"Nervous? No, I'm not nervous. Why would I be nervous?" Taori stated rather stubbornly, his arms crossed and his head held high. "No, I said I'm nervous," Alpinia quickly replied as she shifted the pillows on the couch just slightly enough to make them more symmetrical looking. As she stood up, she continued, "I've never actually gotten to meet any of your old war buddies before. Most of them are either still off fighting, or, uh, died." Taori shrugged. He didn't think it was too big of a deal to have anyone over. He'd been to Hell and back with these guys - they weren't really going to care if his house was in tip-top shape or not.

Nonetheless, he supposed it would make for an... Interesting reunion. He was sure he'd told Vocado and Pitt about Alpinia when they were still all together in the Crusher Corps, but they certainly hadn't ever met her before. What would they think? He was half certain they'd dislike the fact that he'd settled down while others will still off fighting, or they'd be glad to see him happy. Either way, he'd managed to reach out to them and had invited the pair for dinner. It was good to hear that both of them were still alive, that much was for certain. And, maybe the fact that the war had quieted down a bit meant that they could settle down, too.

"Okay, I think we're... Good?" Alpinia asked as she looked around the house. Honestly, to Taori it looked exactly the same as it had when she'd started, but... "Um, yeah, looks great, honey," he replied with a frown. The other two Saiyans were supposed to arrive any minute, now. If they were on time, that was.

”Hurry up, jackass! We’re late as it is!”

Vocado hopped over a rock, his cart wobbling along the uneven terrain as he moved toward Tarbel Village. It’d been ages since he’d heard from Taori; mostly because he thought the guy died ages ago. No sense checking in on a dead man, right? When he got invited, though, he was ecstatic. Not only had one of their old Crusher Corps squad of skunks made it out the other end alive, he’d also bagged himself a girl!

Settling down was never in either of the Bonewood’s minds. Not for a while, anyways. The war was so all-encompassing that a relationship seemed out of the question. To make matters worse, no girl (or guy, if either Bonewood wanted to swing that way) worth their salt wanted anything to do with them romantically. Their family name was toxic, after all.

Vocado had a small wooden cart dragging behind him, filled to the brim with meats and sweets. A few fresh-baked pastries sat at the top of the pile, wisps of steam spreading their delightful scent across the town square.

”I do not know WHO it is that you know that can make pastries, Pitt, but I’m sure as hell glad you know ‘em. If we showed up at Pretty Boy’s house with some meat and nothing else I’m pretty sure that’s tantamount to social suicide.”

In truth, he’d forgotten most of the cultural niceties one provided to their friends in the upper circles. Granted, Taori wasn’t a royal anymore- neither was Vocado- but the effort still needed to be extended for someone who inspired them so long ago.

Pulling with a bit extra force, Vocado skid to a stop just outside the address provided. He tugged on the neck of his battlesuit, and gulped. The door was just... There. Waiting to be knocked on.

”Maybe we should leave. Come back some other time. He hates meat I think. Like, allergic or some crap. Yeah. That’s why we should go. Let’s go Pitt.”

He turned to leave, but tripped on a stray pebble, and shoulder-checked the door. With a loud KNOCK, he slid down the side, and quickly got back to his feet. Dusting himself off, he knocked a few more times with his knuckles, trying to act as if he hadn’t just sent a splinter down the bottom half of their new door.

”Don’t say nothing weird, okay? This is Taori— Pretty Boy himself. He was basically second in command before old Lettu bit the dust.” He grit his teeth, and spoke between them as if trying to pretend he wasn’t talking. He could’ve swore he heard someone move to unlock the door on the other side.

”I only told him a little bit about the Shredder Corp over comms, so try to at least pretend we’re normal for an hour and then he’ll go back to enjoying his life.”

Pitt was happy to be on their way to visit an old comrade. However the idea of meeting his old buddy, and not getting to spar meant he'd have to... be civil. Pitt had faced down waves of Tuffle infantry and laughed, but the idea of a house call? Horrifying. The only person he really had the chance to talk to often was Vocado, and they usually ended up fighting. His brother seemed deadly serious with him when he warned Pitt to not start of by making a hole in Taori's home. Pitt had been lucky this trip, winning the brother's customary rock paper scissors game. Meaning Vocado took the brunt of their supplies, leaving Pitt only with a small bottle of hooch he drank with his comrades in the past. Not easy to find such terrible stuff now a days, but he managed.

His brother thanked him for bringing pastries. Pitt had lied and told him he got them off a baker somewhere. But in reality, it was him who made the confections. A secret hobby that he'd dare not let be known. It was a rare opportunity for him to see how others enjoyed his baking. He said nothing further about the subject, the conversation just adding to his anxiety as Vocado ended with social suicide. He gulped audibly in sync with his brother as they approached. They were right in front of the place, but it seemed Vocado had cold feet. "C'mon Cado we've fought with this guy through the trenches, now go on an- PFFT" Pitt fought his laughter from boiling out, covering his mouth as his brother fell into the door. It helped relieve him of the stress, thinking to himself how stupid they had been acting.

Pitt only nodded in agreement as his brother regained his composure. A bit agitated that he felt the need to keep reminding him of normalcy, as if he wasn't also of noble blood. Of course Pitt never did learn how to walk the walk or talk the talk as his elder did, but he felt he was plenty normal. He'd have to settle it later though. "Open up Pretty-boy! The Bonewood brothers come bearing gifts for your new female!" Pitt wore a proud look on his face, believing he was doing the posh thing perfectly. Besides he was sure their old comrade would forgive his intrusion.

"Uh, yeah, before you meet these guys, I should probably tell you..." Taori began as Alpinia checked herself in the mirror to make sure her rubber armor dress looked to be in tip-top shape. She glanced over at him curiously as she asked, "What? Please don't drop some major bombshell on me seconds before your friends arrive." Taori shook his head. "No, no, nothing like that. More just that, uh, I know you're used to more what high class Saiyan demeanor is like, and these two are gonna be a bit more... Guttural." Alpinia blinked.

"Guttural?"

"Yeah."

"Do you know what that word actually means?"

"Not... Fully, but I think it gets the message across."

"Uh huh."

There was then a knock at the door. Well, not a knock, more like a loud slam. Taori and Alpinia exchanged a glance as they both got ready and headed to the door to open it for their guests. They could hear the pair talking on the other side as they unlocked it, and Pitt's comment about Taori's 'female' prompted a furrowed brown from Alpinia. "They're not those kinds of guys who get totally weird around girls, are they?" she whisper-asked Taori, but he shook his head. "Just relax," he said, then the door swung open and he was greeted with his old comrades.

"Hey, Tall Guy," he said with a smile as he clasped Vocado on the shoulder and give him a light jostle. "Good to see you, again. You too, Runt. Looking nice and... Short." Taori hoped Pitt understood the clear irony in his statement as the younger warrior practically towered over everyone else. "Ah, and, this is my wife, Alpinia," Taori added as he stepped aside and gestured towards the Saiyan woman.

"It's so nice to finally meet the two of you," she stated with a slight bow of her head and a smile, and she continued as she held out her hand to shake Vocado's, and then Pitt's. "Taori's told me plenty about your escapades back in the day. You two really helped shape him up! He was about as strong as I was when he left, and by the time he came back, he could just about lift me with one hand!" Taori looked vaguely embarrassed by her remarks over his previously rather low power level, though he made no comment on it. "Uh, come ins-" he began, but then he spotted the... Cart? "Oh, are you two... Traveling?" he asked. It hadn't occurred to him the cart may have been meant for him. "Well, feel free to hitch up your cart out here in the yard."

The door opened, and Vocado felt the wind leave him. Taori answered the door, and not far behind him was a girl a tad shorter than him. She was quite pretty, as one might expect for a girl that Taori fell for. The first few words that came out of the couple’s mouths sounded muted and dull to the Bonewood’s ears, but he shook the shock away and bowed graciously.

”Oh it’s no trouble, ma’am. If it weren’t for this guy, we wouldn’t be half the men we are today. Though, I guess from appearances that might not be saying a lot...”

Vocado scratched the back of his head. Sure, they’d put on some of their nicer armor, but it was still scuffed and battle-worn. Luckily he’d been able to scrub out any bloodstains, and the smell of the pies overpowered any ambient odor from the clothing.

”I really can’t believe it... Taori got out and got himself a girl. Oh, sorry- I should introduce myself!” Though he bowed before, he did so again, and gestured to himself before a sweeping hand motioned to Pitt. ”I’m Vocado, and this is my brother, Pitt. I’m sure you knew that but yknow... Figure I’d help put a name to the face or however you say it.”

For a moment he stood there awkwardly, shifting his attention to the cart behind him. ”... What? Oh no- no no this is for you two! We weren’t sure how long you guys have had the place so call this a housewarming gift.”

Try as he might to fit through the door with the cart, it was no good.

”Should we... you want me to carry some of this inside? Do you have a fridge in the back maybe? We’re Saiyans sure but I don’t think we can eat all this meat in a day...”

The door opened and Pitt's smile became a bit crooked with nerves. He waved a hand through his hair, the unruly mess unchanging regardless of his trying to tame it. Taori seemed almost the same as when they had been newbies in the military. He had a bit more muscle structure now though, Pitt more upset they couldn't talk over a fight. He greeted him and his brother with nicknames. Pitt hadn't heard anyone call him by the name runt in ages, it brang a wave of nostalgia to his mind. Pitt gave a hearty laugh and a scout salute in response. "Good to see you're still in one piece Pretty boy!" Repaying Taori by greeting him with the nickname he also went by.

He stood aside in the doorway giving view of his mate. The female Saiyan was quite strong it seemed, Pitt couldn't resist taking a quick sniff of their power levels. He hoped desperately his tick for sensing ki didn't come off as rude if noticed. He was happy to see his friend had found aa capable wife, and not some weakling. He shook her hand and nodded to her giving Taori an impressed look. "Wow pretty boy, looks like you lived up to your name! Can't believe you actually settled down, happy for you two." Vocado placed the two's names to faces, making sure Alpina got the gist. Pitt was sure if Taori said anything about them, she know who from who right away by size alone. Still he nodded when his brother introduced him.

Alpina thanked the two for making her husband stronger. "Don't get me wrong we definitely sparred in our day. But Taori was the one who helped us more than we helped him. We're real grateful!" Pitt spoke to both of them. Stopping himself from noting anything about their strength or power levels. "Damn maybe Cado's right. This whole mingling thing his harder than it looks..."

Taori asked if they were travelling when he spotted the cart they towed with them. Vocado explained that it was a gift for the couple. "That's right we brought grub and, um, pastries I bought from a baker. But most importantly, I managed to find some old Saiyan whiskey the boys from the Crusher Corps! All yours pal, oh and of course yours as well Alpina." Pitt offered the couple the bottle witha toothy grin.

Ah, right. 'Pretty Boy.' Taori had forgotten about that nickname for the most part, though he remembered it now. Where had that one come from, again? Something to do with his dislike of using the Oozaru form, he was pretty sure. It wasn't that he'd staunchly refuse to turn himself into a large ape, it was more that he just... Didn't really enjoy turning into a large ape. If it could be avoided, he was more than happy to stay humanoid. "Ah, uh, yeah, let's take some of that inside," he said as Vocado explained the meat was a gift. "Thanks."

"Oh, these cuts look delicious," Alpinia commented as she grabbed her share of the bounty they had been gifted by the pair of other Saiyans. "Well, Taori, your friends sure know the way to a woman's heart!" Taori chuckled, then accepted the bottle from Pitt. "Then I'm sure these two aren't far off from pleasing the hearts of their own Saiyan girls," he suggested with a wink towards his old comrades in arms.

Once they were all inside, Alpinia mostly took to fitting all of the stuff they'd been brought into their fridge, which was a slight struggle. Taori shut the door behind them, then turned around and crossed his arms as he looked Vocado and Pitt up and down. They hadn't changed all too much from their younger days, though he supposed that was true of most Saiyans. "So, what the hell have you two been up to? I'd have reached out to catch up with you sooner, but these last few months have been the first time I've had to relax since I was born."

It didn't take long with the four of them working together, but eventually they did indeed fit just about everything in the cart into the house. Vocado was the last to bring food in, holding one pie in each hand. They were berry pies, but of what type he couldn't be quite sure. Vegeta didn't have much in the way of fruits, but Plant had plenty. Could this baker have been a tuffle? Maybe they just had connections on both sides.

"Quality stuff, right? We had a few favors to pull with some of the butchers in Sadala. Gave us a good deal on all of this as thanks for saving their asses a couple years ago."

Setting the pies down on the kitchen counter, Vocado wiped his brow and sat down, realizing only after he took the seat that it might be a little rude to just sit without permission. Oh well, he supposed, no use standing up now.

"What haven't we done, honestly. Lots and lots of fighting, as you might guess. Uhh... Oh! We formed our own squad, I think I told you when you called. The Shredder Corp!" Vocado chuckled, and cracked his knuckles. "We've got quite a reputation in the lower class circles. I think if we keep at it we'll reach top of the charts pretty soon. Not a lot of other squads have our drive."

"Oh uh, not much time for ladies in wartime I'm afraid." Pitt let out a nervous laugh at the idea. He hadn't even thought of anything of the sort. Not for the past five years. He seen his brother help himself to a seat. Pitt thought to follow suit, but he was a bit afraid he'd break something under his weight.

He looked around the abode and gave a nod of approval. "Haven't seen a place this clean in a long while! Nice house you got here pal."
Pitt gave his old comrade a pat on the back. His brother mentioned their new corps, stating they were on the rise. "Oh yeah, were really cutting a name for ourselves out here. One day I'm sure we'll be the envy of those uptight elites. You know Taori, you're always welcome to join us. You'd be a huge help in the war. No pressure though, I know you've got you're own thing now."

Pitt finally found a pair of chairs that seemed sturdy enough, pulling both together and using them as a single seat. They were wooden chairs and he faced them both towards the other three sitting backwards upon then and crossing his arms on their backs.

"Speaking of your own thing, how's the settled down life treating you? Miss your glory days?"

"Favors?" Taori replied with a smirk, his arms crossed over his chest. "I hope you weren't going to be needing those later. I'd hate for you to go and bite it later because some butcher wasn't willing to lend you a hand." He let out a laugh after he'd finished speaking, then gave Pitt a slap on the back as the taller man expressed his lack of time for finding himself a girl. "Ah, come on, we had a couple of girls in our squad. Sure, they're all dead now, but ladies do exist in wartime." What were their names, again? Kepa and Mashua? Something like that. Speaking of their old corps, Taori was surprised to hear that Vocado had gone and formed a new one of his own.

"Shredder Corps, huh?" he asked as he sat down across from his old comrade. "Rolls off the tongue decently. Not a bad name." He eyed Pitt as the other Saiyan asked him if he wanted to join, and from the look on his face, it was probably clear that the question wasn't something he immediately dismissed. But as Alpinia walked back into the room with some drinks for the four of them, his eyes moved back towards her, and he shook his head. "No, I'm afraid those days are behind me, now," he replied.

"The war's gone quiet lately anyway, hasn't it?" Alpinia chimed in as she sat down, after having distributed everyone their alcoholic beverages. "I don't know if there's much Taori can do to help out unless the fighting kicks back up. He's much more of a big, loud explosions kind of guy rather than the more discreet sort of thing that'd be helpful right now." "Hey, I can be discreet!" he protested, though he wasn't entirely sure that was true. "But yeah, besides, I haven't been training much, I'd just slow you guys down. It's nice to look back on those days in combat, but it's also nice to not have to wonder if I'll be alive to go to bed each night. I'm done, I think."

Vocado intentionally neglected to mention their growing reputation as Mercenary Murderers. Starting off a conversation with how hard it is to keep new recruits alive seemed a little... Counterproductive. Considering Pitt tried to recruit Taori, and the man had already refused, Vocado suspected they might not be invited back if he happened to let slip his nickname: "The Grim Reaper".

When Alpinia returned with drinks, he gladly accepted one. It was a nice, inviting cream color. Some sort of fancy liqueur, perhaps? Never hurt to try something different, he supposed.

"Quiet indeed," Vocado replied, excluding his recent expeditions into enemy territory. "But we make due, I guess. Lots of odd jobs to perform or little skirmishes that break out." He took a sip of his drink, and raised his brow at the taste. Soft burn, but a refreshing aftertaste. Strange for alcohol, but not unwelcome. "In all honesty, it kind of feels like the ceasefire order was just for show. Top brass is about as useful as they always have been, and the Tuffles are just keeping to themselves like they used to. Only difference is the frontlines are a little sparse, I guess..."

The Bonewood fell silent for a bit, turning the conversation over in his head a little. Sure, Taori was weak, but it didn't mean he was useless by any means. Everyone had a role in combat, but was it right to take this life away from him? He was happy here. Content and free of the struggles that war brought. Then again, if he really wanted to be away from the conflict wouldn't he have found a home off-world? Maybe, just maybe, there was a part of him that wanted in.

"I could give you some big speech about how the war needs every able-bodied Saiyan or whatever, but we both know the propaganda pitch inside and out by now." Chuckling awkwardly, he continued. "I'm really happy for you, Taori. I mean it. This house, this town... It's the dream. It's what we're fighting for, and you fought enough to make it!"

Pitt couldn't help but think back to his past with the other gender. His hatred of the Tuffles was born from the time his only real love interest had been double crossed. In fact if it wasn't for that moment who knows Pitt may be doing the same as Taori now. The soldier couldn't help but envy his old squad mate. "Yeah I'm sure one day hehe." Pitt was already sure of Taori's answer before he said it. He definitely would've ran into him if Pretty Boy was still interested. His look said it all as he declined. "No worries, didn't wanna be pushy. Just had to ask you know?"

Alpina chimed in about the standstill in the war, while serving beverages that caught Pitt's interest. He took the glass with a nod of thanks and took a sip. It was extremely refreshing, Pitt was more than happy for the hospitality. Pitt couldn't help but chuckle as the couple squabbled a bit. His brother went on to state that Taori had done his part to earn retirement, and that he was happy for him regardless of staying so. "I agree with Cado on that, you did your share in the Crusher days. But I can't help but notice you're getting a little out of shape pal. Not trying to tee you off, but you should stop by for some training every once in a while! Maybe head out with us for some Saiba hunting like Vocado always drags me along for. Probably because he's scared of the little things."

Pitt jabbed at his brothers arm as he finished the offer with a quip. He couldn't help but feel Taori could due with some training, even if he wasn't a soldier any longer.

Taori had to say he'd felt slightly nervous at declining the offer Vocado had given him. It wasn't as though he expected his old war buddy to get violent or angry at the drop of a hat like that, more that he didn't want Vocado to keep pressing him on it.

His mind had been fairly made up, and unless something happened to change his current living situation, he really couldn't see himself going out there and roughing up Tuffles. Though, he supposed he'd been a little bit active, at least when it came to trying to track down the truth about Garrick. Vocado and Pitt wouldn't know anything on that front, though - that all had gone down well after he'd lost contact with the two of them.

But, Vocado and Pitt were happy for him, and he was content to accept that happiness without question, even if they were only trying to be polite. "Yeah, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones," he replied after he'd taken a sip from the one of the drinks Alpinia had brought them. Pitt, uh, did have a point, though.

Taori hadn't checked his power level in a while, but he had a feeling it hadn't gone far above 3,000, which was where he'd left it when he'd finally quit after Garrick's death. It had been a relatively decent power level for a Saiyan of his status at the time, but it seemed like power levels were growing all around. Maybe it would be a good idea to give himself a boost.

"That's a tempting offer, now that you mention it," he replied to Pitt's offer of Saiba hunting. "I think I might actually have to say yes to that one, even!" Alpinia looked a bit concerned, though. "Saiba hunting?" she asked, her head tilted and her finger pressed against her chin while he eyes drifted up towards the ceiling. "Aren't those the awful creatures who blow themselves up and whatnot? I don't know, I've heard of people getting seriously injured by those things." Taori shrugged.

"Well, I do want to stay in shape. And a little excitement never hurt anyone. Besides, if I can handle Tuffles, I can handle some Saibas. Little creatures aren't even smart enough to know how to wipe their own asses." He glanced over at Vocado. "So, is that what your group's mostly being hired for? Pest extermination?"

Maybe that was propaganda talking, but Vocado really did enjoy hunting the saiba creatures that roamed the wastes. Their strange habits made them incredibly tough prey to track, which made it all the more satisfying to catch and beat one down. Hopefully Taori wouldn’t be so rusty as to hurt himself during a hunt.

Taori inquired as to what Vocado’s squad was up to, which gave the Saiyan some pause. In truth he’d been doing explicitly illegal acts most of the time. Throwing down with Tuffles, infiltrating enemy territory. It was the kind of stuff that ought to kickstart the war instantaneously if word got out.

”Yeah. Pest control, patrols. Keeping the border safe and crap. You know the drill.”

He chuckled, and nudged Pitt preemptively. If that dope mentioned anything serious that’d happened lately it might make them look bad in front of Alpinia.

”If you wanted, we could make it a four-man trip. Are you much of a hunter, Alpinia? Could be a good way for us to get to know you and catch up with Pretty Boy at the same time.”

Pitt downed the remaining liquid in his glass as talk of his offer commenced. It seemed at first Taori was accepting his offer, which Pitt was happy to hear. The couple asked the duo if pest control was more than just a hobby for the Shredder Corp. Pitt was going to correct them, but it seemed his brother was in no rush to state the truth of how much danger they had been through in recent times. Pitt didn't mind under playing the corps recent affairs, but so he went along with his brother simply nodding as Vocado explained they were pest control and border patrol.

"Yeah Alpina should definitely come along if she wants, it'd be great to see pretty boy and his wife out in the field. I wonder if you two have any combo attacks, you ever get to practicing that sort of thing pretty boy? And if we do head out as a quartet, I promise you won't regret it. It is a bit boring when you go with Vocado, but if I'm tagging along I promise it won't be too dull." Pitt chuckled as he chided his older brother. He was much more relaxed at this point, and surprisingly he was having a pleasant time regardless of the lack of sparring.
