Kabe soared through the sky, his mind clouded with anguish and self-doubt. The weight of his past actions and the revelation about the Devourer consumed him. He flew aimlessly, letting the wind whip against his face as tears streamed down his cheeks, exhausting himself as he continued like this for hours. He didn't know where he was going or what he was searching for; he only knew that he couldn't bear to face anyone, especially Zhalla, in his current state.
As he flew, images of the people he had lost flashed before his eyes. His mother, Mayen, Ivory and Messica... all of the countless lives that had been extinguished because they were around him. The guilt gnawed at his soul, and he felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility for the pain he had caused. And he worried for the pain he would cause others in the future.
Augh! He needed to get these thoughts out of his head.
He wanted to empty his brain, but he couldn't will himself to do nothing about what was tangling up his insides. There was still a question chewing on his brain in the back of his mind, and a few other questions rattling about that he might find some answers to.
Kabe wasn't ready to speak to Nero, to make sure he was not going to get Zhalla hurt one day. He couldn't see him yet, he could feel in his gut that something would go horribly wrong if he did. But! There was someone he could ask about this. Someone he'd been meaning to check in on for a while, anyway. Someone he had a few other questions for too.
It wasn't the best day for a good first impression, but Kabe pushed that thought down. He needed those answers. And the distraction. But how to find him?
With what little determination he could renew for himself in his broken, tired state, Kabe looked inward. What did he feel like? He'd worked out nearly three days ago how to sense enrgy for the first time, while sparring with Zhalla... but it had been confusing, personal. He was sure he could only do it because of the connection he had with her.
And Kabe had no connection here. But... someone did. Bee did. And Bee's mind regularly bled into Kabe's own, as Bee couldn't control his telepathy well. Kabe dug deep into what little memories Bee had shared with him. He searched through Bee's mind, using the link Bee had drawn with him, for a memory. Any memory would do. He saw it in his mind's eye:
He could smell the air of the forest, new and exciting. He could see the red skies, much prettier than the roof of a cold lab. He remembered the smile of a small feathered boy, that he'd met— well, that Bee had met, in a dumped heap of scrap he'd been eating. Blue fins and orange feathers filled his mind, followed by the sweet taste of a handful of yellowy-orange fruit. It lingered, mingling with that intense burst of joy that came with realizing someone is your friend for the first time.
The memory wasn't his to keep, but Kabe fought to hold onto it for as long as he could, in the tormented state of mind he was in. He focused on that feeling. It was hard to search for it, in the air of Namek... to reach out into the world and seek out something that evoked that feeling, that tugged at his core and told him he was on the right path.
But he found it. Just as Zhalla felt like warmth, like the best memories Kabe had of her, he could feel the Avali in the best of those memories Bee had shared. Wiping his puffed eyes, and dusting off his wind-battered clothes, Kabe whisked himself off towards that feeling until he found himself outside of a rather unassuming namekian home in the Dend Capital.
He knocked on the door. He rubbed his face and heard the door open. Before he could even see who opened it, he offered a strained smile, trying to pretend everything was okay. "I'm here to see the Pancake. Is he here?"
