The deserts of Earth were quite hot indeed. Even the wind on his face could not cool him off. Wiping sweat off of his brow, he looked over his servant, Excalibur's shoulder as they flew through the air. He had been riding on his back due to lacking the ability to fly himself. He had always considered learning to fly to be a waste of time. However, after he set out from Konats, he has had quite the need for it. As he looked down at the sands and various rock formations below, he frowned. Nothing. The locals said there were dinosaurs, sand worms, great beasts out here! He figured some of them had to be legends, but he expected to find something of note down here. That was when he saw it; a cave. Carved out into the rock, nearly hidden behind another rock formation. Pointing to the opening, he spoke to his servant. "Down there! We'll check the cave. Surely there is something in there. If anything, it will be nice to get out of the sun for awhile." Excalibur nodded in understanding.
"I understand, my lord. Taking us down." Lowering their altitude, the two landed at the cave's entrance. It was nearly fifty feet tall and thirty feet wide. Big enough for nearly anything on Earth to fit through. In this climate, cool places such as this would make for great shelter for the denizens of this desert.
"Excalibur! Enter the cave and give me a status report." The Majin looked towards his master, then towards the cave. The sun lit the inside a good seventy feet past the entrance, allowing a glimpse of what lie ahead. As his master called forth the floating grimoire he held so dear, the weapon, Excalibur, took a few steps into the cave, examining the ground. He saw them clearly; footprints. They were large, too. Large enough to belong to a creature nearly as tall as the cave mouth. They appeared to be leading further into the cave. There was something else, too. A reddish brown sludge in the dirt. Dipping the tips of his index and middle fingers into it, the Majin brought them up to his lips and tasted the substance. A strong metallic tang filled his mouth. This was blood.
"Blood, master. And footprints as well. I feel like we are close. The trail leads further into the cave. Shall we pursue it?" Excalibur knew the answer before he even asked. His master was a man of science and magic both. His experiments kept him from feeling fear, love, greed, humanity, anything that would interfere with his research or distract him in any way. His single-minded goal to learn as much about the world-- and about magic in particular-- are what led him to taking over the cult when his predecessor died. That being the case, he was most certainly going to risk heading into the unknown and braving the abyss in search of knowledge. Then, confirming his suspicions, Meitr spoke.
"Is that even a question? Yes, we will pursue it. It appears wounded as well. Maybe we can take some samples, hm? Oh, I can scarce wait. Come, my servant. Let us head off in search of Earth's mysteries." The wizard walked into the cave and began to follow the trail left for him. Excalibur followed beside him, eyes open for any potential threats. His master feared nothing, but Excalibur had no such boon. He feared losing his master, the only father he had ever known, to whatever lay in this cave. Finally, after almost half an hour of walking in near-darkness, a simple flame from Meitr's grimoire their only guide, they came across a large chamber with vaulted ceilings, stalactites and stalagmites clinging to the floors and ceiling. Clinging to the walls of the cave was a bioluminescent fungus that reacted with the light from Meitr's flame, nearly lighting up the entire room. The lights revealed, in the center of the chamber, a huge scaled creature. It appeared to be some form of dinosaur. It was very lizard-like, with small arms and thick, powerful legs. A mouthful of razor sharp teeth gave away clearly that this creature was a predator. It was sleeping on its stomach, its side appearing to have a massive gash that still flowed with blood. "Ah, magnificent! What a beautiful creature." Reaching into his bag and taking out a corked bottle, he nonchalantly approached the creature and began to take the blood flowing out of its side as his grimoire wrote down information about the creature by itself and drew a perfect photographic likeness of it using a set of blue, ghostly quills.
Excalibur had a bad feeling about this, but before he could voice his reservations, the creature opened a single eye, staggering to its feet and looking down at the tiny morsel taking its blood. Meitr smiled upwards at the creature. "Good, you're awake! Fantastic. I had some questions. Tell me, my fine specimen, are you sentient? Anything going on in that massive head of yours?" The creature did not respond, merely roaring in anger and agony at the wizard. "Oh, it appears not. What a pity. No matter. All creatures have their uses for the advancement of science. Even the non-sentient ones." The creature reared its head back, aiming a chomp in Meitr's direction in an attempt to swallow the little Konatsian wizard whole. However, it did not account for the jet black Majin accompanying him, who moved faster than he ever had before in the hopes of protecting his master. In nearly an instant, the Majin had grown its arm nearly twenty times its size, shoving it into the creature's jaws. It clamped down, causing Excalibur to wince in pain. Still, his master was perfectly safe.
"You... will not... touch him, creature!" The Majin pushed back against the dinosaur and sent it flying into a nearby cave wall, several stalactites falling from the ceiling and barely missing those in the chamber.
"Be careful, you fool! If you kill us or our subject, we won't exactly learn much of value, will we!?" Majin Excalibur winced at being chastised. He wasn't entirely sure what to do. He was far too strong to protect his master from this thing without killing it! What to do...
