There was clarity, despite the chaos. Howls in his mind could be subdued. Rage could be comforted. And for a brief moment, while Kalabas offered caution and Jackie pushed for peace, the calm came.
In this brief moment, he touched the scouter on his face. It’d grown with him; a nice perk of recent upgrades after the war. Those among the Tuffles who found interest in working alongside their Saiyan aggressors had brought along some bountiful technology.
Subtly, the scouter had begun recording. Something he’d forgotten to do when the battle began proper. A holdover from his paranoid entry into the wastes, he supposed.
In the moments after, he was attacked on two fronts. From Amara, his attack was rebounded, and from Derry, the dazzling flames of a furious leader. His arms came up to defend himself, but it was not enough. The explosion was mighty, and Vocado was sent hurtling backwards. Smoke and falling rubble clouded him. Could it perhaps be that he was defeated already?
In the rage, there lied deviousness. Deceit and dubious intentions. He did truly believe, in the depths of his heart, that Amara and Derry, perhaps even Jackie were here for less-than-noble causes, but he knew that things were not so simple. The word of second-in-command was not as strong as that of a world leader.
But actions? Those were plenty powerful evidence.
With a sharp motion, he sliced a finger across the side of his scouter, knocking clean one of the plates that held wiring within. A bright green wire was frayed by his action. Though it could still record, there would be no audio. Another wire cut, and now that video would be of poor quality. No reading lips; no thick discussion among the public. All they’d know is that the clearest visual would be Amara, a former Royal, and Derry, the president of earth, attacking with enough force to down an Oozaru and wound his equipment.
Would this be enough evidence to make the galactic populace think the Saiyans were in the right? Of course not. But it was all he needed to embolden the Saiyans themselves. Revenge was a powerful motivator for war.
The Oozaru tore through the rubble, roaring as he did.
Burns and scrapes littered his body. Blood-stained patches of hair coated him, and his armor and scouter had clearly both seen better days.
”You vie for this to reach a peaceful resolution, Earthling?”
His eyes turned to Jackie, bloodlust causing the red to tremble within the sockets. He could feel the rage returning in droves.
”It’s clear to me now. Their intention is to enforce their will, regardless of the ones who disagree. Perhaps they truly wish to clean the Destron, but you can see the problem, can’t you? Skulking into the crags without permission… Bringing the leader of a galactically recognized sovereign world? There’s more to it.”
Surprisingly eloquent, for a beast. It was the only way he could articulate, though. Forcing himself to access the higher portions of his brain. To use proper language was to deny the oozaru’s base instincts, and it seemed to be working.
But the pain in his chest burned his blood. The Great Ape wanted vengeance. Between panting breaths, he felt a different kind of pain, too. Something sticky and gross in his maw. Black sludge had begun to ooze from between his teeth. Amara’s attack, perhaps?
”If they wanted a peaceful resolution, they’d have sought it out immediately. Amara could easily have stood down. Derry could easily have retreated, or gone through the proper channels before all this. Tell me, Earthling, if King Taori snuck to a junkyard or a desert on your world, started ‘fixing’ things on a world he had no place on, would you not find it suspicious?”
His head jerked, and the pain forced a howl out of him.
”Such… Folly! If you truly wish to find peace, Earthling, then stay out of my way and allow me to deal with these intruders. Unless you wish to help me deport your world’s leader of course.”
Ki erupted, burning away the sludge with effort. His maw, open wide, loosed another wave of powerful energy. Amara wouldn’t be able to dodge this time, but her cavalcade of friends could surely save her some trouble.
”Kalabas! Subdue the girl and I’ll pay you double! She must not be allowed to use her magic!”
