On the outskirts of Hatchi City, a cloudy day.
A floating target stood still, hovering about two meters above the ground. Standing about twenty meters away, a small figure stood still, one arm extended towards the target. The next moment, a beam of pitch-black energy was fired, missing its target just barely. From the recoil, the Tuffle was sent back about a meter back, falling on his back. He remained in that position for a little while before getting himself in a sitting position, looking at his arm that just fired the energy beam.
His clothes were plain, indistinguishable from anyone else. His arm, however, was covered by a gauntlet of some sort, a work of technological art, a true Tuffle’s craftsmanship. He pressed a few buttons and the tightly fit gauntlet became loose, enabling its wearer to remove it. Reaching for a toolbox nearby, he began tinkering away at it, mumbling to himself.
“No good, no good…The anti-recoil isn’t properly calibrated, stabilizers are offset…about three degrees…condensators aren’t doing their job…”
He left the mechanized gauntlet on the ground, taking a moment to remove his glasses and rub his tired eyes. A couple of power cells, emptied out from previous attempts, sat at his feet. This was much more complicated than he had anticipated. Calculations and parameters were all set, but it failed to translate properly in practice. After all, he wasn’t an expert in weaponry. He simply used his knowledge of his field of study and improvised himself a fighter. That being said, if he were to stop here, then all would be in vain.
“Alright, let’s get back to it…”
He put his glasses back on, worked for a few minutes on the weapon before putting it back on. Steadying himself, he prepared to shoot. Yet another beam, but this time, it chunked the target in half! As for the recoil, he managed to stay on his feet, this time. There was room for improvement, but there was progress!
