Haupien sat down in the tavern, examining his new gear. After some time in the outpost, he had decided to invest in some new equipment in preparation for the war. From a somewhat run down (but sitll reliable) armory, he had bought some nifty armor reinforcement material and a scouter. While the scouter's purpose was obvious, he had something rather different done with the tough material. He had paid for the flexible but durable padding to be woven into his cape, adding some extra protection to his backside.
He pulled out the dark blue scouter, fidgeting with the buttons while he figured out how it worked. It offered an assortment of various functions, with different modes for identifying and keeping track of nearby power levels, as well as extra features such as communication. While he was thinking of it, he pulled out the note from Cheri, inputting her scouter number.
He put the device on his head, clicking the button to turn on the default mode. He scanned the various residents in the tavern, the power levels being much higher than your typical citizen but not notable. He pressed another button, and was now viewing some sort of radar in the corner of the scouter. In the center of it was his own power level, an even five thousand, and in the distance an identical power level was approaching. Mayze perhaps?
He motioned at a waiter, tossing him a few zeni as they approached. He came back with a beat up deck of electronic cards, putting them on the table. Nodding at the waiter in thanks, he pulled out the miniature tablets, configuring them for Poker. Their screens shifted, and he put them back in a pile.
Now he waited, leaning back in his chair. It had been some days since he had arrived at the Outpost, and after meeting a few potential employers, he had paid a bartender to get into touch with Mayze for him. He had scheduled for the two to meet here, so that they could figure out their plan. While there was still no telling when the war would start back up, he'd prefer to figure out their allegiances now so they could do some off the books work in the meantime.
