When Sen had last encountered the fox Xiaolan he had left behind a note with coordinates on it. Whether or not the fox actually picked up the note he didn't know. In fact, Sen didn't even know if Xiaolan would understand coordinates, or want to show up. If all three of these things were true then Xiaolan would find himself deep in the heart of the Land of Ice, though probably not where he was expecting to show up. Sen had a feeling that Xiaolan would assume the coordinates would lead to some sort of home belonging to the Tuffle.
If the fox actually believed that Sen would give up the details to his home so easily then he was a bigger fool than Sen had realized. What the coordinates actually lead to was an area within the Land of Ice known as the Cave of Darkness, though Sen had begun referring to it simply as the Cave. It was a standard landmark that the Tuffle had been watching over for some time.
As far as he could tell, no one else had been here for around a year or so which meant that he and any visitors would have some privacy. And if Xiaolan decided to hand that note over to the Triad to try and get revenge on Sen they would find themselves quite disappointed in the results. But hopefully it wouldn't come to that. Sen would sit atop the cave with his binoculars in hand, waiting to see who it would be that approached the Cave today.
There was a lot on Xiaolan's plate as of late with all that stuff that happened with Jackie and Sen. While the Kami looked somewhat pacified with her wishes of seeing the Lookout restored granted, Sen still was a source of concerns. Regardless of the latter's unpredictable nature, now that Xiaolan wanted to sever his ties with the Triad and get rid of them, even people like Sen were beyond fair game to ally himself with. If he wasn't mistaken, the Triad would be on his ass until the end of times for betraying them, so going undercover was a sensible thing to do.
Speaking of hiding, Xiaolan found himself in the Land of Ice, his appearance diminished to one of a small feral fox whose dense ivory fur was tipped crimson at the level of his tail, ears, and eyebrows. In a way, this was very much a smaller version of the kitsune who he sometimes employed when needing to be sneaky or endure harsher climates. Today, it was to withstand the cold as he made his way to the hideout indicated by the coordinates Sen left him during their last interaction in the desert. The fox almost died on that day and it is only through sheer guile that he was able to preserve himself from the Tuffle's wrath.
"Keke?" Xiaolan's bounces through the snow came to a halt as he noticed something in the horizon: The Cave of Darkness, a landmark who he wasn't too familiar with. While he heard the rumors about the place being hotter than a volcano and being inhabited with demons, Xiolan couldn't vouch for any of that. Was he going to find out today? Maybe, maybe not - at any rate, he resumed his hopping gait, jumping from one patch of snow before sinking into another, repeating the process ad nauseam until he was close enough to admire the entrance of the Cave.

Xiaolan uses his Foxy Changeling UT to maintain the guise of a small feral fox counterpart of himself! The implications of this are exceptionally grim 😄 UT used: Foxy ChangelingXiaolan perfected the ancient kitsune art of morphing his body. Provided he has absorbed their soul via his "Monstrous Kitsune Nature" Utility technique, Xiaolan can assume someone else’s appearance. This doesn’t give him any of their mechanical effects, such as but not limited to techniques and traits. While unable to replicate their Ki signature, Xiaolan can perfectly mimic their voice due to reconfiguring his vocal cords in the metamorphosis process. Xiaolan also has a pool of "past hit NPCs" he can turn into - mostly petty Earthling criminals of no renown.

Sen was a patient man. He had spent several months in hiding, developing methods to most efficiently eradicate the Saiyans. He had spent hours looking over vials and test results, carefully jotting down all the little bits of information he needed to know. But even for him waiting out in the cold was getting frustrating, so he decided to move things within the cave for the time being, eager to warm up and clean the snow off of himself. Xiaolan was probably still some ways away.
Sen found himself the most comfortable looking rock he could find to sit on, and got to thinking about just what the Hell he was doing out here anyway. Could this Xiaolan figure really be trusted? Sen was not someone who trusted easily, and knowing the connections to the Triad who had already burnt Sen once did nothing to quell his suspicions.
But those words said by the Fox stuck in his mind. As much as Sen hated to admit it, his progress alone had halted. Just one ally could potentially go a long way to helping him... "Huh? What was that?" The Tuffle shot up and looked to the entrance of the cave where he saw a fox running towards him. "Well, at least there's something to eat I guess." Sen pulled the pistol from his waist and took aim and the creature.
The fox remained still, observing the entrance of the cave as Sen put the small fox under his crosshair, readying himself to deliver the coup de grace. However, probably just before he pulled the trigger, he probably noticed something quite odd; unnatural squirmings coming from the little creature. Was it about to explode or puke? It almost looked like it but, no, there was more to this critter than what meets the eyes.
"GRRRRRM!" With a groan of exertion both physical and mental, Xiaolan undid his foxy changeling guise, his feral form collapsing on itself before stretching outward as a blurred, white-furred mass, reconfiguring itself with a puff of white smoke. Once the magical fumes subsided, the Way of the Void master's true figure was bared for Sen to witness. Was this another one of his tricks?
The fox was darting his snout left and right, obviously snooping about for something or someone, probably the Tuffle militant. "MISTER BEKE? Or was it mister Saka, hmph..." Xiaolan called out amidst the cold emptiness of the Land of Ice, his throat already growing sore thanks to the dry winds whipping him. True to their last meetings, Xiaolan still had no idea what Sen's real identity was.
Xiaolan's fur was of lower density in his anthropomorphic form and his clothes weren't doing him any favor in this environment, so the sooner he could get some cover from mother nature the better. Unsure if the "proprietor" of the cave was outside, the fox shuffled closer toward the entrance, keeping the sleeves of his changpao together to warm his shivering figure up.

Quite literally just before Sen fired the fox was engulfed in a puff smoke; soon clearing to reveal Xiaolan standing out in the snow. A fox transformed into another fox; perhaps Sen should have seen it coming. His annoyance at the disguise almost caused him to pull the trigger anyway, but he refrained for the sake of progress. "You ought to have announced yourself sooner, else you would have ended up my dinner. Come inside before you freeze to death."
Sen had walked over to the entrance of the cave, before turning back within. The Tuffle quickly set up a fire to keep the two of them warm, waiting for Xiaolan to enter before continuing. "My name is Sen, and if you ever repeat any of what I'm about to tell you I will kill you without hesitation, before disposing of the body in a way that will never be discovered."
Sen didn't wait for any sort of confirmation before going on. "I worked within Tuffle counter intelligence for over a decade before moving into field work. Technically it was a step down on the ladder, but I was happier their. My squad organized over a hundred raids on Saiyan positions, and were successful in almost every endeavor. That was until I was betrayed by my government and sentenced for a false treason. That's why I came to Earth."
Xiaolan looked up toward a familiar voice, his brow furrowing with surprise. Xiaolan waved while his lips quirked up in a wide grin; it was clear that, between the two of them, the kitsune was the one who was the "most thrilled". "Sorry for that, Mister, but I didn't want to potentially sell myself to local wildlife before making sure that the coordinates were real and not some kind of hoax!" Not that polar bears or killer whales would have posed much of a threat to Xiaolan, but he preferred that over admitting the actual truth. "Don't have to repeat yourself twice!" Xiaolan hurried himself inside the cave, the bonfire's heat providing solace to his trembling body who now was in much better condition.
Xiaolan stood by the fire, putting his palms near the crackling flame. "A pleasure to make your official acquaintance, Mister Sen. My name was really Xiaolan from the beginning... and understood; what happens in the Land of Ice stays in the Land of Ice, hehehe..." Xiaolan's red-tipped ears dropped slightly; what Sen said reminded him of that encounter atop the Kiwi Volcano that ended up sourly. If Sen was willing to kill an innocent man who just helped him out of the kindness of their heart, then unleashing deathly reprisals at a traitor was to be expected.
Xiaolan listened intently to the presentation of Sen's pedigree. Him being some kind of spy-adjacent operative made since with all these false identities he fabricated for himself. That part about the Tuffles, however, piqued his curiosity. "The Tuffles? This must be the name of your species, correct? To be honest, your resemblance to a human is uncanny!" The Tuffle government betrayed a loyal soldier? Really? Maybe Sen was lying and he turned rogue on his country... There was no incentive for Xiaolan to trust the Tuffle, but he played that part well. "Sounds like a classical case of setup, if you want my opinion. The theory I have is probably one you actually came up with: There must be puppet officials in your government loyal to the Saiyan state."
PL: 52,000 (Xiaolan is in his Base form and under the Anti Sense trait; his Ki signature is null and void!) UT used: N/A KP: 6/6 - MP: 0/6 - HP: 000/250 Traits: Antisense's Free Escape Attempt [1/1], Crane School Secrets [1/1], Vampiric [1/1] Items: Blood Ruby [1/1]
Xiaolan had slipped up. The way he said those words 'This must be the name of your species, correct' gave away the truth. There's no way that Xiaolan could truly understand the Tuffle and Saiyan dichotomy if he was only just now learning what the word Tuffle was. Sen should have and would have disintegrated Xiaolan right then and there... if he were in his right mind. But when Sen got to talking about Saiyans he often blocked out a lot of the outside world, only being pulled back in by what Xiaolan said next.
"Of course! A bloody set up. I never should have left counter intelligence! When I was running things spies were nothing to worry about, but ever since I left... I had my suspicions that there were secret dealings going on behind the scenes. But when I was out in the field there was little I could do about it."
It made too much sense to be false. His team was too successful; they were practically single handedly winning the war, and then the Tuffles decide to give in and accept a truce? Half the bloody government was probably on the Saiyan payroll. "Once I get my hands on them..." Sen needed to get back to Plant as soon as possible; for more than one reason now. But he didn't bring Xiaolan out here just so the two could seethe together.
"Xiaolan! If you are to aid me then I need to know that you won't drag me down. You've been hiding your power up until now. Show it to me."
From hearing Sen's spiel, Xiaolan learned a handful of things about the Tuffles. Contrary to what the fox first imagined about the "tyrants" that Sen first described when talking about the Saiyans, their takeover didn't happen overnight. Indeed, there was a struggle that sounded a whole lot like a war that happened between the two species. Were the Saiyans and Tuffles coexisting at first or did the Saiyans just sorta showed up one day and began blasting? Xiaolan thought about asking Sen, but abstained himself from doing so to not allow his masquerade to weaken due to his lack of knowledge.
"That awful situation sounds like the byproduct of any form of command structure: The <<suits>> lacking the knowledge of field operatives or individuals involved in the process take short-term decisions benefiting them but harming the whole." Even before he met Megis who told him about Derry, Xiaolan really didn't like politicians and their byzantine machinations. What Sen just explained to Xiaolan only reinforced that preconceived notions of leader figures being untrustworthy.
Next, Sen asked for Xiaolan to expose the full brunt of his strength. This made sense if they wanted to work together but, knowing the fickle nature of his partner, the fox preferred to keep his cards close to his chest. Should he really do that though? Sen could take this as a telltale sign of betrayal. Seeing no other options, Xiaolan begrudgingly complied. "Fair enough." The fox drew his elbows behind his back, splaying his legs wide and baring his fangs with lips that bent downward as he allowed a green aura to flare around his body. Mirroring the glowy green veins that spread from the outer edges of his closed slit for eyes to his temples, the veil that used to be cast on his energy signature was lifted to reveal his true strength.
"Here you go." Xiaolan crossed his arms, knowing well that he wasn't necessarily on the upper galactic echelon in terms of power. Still, he had other talents that he was adamant on putting under the spotlight. "As you can see, I am not the strongest out there. What I lack in strength, however, I more than make up for it in infiltrative abilities with my shape changing and energy hiding abilities. Do you need intel? We just have to find a Saiyan -any of them will do, really- and I can devour their soul to steal their appearance. Don't believe me?" Xiaolan's face began morphing into a motley array of Earthlings who he slayed during his career. Men, women, Zoans, and even some Yokais were part of the flickering display. "Kitsunes, the subspecies of Earthling I am part of, need to prey on souls for sustenance. I've merely hit two birds with one stone by becoming a hitman. Now, we're fair and square since I've just exposed my biggest secret to you."

"Exactly." Sen had never gotten along with the brass all that well. They were constantly interjecting in his missions, and spent so much time complaining about his methods that it practically forced him out counter intelligence and back onto the field. From that point on things got a little better, but still he couldn't escape them entirely. He tried to do things the 'right' way and send his requests up the chain of command, but every little thing he wanted to try got rejected, no matter his record in the field.
"I tried to tell them about the efficacy of torture, or the successful applications of Destron and every damn time I had to hear a lecture on 'war crimes' and all that sort of nonsense. Don't they realize that we're fighting in a war? That's the only time you can engage in war crimes! They should have put me in charge of it all. My squad as good as they come, but even the best squad alone can only do so much."
Bringing this stuff up brought back so many bad memories; he was happy to distract himself with something else. The power put on display by Xiaolan was impressive, but the ability to 'consume' souls as it were, and to learn there memories was even more useful. There was so much he could gain from that... "Excellent. But we're not done yet. I can't let you go running around in my name without swearing an oaf of fealty first, so repeat after me."
Sen cleared his throat.
"I swear to fight for the Tuffle cause, from now until the end of time. I will fight for the Tuffles. I will bleed for the Tuffles. And when the time comes, I will give my life for the Tuffles. No Saiyan will live their life without fear so long as I shall breath."
The measures described by Sen who his squad supposedly employed during the Saiyan-Tuffle war were drastic, to say the least. Wasn't the point of war crimes and treaties surrounding them avoiding the pointless loss of civilian lives? Xiaolan was honestly in no position to judge due to his lack of context on the conflict, so he preferred to keep his opinions to himself and play into Sen's hands.
"You did your best given the circumstances. A military unit can only go so far without a lack of fundings and authorizations." That vapid statement was pretty much applicable to any group of professionals working toward a goal, but it was fitting given the situation. "Your home was attacked by a bunch of savages. Were your measures drastic? Certainly so, but the path to victory is paved with sacrifices. Ethics or the sake of your species? If I were in your shoes, my choice would have been the same." This definitely was the kind of uncompromising mindset that Sen was wallowing into; Xiaolan gave it to him. While the fox couldn't show an ounce of empathy to the Tuffle with the use of what sounded like dreadful weapons, he still understood the usefulness of ruthless interrogations. In his many years working for the Triad, he had to witness and participate in a few of those.
"I swear to fight for the Tuffle cause, from now until the end of times. I will fight for the Tuffles. I will bleed for the Tuffles. And when the time comes, I will give my life for the Tuffles. No Saiyan will live their life without fear so long as I shall breathe." Xiaolan repeated the sermon with a military salute, puffing up his chest with faux pride. Was it really that surprising that the fox spat back these binding words so fast without an iota of hesitation? Deep inside, the kitsune knew where his true allegiance lied. In spite of this, working with Sen wasn't that bad of an idea now given that the Saiyans were a very tangible threat that could affect Earth in the near future. It actually had already started with Lottus, but Xiaolan didn't know about that yet.
"What's next? Do you want to show me the facility? I doubt I'll need many weapons, but knowing what I am working with certainly won't hurt." The fox was also curious about knowing what Tuffle technology was like, given Sen had any in his HQ, of course.

Perhaps Sen was giving in a little too easy to Xiaolan, who was basically feeding the Tuffle exactly what he wanted to hear... but that was exactly what he wanted to hear. The oath came with acceptance from Sen, who was glad to have at best a useful ally and at worst a distraction in battle. For the time being he refrained from telling Xiaolan his plans about Konats as he envisioned that simple mission with little to no combat involved.
"A tour?" Sen tensed up. Allowing someone else to see his home was something big... but given the oath of fealty it seemed like a risk he could stomach. "Very well. Follow me; it's not that far actually." Sen walked outside of the cave and headed east, walking about two hundred steps before pointing out into the distance. "See the igloo? That's where it is." Not very impressive from the outside, but it was what was hidden that really mattered.
Once the two got to the igloo Sen opened up, revealing... still just an igloo, until he walked over to the back and flipped a hidden switch on the wall, which opened up the basement. "Here's were all the important stuff is kept." Walking down a small flight of stars, Xiaolan was introduced to the Tuffle's lab. Gone was the ice domain of above, replaced with cold steel walls, and filled to the brim with vials and beakers filled with various compounds.
Xiaolan noticed the tension in Sen's body language, which caused the fox to grow anxious in return. It was a chain reaction, sort of; the fox expected his newfound ally to lash out and do something reckless. Was this an unreasonable proposition considering the Tuffle's antecedents? Probably not, but it is with great relief that Xiaolan's fears were proven wrong when his psychopathic associate caved in to his demands.
"Alright! Lead the way!" All the tension left the air almost instantly. Even though Xiaolan wasn't super happy to leave the warmth of the cavern, he still complied, opting to shift back into his feral form with a puff of smoke heralding the transformation. "Don't mind if I stay like this, aye? My fur is denser in this form." Xiaolan followed Sen outside, his head tilting at the mention of the igloo he was able to spot the vague shape of in the distance. "An igloo?" That seemed like quite the cramped space to store his supplies, but maybe this snowy shelter had more going on than what met the eyes.
"Oh, spacious!" Xiaolan gasped in surprise at the reveal of the basement, taking good note of where the switch was, just in case. They descended the stairs, deeper into the bowels of Earth where the temperature was more pleasant. The curious fox hopped on one of the tables filled to the brim with glass containers containing substances of diverse colors. Xiaolan pawed one of them curiously, looking back at his friend with a wide-fanged grin.
"Well, yes, I'd like to see weapons!" Before the Tuffle had a panic attack, the fox ceased to toy with the beaker that piqued his interest and hopped off the table. "I do think that scrambling devices and smoke bombs would be the better tools to fulfill my functions, however." Xiaolan could easily hold his own against most people; what he needed was additional layers of contingency in case things went wrong.

"I prefer to do my damage on a large scale, and the best way to do that is mixing the right substances together." Sen moved over to a table on his left and glared down at a glass containing a ruby red liquid. Sen's biggest undertaking since arriving on Earth had been working a virus that specifically targeted Saiyans, and although it had taken him much longer than he would have liked to acquire Saiyan DNA, he had finally managed to create a working prototype.
"I've not yet come up with a name for it, but once I've tested and mass produced what you see in this little jar I will have the power to wipe out the entire Saiyan race... but I understand where you're coming from. Convention weapons have their uses as well of which I am also in great need of. Follow me to the armory."
Sen took a right turn and approached yet another hidden switch in the wall, which split open and revealed a small room filled with the sort of weapons that Xiaolan was interested in. Grenades of all varieties were kept on the left while the back wall and right held the various firearms that Sen liked to employ. "You may take what you like from here, so long as you keep a note of what you spend so that I can replace it at some point."
Sen's ominous words and gaze guided Xiaolan's closed slit for eyes toward a vial or crimson liquid. Understanding the implications of "large scale damage" in the context of a laboratory-grown substance, the fox swallowed, knowing this did not bode well for whoever the intended recipient was.
Before following Sen to the armory, Xiaolan issued an advice to the Tuffle for his people's sake. "Listen, Sen, I understand that this enemy urges drastic measures, but I recommend caution, even if the thing was made to only contaminate Saiyans." Xiaolan's knowledge of virology probably paled in comparison to Sen. Despite this, he still had a grasp of some key concepts such as cross-transfer. "I am not here to nag you. Still, once let loose, a virus, much like any living organism, will seek to evolve, to mutate. However, unlike cellular organisms, viruses see a dozen of generations unfold in the blink of an eye; if it's aggressive enough and there's abundant contact between Tuffles and Saiyans, cross-contamination may become possible." An uncharacteristically erudite explanation from the magical fox; even though he looked goofy at face value, his passion for cuisine and martial arts was rooted in an understanding of chemistry and anatomy.
After entering the armory, Xiaolan stared blankly at the walls decorated with a motley assortment of weapons. Short from paramilitary groups, this arsenal would have made most clandestine organizations on Earth blush. "Splendid." The fox dryly muttered with a slow nod, his attention driven toward the grenades. After shapeshifting back to his anthropomorphic shape, he procured a few flashbangs and smokes alongside a rechargeable concealment weapon that took the form of an innocuous pen. "You can keep the firearms; pigs can't frisk me for ki." These choices made Xiaolan's modus operandi quite obvious.

Sen didn't care much for Xiaolan's warning. He understood the risks that came with biological weapons, and he understood how to clean up his mess. "I wouldn't worry too much about that." Stepping out of the armory, the Tuffle moved over to the corner of his lab and pulled out one of the cupboard doors. Inside was large box that Sen very carefully removed and placed down onto the nearest table. Pulling apart the sides of the box revealed some sort of large, mechanical device.
"This is the outer shell of a large explosive. Once the Saiyans have been dealt with I shall drop a thousand of these over the ruins of their cities; each carrying enough napalm to wipe out any biological remains. One the cities are clear we shall tear their buildings down and plant the Tuffle flag." It would have been nice to just be able to drop bombs and not worry about anything else, but Sen knew that most Saiyans would likely be able to escape that, which is why he needed his biological weapon as well.
"It's time we move into action, Xiaolan. I shall be taking care of some business off world for a while to advance our goals. You may do as you please in that time, but be warned that once I return our plans will be accelerating." Sen moved back to his armory and took a duffle bag out from one of the cupboards below, before stacking it full with weapons and explosives. "If there's nothing else you need then you may go."
