INTO THE LIGHT

It had been a long time since Ramen had to openly reveal herself on Namek. The need for secrecy had long faded, in truth--there was nobody looking for her now. But isolation became a habit, and habits were hard to break. Especially for someone well into old age. Namek was not always as peaceful as it was supposed, and the Northern Scar had always posed a threat to travelers. It was nothing that Namekian warriors couldn't handle on their own, but today--they seemed strangely absent. Perhaps an observance somewhere else on the planet. Perhaps a distraction.
In the end, it didn't matter.
Ramen made her way along a ruinous patch of rock, surrounded by two flows of live magma, still bubbling up from when the scar was created before she had ever stepped foot on the planet. There was a threat here--one she had sensed from her refuge. It took her nearly an hour of searching as the energy source seemed to flit from island to island, weaving in and out of caverns and tunnels. But it wasn't running from her--it was hunting.
Finally, she came to the edge of the Scar, where the lush grassland of Namek began to breathe life into the bleak countryside. There, she saw it--it was no Namekian, nor was it a Mazoku mutant. It stood on two legs, covered in matted and bristled hair, with prominent horns protruding above cold, yellow eyes. There was no mistaking what this was--a demon, somehow loose from its war-torn realm. But this wasn't one of the intelligent demons that stalked among the living, carving out their own lives on the mortal plane--this was a creation of pure malice and sin. It had been created by someone, for some purpose, yet had somehow gone astray.
Before Ramen could act, the great monster leapt at her. She had to react quickly, shoving off on one foot to let its weight crash down to the earth next to her, just shy of her target. Gripping the base of her staff, she sprung around and brought the full weight of the walking stick-turned-weapon onto the back of the creature's skull. In an instant, it fell unconscious. She nearly choked on the air as she tried to inspect it, the smell of sulfur thick around the creature.
"We'll leave you for the Namekians to investigate," she murmured under her breath. "This isn't my place."
With that, she lifted her hand into the sky and fired off a single burst of red energy -- when it reached the cloudless sky above, it burst into hundreds of streaking shards, before fading from sight. Someone might see it, or perhaps they would sense it. Either way, they would come this way, and the problem would be out of her hands for good.
