K4 was volunteering at the local clinic ever since the resident roboticist passed away. Today the clinic's psychologist called in sick, requesting someone to fill in for this morning's consultation. K4 stepped up to the plate, but not without first forging the due credentials. Unlike his diploma on Psychology from the First University of Yogurt, his desire to help people was very much genuine.
His test subject was one Jackie Jeans, a mechanic suffering from anxiety. A dangerous combination, but one the cyborg felt apt to tackle after rereading "Psychoanalytic Theory Applied to Modern Machines". He understood that the unaugmented organic brain was a black box, that to change it radically entire chunks would have to be removed (and perhaps replaced with mechanical equivalents). This was not, however, how the cyborg wished to proceed. His actually accredited colleagues acted more as guides, steering the troubled mind away from the undue ills of thinking, but that took multiple sessions to have an impact. The best that could be achieved in this first and only session was... homework.
He had a plan.
Space was at a premium in K4's workshop/care room. Dull gray cupboards reaching for the ceiling lined the walls, catalogued in a strange system that optimized the cyborg's workflow, the white tiled floor was obsessively kept pearly against the oil, blood and whatever fluids the metal patients let spill. Usually for furniture he borrowed as each case required, and for Ms. Jeans he requested the least worn desk and chairs available, as well as the divan without which a psychologist was but a nagging acquaintance. The result was a positively claustrophobic space, kept lively by a potted cactus K4 bought while checking up on his bookie.
With nothing else to do, K4 waited. And because he hated waiting, he wondered if there was more active volunteer work somewhere else. Maybe he should get a hobby.
