It was another, typical night at the Midas Lounge. In other words, a busy one. The hotel and it's adjoining casino were abuzz of activity. Tourists to the region were enjoying the games, seeking to make their fortune, though most people ended up leaving with less than what they came in with. And if it wasn't the games taking the people's money, the drinks and the shows certainly would. The lounge had a little something very everyone, and it didn't skimp when it came to expenses.
Indeed, Flip's personal motto had been to make sure everyone wins. Only it was a matter of making sure he won more than others. But as long as everyone was satisfied, everyone was happy. And those who weren't were free to take it up with security.
Right now, the man was sitting in his own private suite, in the upper most floor of the hotel, which also doubled as his office. While the man lived a glamorous life, it also came with a lot of work, and right now he was going over various pieces of paperwork, both for the casino, and for some of his more...less well known businesses.
Little did he know he would be getting a visitor this evening. One of the most unexpected short.
Thread PL: 100,000 | Items: ScouterUnder most circumstances, Derry would simply wipe this place off of the planet and be done with it all, but now he can't possibly afford such a move, not when his gang is already behind.
Despite being the president of Earth and having as much political power as he desired, the Dirty Snakes were at a worse state than ever before. Many of the key members and elites that were once a part of the organization had either defected, died, vanished, or some combination of those reasons. With a severe lack of powerful individuals to steer the organization on top of Derry's busy schedule as president, the Dirty Snakes have suffered from a severe lack of leadership. Try as he might, Derry just couldn't find anyone who had any sort of potential to assist in running their own jobs inside of the group, making him more and more desperate for trying to find those that can assist him.
The president had been aware of a man by the name of Flip Fortuna for quite a while now, being a bit of a rival crime boss in his own right, even going so far as to own his very own casino hotel over on Papaya Island. Derry had made sure that he stayed away from the public eye until it was time to shine as president, but it seems like Mister Fortuna had a different approach. Under most circumstances, this would be the time that Derry would intimidate someone like Fortuna into submission to the Dirty Snakes or to just outright get rid of his empire, but with his many concerns about the Dirty Snakes' strength at the moment, those options are far out of the window.
After making his way inside of the building and asking around for the boss, all the while giving the excuse that he has some important political business with Flip, Derry is soon directed to a personal suite on the very top floor of the casino. The man approaches the door and knocks on the door, waiting a few seconds before asking, "Is Mister Fortuna present? I have some important business to discuss with him." At the very least, Derry can take this meeting as an opportunity to measure just what kind of man Flip is, and perhaps more importantly, how powerful he might be. He presses a button on the side of his scouter sunglasses to begin recording for any major power levels in the vicinity, eager to pick up on some potential heavy hitters.

"Um, Mr Fortuna sir?"
Still glancing at the paperwork in front of him, Flip pressed the button on the intercom. "Yes? What is it?" "Sir, um, the president is here to see you sir." "President of what?" Probably some corporate upstart wanting to talk business. "Of Earth sir. The president of Earth is HERE and he wants to talk to you."
Flip paused, setting down the paper and looking at the intercom, trying to process what he just heard. The president of Earth was here? Why would he be here? Flip shook his head. It didn't matter. What mattered was that the man was here. "Well what are you waiting for? Send him up!"
And so, when Derry knocked at the door to his apartment, he would be greeted by the man himself, answering the door with a charming smile. "Mr President. What a pleasant surprise, and I mean that sincerely. Please, come on in." He stepped back, allowing the man to enter. He had seen the man on tv a couple of times, but seeing the man in person gave Flip the impression there was far more to him than just his position. The man certainly had a sense of power to him. Definitely someone Flip would need to be careful with. And despite Flip's flashy persona, the man was certainly careful when it came to matters of importance.
The inside of Flip's suite was rather stylish, showing off a feeling of luxury. Flip was a man who enjoyed the finer things in life, and wasn't afraid to show it. He made his way over to a wooden liquor cabinet. "Can I get you anything sir? A drink perhaps? Or I can have the kitchen prepare something for you." Flip wanted to be a good host to this most prestigious guest. He flashed him another smile. "Or perhaps you'd like to get straight to business?"

The door swings open, and Flip himself was there to answer Derry's request to hop in. The president gives the crime lord a little smirk and responds, "Gladly. I figured it was about time I paid Flip Fortuna a visit. I've been meaning to come over for quite some time, but now my schedule has opened up a bit." Derry steps right inside of Flip's room and takes in the room's décor, with a grand sense of luxury and whatnot, which was to be anticipated. Of course, sheer wealth and expensive furniture wasn't enough, and style was a far more important factor. Thankfully, the room doesn't drown its guests in snobby wealth and knows restraint when needed.
The two make their way over toward a cabinet containing many different bottles of liquor as Flip offers a drink or food to the president, to which he holds his hand up and explains, "Oh no, I don't drink. At least, not often. And I'm all covered on food myself, but I thank you for the offer. I do believe that business is what I want to just dive right into." Derry leans his right shoulder onto the liquor cabinet as he takes in the room a bit more, all before continuing, "Now, you're probably wondering what sort of business I even have with you, Flip. I assure you, it's a prospect I think we can both profit off of."
"You see, being president has many perks. Political power, authority, excuses, the lots. There's just so much freedom in these sorts of departments that I've been taking full advantage of, let me assure you. On the other hand, things have been... Let's just say things back at home haven't been doing too well. While I've been advancing my political career and using that power to its full potential, the Dirty Snakes have taken a few hits over the course of the past year or so. I trust you're familiar with the Snakes, correct?"

Oh? He had gotten the president's attention long ago? A brief moment of worry ran through Flip, if perhaps he had learned of his more criminal activities. But he kept that worry from his face, maintaining the same charming smile. The president turned down his offers for food and drink, instead wanting to get right to the heart of the matter. "Straight to business huh? I can respect that."[/b] So, this was something that could benefit both of them? Now he was certainly curious, if a little wary.
Then came up a name he certainly didn't expect to hear. The Dirty Snakes. Oh, he was aware of them. Another criminal faction here on Earth, and a rather prominent one too. Though Flip had made it the case to give them a wide birth. "Indeed I have sir, though I make it a point to...wait..." Everything was quickly clicking into place. For a brief moment his eyes widened, before he threw back his head and let out a laugh. Not a mocking or cruel laugh, but the good natured laugh of one who just learned something very funny. "My oh my, I knew all politicians were crooks, but you my friend take it to another level." Imagine, the president of Earth himself was the head of the Dirty Snakes.
Flip took a deep breath to try and calm himself before smiling at the president. "But as I was saying, I make it a point to try and stay out of their affairs, and in turn I hope they keep out of mine." As the conversation ran back over in his mind, his smile widened slightly. "But, I get the feeling that's about to change. Am I right, Mr. President?"
Under most circumstances Derry would be more than willing to take people's offers for food and drink since he doesn't have to pay for the stuff, but in this case he must decline. The business was quite important to discuss, and he doesn't want to be distracted by anything else. Once the two of them got situated, Flip answers Derry's initial inquiry by mentioning that he has heard of the Dirty Snakes before, but eventually makes the connection that the president of Earth, the very man sitting in his room, is also the leader of the criminal organization. It's a surprisingly well-kept secret, though given everything that's been happening Derry wouldn't be surprised if that cat got out of the bag soon. Time is running short on him, after all.
"You are correct, Mister Fortuna," Derry responds to Flip's own question regarding the neutrality the two have shared with each other. "See, I pride myself on organization, and petty criminals and whatnot are... Well, I have a certain distaste for them. I seek to crush them should they not fall in line, but you Flip... You're different, of course. Order within the group is key to avoid falling into the chaos of criminality, and it's something I've always appreciated and why I keep my nose out of your business, at least usually." Derry takes a moment to sigh as his gaze trails off, taking in everything that's going on over at the Snakes HQ.
"Unfortunately the time has come when I do need to speak up. I don't know how familiar you are with how the group runs, but I don't run the show all the time. We've got what I call elites there, powerful individuals who run their own operations for the group's benefit while getting their own cut. Lately, however, many of them have either wound up dead, vanished, or have stabbed me in the back. One leaving isn't much of an issue, but multiple? There's a big problem right there." He recounts all of the elites that have come and gone with the organization, and it's still hard to come to the realization that he's practically close to being alone.
"This is why I need your assistance, Mister Fortuna. I'm running out of men. Now I ain't exactly asking for you to join the gang unless you actually do want to hop on the train, which I wouldn't stop you. No, I'm more so asking for a bit of cooperation. An alliance, perhaps. I could perhaps use some of my personal presidential powers to give you a bit of a boost, and in return you could run the occasional errand for me. I've got a few in mind myself, actually."

Flip nodded quietly as Derry explained his situation. Indeed crime, TRUE crime, was a well run business. Sure, it was easy to smash a store, to shoot someone, or whatnot. Any idiot could do that. But such people also didn't last long. If you wanted to be profitable, if you wanted to be successful, you needed to be smart about it. You needed a good, keen business sense. To know when to act and when not to. That's what seperated people like Flip and Derry to other criminals. They both possessed that instinct. Though it seemed Derry here had taken it a step further. President of Earth!
Though it certainly wasn't without its drawbacks. With his attention focused on running the planet, The Dirty Snakes had fallen into disarray, with his lieutenants either disappearing or leaving. Now, any crime boss would take this as an admission of weakness. A chance to potentially take down a rival, or to hold power over the man before them. But, again, Flip wasn't any crime boss. He had enough common sense to know that picking fights with the president of Earth was a terrible idea. After all, there was a reason why he felt comfortable enough to come to him and ASK for his assistance, rather than simply demand it.
Flip gave Derry a smile. "Well now, I don't see any reason to turn this down. In all honesty, I would be an absolute fool to do so. Consider your offer accepted Mr. President." Flip gave a good natured chuckle, "Now then, what are these errands that you speak of? I'm sure I can accommodate you."
Derry couldn't help but smile just a little bit when Flip agrees to his proposal, sated that someone is finally going to give him some proper assistance. His pool of allies, especially those with close ties to the Snakes, has been on a massive decline, and any way to spike up activity is more than welcome. "Excellent. I have a few things in mind for you, Mister Fortuna, but allow me to clarify a few things. I'm sure you and your boys have been a bit... affected by my establishment of the Accords. Well, now that you're offering me assistance, I'll just have to give a special note to some of the police to... Let's just say, look in the other direction."
The president leans forward to rest his arms on top of Flip's desk before continuing, "As for what I have in mind, there are a few things that I need taken care of. First, I've got a bit of a business relationship with the big honcho, Sal Anders over at the South City Bank, but he's recently been getting a bit too cocky. Thinks he can shorten my personal payments because of 'rumors' that the Snakes have been on the decline. Perhaps a hit at his bank is what is needed to get the idea that I'm not to be trifled with across to him. You don't need to steal anything big, just enough to get his attention. How you wanna go about that is up to you, but what matters is that you don't kill Sal if he's there."
"There's also some information to be on the lookout for. I've gotten a feeling that some people have been snooping about my business for quite some time now. Trying to get some dirt on me, or something along those lines. I want you and your men to keep your ears open, see if there's anyone looking into me and my connection to the Snakes. I don't know who thinks they can get away with it, but it won't last long. Not on my watch, and neither on yours, I hope."
Derry begins to rub the back of his neck before clarifying, "I do have more jobs for you, but I wanna see what you're made of first, and if you can handle this sort of thing. I'll give you a new assignment once our dear friend Sal gets the point across. If there's any information you need regarding Sal, the bank, or the job itself, now's the time to ask questions." He doesn't doubt that Fortuna would be able to cause a bit of a stir over in South City, and Sal should be rather easy to scare into submission. The question that Derry wants to ask is if someone will show up at the bank. Perhaps someone looking to violate the Accords? Someone looking to perform vigilante justice?
