Dr. Faith Pope was a woman who seemed under a perpetual burden of stress at all times, even though she did her very best to hide it. The forty-something blonde woman with pale blue eyes pulled a handkerchief from the pocket of her stained labcoat and used them, yet again, to try and shine up the workstation in her laboratory to a brighter gleam.
Faith had been a woman driven by passion for decades. She was world-renowned for her work in cybernetics; she had cracked the code that helped integrate the nervous system with artificial prosthetics and shortened rehabilitation time by years. Her replacement organs and body parts had saved countless lives, and she had saved even more personally in the operating theatre. She was well-respected in the medical establishment of Earth, and even a few off-worlders knew her name.
But none of that meant that she could stop worrying about funding. Even moreso when she had been told that the World Government had taken an interest in her research into the Infinite Hope Engine. The device that literally harnessed emotion and turned it into power. Even she couldn't explain everything that the Infinite Hope Engine had achieved for her young patient, and honestly... the interest of the government scared her.
They hadn't cared when she was only saving lives, but now that she had created something which had the potential to take them, they'd demanded a meeting.
Tiara herself was present too of course, and the blue-haired sixteen year old looked nervous. Dressed in her school uniform, she tried not to look at the presentation and displays that had been set up around the room, but that was challenging. It showed her as she was when she was presented to the care of Dr. Pope. The horrific sight of her injuries was, disturbing. She had been told to expect that she would never walk again. She hadn't even been able to lift her hands. The truck that hit her should have killed her, but it was only her stubborn refusal to give up hope which had kept her clinging on to a body that had to be replaced in its entirety, piece by piece, over months.
But the charts that were likely to be most of interest to this particular audience were the ones on her 'power level'. The measurement that warriors the galaxy over used to gauge approximate fighting potential. Before her conversion into an android, Tiara had stood at a relatively paltry 3. She was just a teenager, after all.
Now, that power was growing exponentially. After the surgery it rested at six thousand. Then thirty thousand when she transformed. Now twelve thousand with a recorded maximum of sixty thousand just a few short weeks later. That kind of growth in a girl with no martial training whatsoever could not be ignored.
"Are you sure you're okay, Tiara?" Faith asked, for the dozenth time, "You really don't have to be here if you are uncomfortable."
Tiara made herself smile, and look the older woman in the eye. "It's okay, Faith." She said, brightly. "You need this to go well or things would be difficult for you, right? It's the least I could do. Anyway, who wouldn't want to meet the President? Have you seen him on TV? His hair is amazing!"
Faith didn't answer, nor did she keep looking the girl in the eye. She didn't like this. Tiara was a sweet kid. Innocent. This did not feel right...
