Cato made a face as she turned to the fish fillet, abandoning the half-finished soup for the time being. She knew that Lottus was right, but it was another one of those things that was easier said than internalized.
"I get it," she said, with a little huff of a sigh. "But it's hard to only have one yardstick when you see new, terrifying powers every other day. I thought Vocado was strong, and then I thought you were strong, and then I met Brumal and Ise. Compared to them, most of us here seem fairly mediocre."
"But, they're not going to wait for me to catch up. Neither would you. So either I need to train harder, or... I don't know what else besides that."
Cato frowned down at her plate, the wheels still turning in her head. The list of names Lottus listed off was surprisingly familiar to her. She was fairly certain she had met most of them, although her meeting with Dark hadn't been the most friendly experience given it had come during one of her uncontrolled transformations.
"Well, I don't know about mountain ranges or summits," she finally spoke. "But I guess I'll keep all of that in mind. I do wonder, sometimes, how strong I might be now if I had of come home to Plant years earlier. Fighting in the war as a teenager might have made me a different person, and maybe not for the best--but I didn't really get stronger until I came in contact with powers beyond mine."
She glanced across at Lottus, tilting her head to one side.
"Is your path to the top of that, ah, summit--is that because of your innate competitiveness, your battle-lust--I guess your Saiyan blood, if we want to put it like that, or is it because you want to achieve things before you, erm..."
She trailed off. She felt better not speaking the conclusion.
