This was it.
The day had finally come.
... For Dion to become an UNCLE!
If you were to go back in time to when Dion was still slaving away amidst his duration spent in indentured servitude to the snobbiest of nobles back on planet Plant and told him that he was going to be an uncle one day, he'd probably tell you that you were crazy- and yet, here he was, flying through the bright green Namekian afternoon skies on his way to greet who was meant to be the first in a (hopefully) very long line of future nieces and nephews!
While the majority of his feelings were a mixture of pride, gratitude, and most importantly excitement- there did still remain a portion of him that felt incredibly afraid. While it wasn't the type of fear that had at one point followed him into every social interaction, it was a type of fear that remained well founded all the same.
That fear being the horrific notion of the baby disliking him. The very thought sent shivers down the normally more straightened Saiyan's spine as he brushed a few of the bangs that flew into his four eyed gaze. Sure, was it hard for a baby to dislike anyone considering they didn't even have an understanding of dislike and like in the first place? Sure. But with Dion's string of luck in the past, the percentage chance of the baby abhorring his entire existence may have been low, but never zero.
Which is why Dion took this chance at first impression just as serious as he did with any other momentous occasion in his life. Dressing up in his Sunday best and bringing with him a plethora of gifts and baby things that he hoped both parents and child would come to enjoy! It wasn't too hard to go about choosing what he thought would be good to gift the duo's most recent plus one, seeing as he himself had taken care of Carro while he was only just older than a toddler, and with Amara's help, he was able to package everything into one, small sleek looking capsule!
Now all that was left was to meet the kid in question. It had been a long time coming- and there were many points where Dion didn't think he'd actually end up seeing the kid at all because of his hellishly unpredictable schedule! But, thankfully, after a whole lot of hoping, the young man finally found a good chunk of time to offer his congratulations to the proud mother and father.
Soon enough, Dion was hovering over the main entrance path toward the Grand Elder Village proper- floating down with a whimsical skip in his step and beginning to beeline it to the other side of the village before he was stopped by one of the older looking elders. Blinking, Dion opened his mouth to speak but was promptly shushed- with even more suspicious looking elders beginning to surround the youth in a circular formation.
Laughing nervously, Dion tried once again to get a word out before one of the elders promptly cut him off, saying in a loud, incensed sounding tone, "What the heck do you think you're doing here, waltzing in on our peaceful little village of ours?! Do you even know of the sacred ground you step upon?!"
Immediately flushing to a violent degree, Dion raised both of his hands up in mock surrender, saying in a stammering, panicky reply, "N-no no no no wait- I swear I have a good reason for being here! O-obviously Nero and Zhalla haven't introduced me yet, but m-my name's Dion, and I'm here to pay my respects to-"
"There's no way the Grand Guru would ever befriend such a troublesome looking face! How dare you lie to us in such a manner?"
"N-no, please, I swear! If this is about what Kronos did, I told him not to suplex anymore Namekians while planetside, I'm sorry if I-"
Suddenly, as quickly as the situation had started, it immediately began to defuse- with one of the older Namekians suddenly breaking out in laughter. Soon enough, his starting chorus was followed suit, with the entire company of elder Namekians laughing in unison as Dion looked on in utter confusion.
"You need not worry Mr. Haddock, we know very well who you are," reassured the first elder Namekian as he patted the flushed young fighter on the shoulder. "We were told that you would be coming today and thought we might all greet you in person! Grand Guru Nero suggested it himself, saying that it would be, quote, 'really funny'."
Blinking, Dion immediately began to deflate- the nerves swiftly leaving his body as he sighed a happy sigh of relief. After thanking the company of elders for the warm (albeit quite unorthodox welcome) it didn't take long for the group to lead Dion exactly where he was aiming to be- and soon enough, the brotherly bartender was standing before the front door of Zhalla and Nero's humble abode.
Taking a deep breath, Dion raised the back of his fist to knock, only to stop- hesitation once again grasping him by the collar. Doubt filling his mind as to whether or not he not only was capable, but even deserving of such a connection to a child of his own little sister's making. He had already hurt so many people in the past, what if he ended up hurting this little boy too?
Gritting his teeth, Dion looked back up toward the well-painted door with a determined look on his face.
'If you want to make amends, do not go back. Go forward.'
Knocking on the door, Dion prepared to take his first few steps forward toward the future. A better future.
For those who were here to stay, and for all who would come after them.
