“A quick favour,” she had said. Morrigan had the prior experience to be skeptical, but she wouldn’t say no to her sister. Lo and behold, eight hours and a troop of bandits later, Morrigan was holding a rabid wolf by the muzzle while her sister collected a cache of small blood rubies into a leather bag. Sith was looking far more pleased than her youngest sibling, who was only now able to pull back the hood of her shawl as the desert daylight began to fade to a gloam in the Skull Valley. Though a light burn still coloured her forearms. Slinging the bag over her shoulder, Sith looked to Morrigan and the beast she was handling, mildly amused by the display.
“I think that’s everything. Mighta lost track of time, but we can haul ass back to West City and crash at my place if you want.”
“I’ll pass,” Indifferent and vague, as she ever was. If they weren’t family it might have been concerning, but knowing her well, Sith only chuckled and waved Morrigan off. The older woman turned and began the hike out of the valley at a breakneck speed, leaving her younger sister alone. Save for the growling wolf who she didn’t think to count. Wrenching against the human’s grip, she watched for a few seconds before relenting enough that the beast could pull back. It snarled aggressively, but refrained from lunging as it failed to intimidate her.
They stared each other down for a time, nothing changing, until the wolf tucked its tail and turned around to sprint deeper into the valley. To reunite with its pack, she imagined. Hopefully not to try making a meal of her again. Perhaps she should have taken Sith up on her offer… Well, she could regret that while she found somewhere to camp, preferably out of the valley of corpses and tar. Though unlike her sister, she was in no hurry to rush into the fading light and began to stroll leisurely away.
