Yatapi didn’t expect much of a response from Lottus after that. The fact that Lottus even bothered to apologize to begin with was more than enough of a surprise. Rapini was right though, he was at least talking. Kind of. Maybe, sometimes... When it wasn’t about emotionally difficult things.
The two Saiyans conversed further, and it almost looked like the two intended to leave and go somewhere else. It wasn’t as though Yatapi intended to stop them, so he was happy to give the pair a wave and be on his way until the conversation took a sharp turn so quickly that the Tuffle didn’t even have time to lift a hand.
This time, Yatapi was stunned speechless to the point that practically every thought left his head at the same time. He picked up what Rapini had meant pretty quickly as well, and Lottus actually bawling his eyes out only made the situation worse. Then, Rapini was gone, totally and utterly gone.
What a cruel twist of fate this was.
While not a scientific reaction to these events, Yatapi did pray they got their round two. Something more than soldiers for someone else, something better than war and death, a normal life. Lottus, for all of his numerous flaws, was so far not the type to break a promise or go back on a deal— and if Rapini of all people was the one it involved then it made sense that this was one promise that Lottus would not dare to break.
While the remaining Saiyan went silent Yatapi stepped away and sat on one of the steps that lead into the gazebo. Was there anything that could be said to soften the impact of what just happened? Yatapi had no idea. “The ones that are loved, they are not just another tool in the shop, they never are.” Still, something slipped out anyway. Yatapi angrily ruffled his own hair and grumbled, hanging his head down having realized he said something probably idiotic out loud. “Ugh, Yatapi shut up...”
