Jackie was not exactly hiding the fact her people were isolationists at the least. Whether that meant distrusting others just outside the ingroup or not was super clear. She really had to think about it at the moment. As far as she could recall she didn't really know how to hunt. She just used what she knew to do what she could. Maybe showing him would be fine? Not like Earthlings haven't seen weird and bizarre powers before.
"I got hungry. I threatened campers when I was starving. I wasn't exactly taught to hunt, just to survive. So I sucked. Noone figured their families would just be wiped out in an instance, so it was never a concern. Knowing our ways helps. Heck, not many things fared well when you chuck a fireball at them."
She held a palm up, extended just in front of her a moment. Without so much a thought to the action, small embers seem to trail from the air and eventually collide to form a self-contained bulb of fire. Hovering and controlled entirely in her palm. There's a tiny gleam of red in her eyes as she watches her own creation.
"We were family. And expected to stick close. Noone left our community for anything, and all we needed we could provide ourselves. The idea of trusting those who came upon us was usually at the masters' discretion."
It wouldn't take long for this little flame to heat the room up. She wouldn't keep it up long after noticing this, letting it die off harmlessly. Jackie's hand lowered back into her lap after that. She wondered now if one of the masters had made a mistake. Or if it was their closed-off nature that actually leads to someone taking advantage of them.
"I really didn't get taught any of that child protection stuff until I got put up and adopted. Was lucky enough to be chosen and not forced into an available home. I remember trying to fit into my new life was rough."
She laughed at herself. There were actually a few funny things she could include here, but she didn't want to ramble.
"The common tongue has some weird rules to it. It's not too dissimilar but I would describe the arrangement... very direct. But I think I know common better than my native language now."
Maybe a bit sad too. Her martial arts wasn't the only thing threatened to be wiped away and erased from history. Her culture was also a dead one. Only chronicled by her experiences.
