Ever since his return to Namek, Gandigan had found himself increasingly craving for something he couldn't name. Most his people survived off of water, but that wasn't nearly enough for the Mazoku. He needed something more, and so in his desperation he turned to meat, including the flesh of his own kind. It was certainly a step up, though the obvious taboos around the practice meant that it wasn't something he could always get his hands on.
Namek did have something else to offer him: The Ajisa fruit. He had tried it before, and found it sorely lacking in anything his body desired, however in his ignorance he had not realized that the Namekian people had vastly expanded upon their crops, now including fruits and vegetables from other species. Any one of these items could be just what he was looking for: a way to calm his hunger in the absence of more controversial meals. Now all Gandigan had to worry about was getting his hands on them.
If he were any other Namekian, living among the villages of his people, he likely wouldn't have anything to worry about. He could simply walk up to them and ask, as probably get what he wanted. Things for Gandigan weren't like that however; he wasn't sure how much trust his people would have in an outsider such as himself. With that in mind Gandigan was going to have to resort to stealing, which after everything else he had done wasn't that much of a burden on his conscious.
Swooping down to the fields, Gandigan would first set up the destruction by setting a small home on the edge of the crop fields alight, with the explosion hopefully loud enough to draw the other farmers away. From there he would sprint into the fields, tearing out as many crops as he could hold in his arms.
