Monci took a deep breath, looking at his reflection in the mirror. Yet again, he made sure his outfit was proper and in order, making himself presentable to the chancellor. It was not everyday that he could gain an audience with such an important figure and given the topic he wished to discuss, suffice to say he had to make sure every little detail was impeccable.
The recent events in Hatchi City, coupled with the change in Saiyan leadership made several people, himself included, wary about the future. Some wanted reparations despite not having any leverage to make such demands, others simply lowered their heads and took the hit and finally, there were the few actually wanting to put their foot down. There were a lot of questions and insecurities and even Monci had trouble finding the best possible solution in all of this, but there was one element he was sure of. Tuffles couldn’t rely on external factors to ensure their safety anymore. They couldn’t live on the edge of their seat like that, waiting for the next Saiyan to have a bad day and start thrashing their cities again.
He held still for a moment, not letting these intrusive thoughts get the better of him. CLosing his eyes, he composed himself for a moment, sitting in front of the doors leading to Chancellor Cheri’s office. The attendant escorting him knocked two times, waiting a second before saying:
“Chancellor, your next appointment is here.”
A few more seconds and the doors opened and Monci entered the room. Folder in hand, he remained upright, standing before her.
“A pleasure to meet you, Chancellor. I believe this is the first time we get to speak like that. I’m Monci, a researcher tied to many laboratories in Hatchi. My field of expertise is alternative & uncommon energy sources and their applications. I do wish we could have met on a…less controversial topic.”
He paused, dissatisfied with his approach, almost conceding that the topic he wished to discuss was contentious.
“Please, let me cut to the chase.”
His look became fierce and determined.
“I believe it is in our best interest to resume research on Destron. Not because we need a strong weapon to fight off the Saiyans, not because we need to be ready in case of yet another attack on their part, but because Destron, in its current state, remains incomplete.”
That sure was a mouthful. He expected firm opposition, making him refrain from going into more details from the get-go. The Chancellor was no fool and had witnessed its horrors firsthand. He even understood the ban when it first came around. However, now that the war was mostly settled, there was time to further optimize and complete Destron.
