What a beautiful afternoon it was in East City! Birds were singing, flowers were blooming- Nah, they weren't, of course. Instead of all that fairytale nonsense going on, East City was permeated by the usual urban cacophony of workers returning home and evacuating their frustration at fellow traffic drivers with a good push given at the steering wheel. All this chicanery didn't preclude Xiaolan to enjoy what East City had to offer, however. He found himself strolling down his favorite hood of the crime-riddled capitol: Little Korakuen. While it started as a residential neighborhood for the Papayan diaspora, it now involved a true melting pot of Southern Tropical cultures mingling with the local flair to produce one of the city's finest street foods.
Chicken stir fry with tropical fruits and local vegetables drizzled with a thick, glazy sweet sauce? Kami, Xiaolan lived for that crap! He weaved his way through pedestrians and shady alleyways alike, making his way to a restaurant concealed by an unmarked door -these are always the best ones- and run by a tight-knit family. Xiaolan discovered it a few years ago when hiding from the local police force after a hit involving a small arms dealer providing to one of the Triad's rival gangs went South. This big, generous styrofoam container bursting to the brim with sweet, greasy goodness reminding of home provided him with solace while laying low.
It was now a tradition: Each time Xioalan visited East City, he made sure to crash at that little joint for a heartwarming feast.
"BOWL OF CHICKEN STIR-FRY! YOU KNOW IT: EXTRA PINEAPPLE~" Xiaolan chimed in sync with the ringing bell announcing his presence past the doorstep. At this point, the owner knew the white-furred fox well. Even though he wasn't always under his foxy guise, his trademark clothes were unmistakable amongst even the busiest of crowds. Changpao's long sleeves were pulled back as the fox waited for his dish, taking a seat at the counter while sipping an imported Papayan beer and reading several years old news from a crumpled newspaper he was oh-too-familiar with.
The fox's snout began to twitch when the bowl came out from the kitchen. The food was piping hot, its mouthwatering scent causing Xiaolan to salivate. "THANK YOU!" He bowed both for the delicious food and gracious waitress, attacking his meal with a zest worthy of the one displayed in his toughest battles.
When Xiaolan was done, a second bowl was already on the way. The chopsticks he flourished with flamboyant deft were eagerly waiting for the second serving of goodness served on its bed of rice!
