Confusion. It spread through the offices of several megacomplexes like wildfire, their network access to Arcose’s interstellar connections severed. Mobile devices were inactive, unable to receive or send messages, and managers scrambled to keep calm, whilst being confused themselves. The executive offices high in the skyscrapers broke out of their midday malaise with their assistants bursting in to report the situation.
Outside, Verst stood atop a hover tank, its dual cannons held high in a parade stance, whilst Arcosian military troops assembled in front of many of the large buildings holding the corruption of the Empire within.
The tank commander hands Verst a microphone, as a camera bot hovers in front of him. His image appears over billboards and advertisements, and any televisual devices in the offices of the businesses. “People of the Oasis, I am Captain Verst, I hold a warrant granted by the Shield of Arcose himself. I have been gifted the mission of exterminating the corruption that has festered here for too long. As you are aware, some of your operations have already been brought to a halt and removed from the network. We hereby declare the following companies exempt from this crackdown.”
Verst rattles off a short list of a dozen names including the Zumat Company. “If your workplace, company or otherwise employer was NOT named, you will be required to exit your place of work and turn yourself over to the forces of the Empire that will be entering into your place of work. We do not seek to harm you, or your colleagues, we are here to bring the executives to justice, any attempts to aid them or hinder us will face harsh repercussions.” He spoke with justified authority, he was surrounded by Arcosian forces and their allies, finally, someone wanted to fix the planet and Ticoga had given him the honour.
The Captain spotted a helicopter attempting to take off from a roof, no doubt an example of the justice to come, would be sufficient. He dropped the microphone as he shot into the sky, the camera bot attempting to keep up with him. He flew as a streak across the rooftops as the craft made it into the air, before halting suddenly, the vehicle shook violently as it was carried to the street level. Verst had grabbed it by the spinning blade and arrested its movement. He ripped the door off as troops rushed onboard to remove the occupants and drag them to an armoured van in the middle of the convoy that moved mechanically into the middle of the commercial district.
“Bare no harm unto us, and we shall not harm you, otherwise…” Once it was emptied, Verst threw a fireball of ki at the helicopter, igniting it into a burning wreck. Panic shot through the unnamed corporations’ buildings as they scrambled to safety or surrender. Now was the time for a change. The Axe of Arcose had been called upon to make his first judgement and he had struck.
