triggered something, his knee cracking the ground turned it off just as quickly, shaking his head trying to get rid of whatever fog had been covering his mind.
His head turned to meet her gaze, but he couldn't see her eyes clearly, though he could sense something was rising in her all the same. Getting to his feet, Ward tossed the shields towards her and jumped backwards, wincing for a moment as the impact of his knee taking all his weight falling still hadn't quite gone away. The shield she had tossed was still moving towards her face, but the one he had created dissipated a few feet away, though an equal distance between Ward and Captain Sweetheart a large mirror about eight foot in height and six across sprung up from the ground. Ward was behind it clearly, but whatever he was doing was out of her vision for the moment.

[Good Effect On Target]
Just as "W.A.R." Sweetheart thought, Ward rushing forward with his head covered left him open for an attack! The droid went in for a successful leg sweep, but the bashing sound of her knee against the man's shield showed that her follow-up attack wasn't a complete success, but it didn't seem to phase the machine-like hero. Instead of trying to follow up with another attack, Sweetheart just stood there once more, looking down at Ward as energy continued to charge in her eyes.
Sweetheart's expressionless gaze met with Ward's as hints of sparks continued to dance around the droid's body. Then suddenly, one of those shields, the one she had formed was being flung the droid's way! Sweetheart quickly rose an arm up and deflected the shield with it, causing her robotic body to twitch a bit on impact. The damages Sweetheart received before W.A.R. took over were still there, and even though she cannot feel pain right now, those damages are still having an effect on her. But she wasn't the only one hurting...
Sweetheart's built-in hud caught a glimpse of Ward wincing, highlighting around the injured leg, causing the droid to ominously tilt her head which glitched out for a second.
Sweetheart was about to rush in to take advantage of that injury, but the moment she rose a fist, a giant mirror appeared in between the both of them, causing the droid to make an impact with that instead, causing it to crack up a little! With this new obstacle in the way, Sweetheart lowered her fist and bounced back. She was now looking up at the mirror, scanning it with her hud....but then she lowered her head, taking notice of her own reaction.
"Wh-" She glitched out a bit once more, her original personality bleeding through a bit at the sight of her reflection. It caused her hud to glitch out as well, showing some errors as she took another step back, placing her hands on the sides of her helmeted head as if she were experiencing some headache!
"Nggh....zzt.. Sweetheart was gritting her teeth as she crouched down, having some sort of inner struggle.
But even as this happened....her laser attack continued to charge.

It seemed that once again he could feel an energy coming from Captain Sweetheart, but it was unusual as it felt like it was from her but not a part of her as if disjointed. The same feeling was noticed in prior fights with those he had trouble sensing the energy from, finding he could sense the energy of attacks or outward displays of energy and ki. Either she was powering up in a way he couldn't pinpoint given her ability to hide her energy, or she was charging an attack that wasn't apparent nor immediately visible.
Something was off, and not just the energy or the attacks, but the longer the fight continued the more odd his opponent was acting. She began showing signs of a faulty machine more than a fighter. Ward wasn't sure what to make of her or her actions and reactions, but his two-way mirror showed her despite hiding him behind it. In an instant Captain Sweetheart's fist met his mirror, and even though she wasn't aware, it thankfully hadn't shattered so quickly, but as she moved back it was now far more difficult to see her through the spiderweb-cracked mirror.
Ward's head tilted as this fight had taken an odd turn, and part of him worried if something was seriously wrong with her. Sure he wanted to win, but he had no intentions of seriously injuring her, and now he couldn't stop thinking if he had somehow. Her entire demeanor shifted and if this was some sort of trick, it was most assuredly working, throwing him off, unsure how to proceed. His instinct was to charge an attack, but if this was a ploy he could be walking into a trap, but if she was in fact charging some sort of attack he couldn't simply stand and watch. Unfortunately standing at the ready was the best plan he could muster in the moment, moving his hands to shift the pieces of broken mirror back into place and hoping his plan would work.
