Mint was heading to meet the new leader of Earth. The President election had occurred and really they were not many good candidates from what he heard. The one who one was a man named Derry. And that meant he was going to go meet him. Yes, that was what he planned to do. He represented Arcose, he was one of the top member of the courts. That didn't mean he exactly spoke for Azoth but he had enough sway to do his thing. And he always would love to gauge the president strength and his backbone. Knowing Azoth if he saw a weak leader he may insert himself into the political sphere of the planet. It was somewhat was planned to occur on plant. A side with two wars with neither side having a leader that controlled the planet. So if the leader was earth, maybe he'd give the same advice. Assert himself on the planet to make sure it actually had a good leader but also one that would follow what needed to be done to fill to Azoth's agenda. If the leader was some vile and cruel man then he'd have to do his duty and warn his emperor to deal with that situation. But for now he was just walking to meet the newly elected president in his office.
Thread PL: 70,000 | Items: ScouterIt felt strange at first entering the King's Castle at first, but now it's something the boss can really get used to.
Derry had finally achieved his dream of becoming the most powerful man in the world, now possessing the ability to shape the world as he sees fit so long as he has the patience to seek it out and not overdo it all at once. They were still a democracy, after all, and funds haven't exactly been coming in just yet from the brand new heists just yet. Given some time he'll be sure to pass some new legislation, mostly concerning lowering taxes on the rich folks. Public might not be super happy about it, but he could always shift the budget around to work on projects the people might actually care about while the Dirty Snakes plunder whatever brand new coin will now lie in the rich's pockets.
Now he has to deal with more paperwork...
Thankfully having a secretary this time around certainly makes it all the more tolerable, but the president was looking to get some sort of break from the monotony, and it wasn't exactly night time just yet. Thankfully his chance finally arrives when a voice on the intercom informs him that there's apparently some visitor looking to meet up with Derry, some guy who works under the emperor of Arcose, Azoth. Hopefully he doesn't have any sort of grand speech relating to just how great he is, he's gotten plenty of that sort of talk from the man himself already, he doesn't need another self-righteous arcosian trotting in here going on about how great he is. Oh well, it beats paperwork, he supposes. "Let him in," Derry grumbles.
Mint was let into the room after a few moments. Guess the president didn’t have too much if he didn’t have to wait too long. Mint would step inside looking at the pink haired human. He had a stout build to him. He glanced at the scouter getting a read of his power. <70,000!> Mint gawked at the number on the scouter. Now that was an impressive number! He was very strong. “Well what a surprise. I was expecting someone far weaker. A book worm maybe. But guess in this era humans need leadership that is not only strong but smart. Good.” Mint would take a seat looking at Derry. “I assume I can sit. I suppose I should have asked. I am Mint. I work for the Arcosian Empire. Diplomat, counselor, henchman whatever you wanna call me in that regard you can. I was hoping to meet you since it would be good to create a strong foundation between Earth and Arcose. The more we can have a peaceful world the better. I hope you agree on that.” Mint was not sure the type of person this Derry was. So he just started doing what Azoth would want he imagined. And then once he learned the type of man he was maybe he ask some other things, that related more to himself.
The doors to Derry's office open up, and the man is greeted by the arcosian, sporting an interesting color contrast with a few different shades of blue, though most eye-catching was his height, standing less than 5 feet tall. Sure arcosians can transform and their height varies greatly whenever they do so, but to see one this small is a bit amusing. Still, he gives the man a quick scan with his scouter sunglasses, the results coming in at around 56,000. Not bad, not bad at all. Surely this one must be some high ranking individual in Azoth's court, but if that's the case Derry isn't exactly looking forward to having to speak to another pompous arcosian.
The arcosian comments about Derry's own strength, expecting some sort of book worm instead of an actually capable fighter, which was certainly a bit of a step up from Azoth's introduction. He takes a seat before apologizing as he didn't ask to sit down, something that the president wasn't exactly bothered by. Derry waves it off and states, "No troubles, no troubles at all." This arcosian is apparently named Mint, and thankfully he started just talking about improving relations between Arcose and Earth instead of chattering about how grand he is. At the very least Mint knows his place.
"Oh I'll agree to that any day of the week, Mint," Derry replies, "Your emperor has already extended out an olive branch to me for peace, but now that I have the power to do something about this, we can get started." Derry raises his scouter sunglasses and rests them on top of his head as he continues, "Mmm, perhaps before we get things rolling a bit, I do have a curious question for you in regards to your Emperor. What are your thoughts on the man?" Before he could go any further, he needs to know this guy's relationship with Azoth, whether he doesn't care for the man, would die for the emperor, or if there's something that might hint at a bit of deception. It'll determine how he proceeds from here with the peace talk.
Seems he didn't much care that he sat in the spot. Did he superseded his authority or he really just didn't care that he was going sit and take his spot. Whatever the case, it didn't bother Mint all that much. If this was the start of their mental fencing, well he was already engaged before he even entered the door. It also seemed that right away they were on the same page about creating peace. That was the goal afterall. And Azoth had already meet with Derry to make peace. This being before the man had become leader. So guess Azoth had been dipping his toes in the political situation of not just plant. Trying to influence who would become its leader. If Derry had come up to snuff would Azoth of tried to make some other human lead the planet. It was a thought he had to at least consider.
Derry then asked him a good question, and what his thoughts were on Emperor Azoth. Mint grinned lightly. "Oh you wanna know. Guess you want a better idea about him from someone close to him. But do you really think I'd spill that much about him? No, because it can get back to him. If he heard my full analysis of him he may have some problems with it. But lets start with the basics thing. He is a well meaning man. Emperor Azoth wants to create a peaceful empire that is in his vision. But at the same time he has to understand that others may not fully agree with his stance. I image for example your people would not want to play second fiddle to him. There has be an alliance of strength, everyone has an equal share. Though I think for him, he more see himself the leader of that change, as opposed to a leader of change. I image that be your concern about him yes?" Lets see if he was reading this right.
The arcosian sitting in front of Derry smiled a bit the moment he asked about his feelings regarding his dear emperor, though as he expected he isn't willing to share just about everything in regards to their information. It seems Mint has done this little song and dance plenty of times, and doesn't exactly want his true feelings regarding Azoth out in the open for other leaders to hear. He goes on about all of the basics, how he's some well meaning guy, someone who likes peace, blah blah blah, but at the very least he started diving into something a bit more savory, rightfully calling out his dear emperor's arrogance.
Then Mint hit it right on the money, the arcosian believing that Azoth's reach throughout the galaxy and becoming a much larger influence on the other planets stands as a bit of a threat to Derry. He's rather impressed by Mint's little deduction, and smiles back at him before stating, "Well, you're damn right about that. Pardon my words, Mint, but your emperor seems to think he's all high and mighty, that he should dictate what occurs throughout the galaxy. I haven't heard much about the other major planets such as Namek or Plant, but I can only imagine that your leader might have some similar plans for them as well."
He repositions himself in his seat and stares right into Mint's eyes before continuing, "If Azoth truly wants to have an alliance with Earth, with Plant, with Namek, then he must realize that we possess individuality as well. I cannot speak on behalf of the Saiyan Monarch, the Tuffles, or the Namekians, but I can assure you that Earth has its own interests that don't always line up with Arcose's. Now with any other ruler that might seem understandable, but with Azoth I can't help but feel it's a bit... different."
He takes a few quick glances around the room the two are in before reaching below his desk, muttering to the arcosian, "Excuse me for just one second," before pressing a single button. At that moment all of the windows are immediately shielded by solid metal gates while the doors are locked behind him. A somewhat loud thud can be heard on the other side of each door and Derry leans back in his chair, stating, "I've heard the previous president only really used this for emergencies, but I think it's better suited for a bit more privacy. Figures that the two of us should be the only ones listening in on a conversation such as this."
He hit the nail right on the head. As expected, this man was worried about what Azoth would do. He had this complex of being the strongest. Of course he was and some might say might makes right. But Azoth was trying to use his mind to make right. But he imaged in any situation his might would be used as that extra motive. Either listen to his words or you may anger him into combat. But this human had a lot of strength himself, he was sure he could fight Azoth but win? No that wouldn't happen. He was quite sure Azoth was the strongest being in the universe. "Well we have of course looked into the situation on plant. We have our hands on the ground. But that is merely because the two factions are fighting. Can't have peace with an intergalactic war. Our goal is to hopefully allow both sides to come to peaceful terms. The aggressive side would also incur the rather of the Emperor Azoth. I image this is info you have a basic understanding of or assumed." Maybe he didn't but to create good alliance you share this type of information.
Derry then continued yes each planet had their own goals. Ones that maybe would not be in line with dear Emperor's Azoth's. He would have to recognize that was the case and allow them to do as they pleased in that regard. Or else peace would not be possible. "I think it be foolish to expect everything Arcose wants to line up with Earths. We have our own goals and aspirations. I do feel Emperor Azoth is very understanding of that. Of course there something he want that he won't bend on. However, I can assure you he is not uncompromising."
But as he finished this Derry seemed to have to do something for a moment. With a single button solid metal gates formed around the windows and a solid door so no one could enter without some force. "Oh you wanna keep this very on the low. I see. We should be the only two listening to this. But if were gonna take in the nitty gritty business." Mint glanced around the room looking for any camera's or listening devices. "you wanna remove anything that would let you record these things. I don't want this to be private if only you hold the leverage." Mint cracked a wide grin. "That is the business that was I in yes. A private meeting in your own hall? That what I'd do. Cameras to record a conversation to keep for latter usage." He would see if Derry would remove these things if he had them at all. If so they could really get down to business.
Mint begins to talk about Azoth's plans with Plant and how he's already starting to dip his toes into the whole civil war situation over on Plant. It seems like such a noble goal, coming into a civil war to smooth things over with both sides, but Derry wasn't exactly the biggest fan of this move. He's got a contract with the tuffles, so as long as peace is made between the two, he'll get his money. However, Azoth interfering in their affairs is rather concerning for the president, Derry starting to think that maybe this is more than just simply ending a feud between two species, but rather an attempt to bring them into his little empire. It might seem like a sort of alliance, similar to what he's promised with Earth, but he very much has doubts in regards to Azoth's true motivations, good natured or not.
"Ah, it's a brutish conflict, isn't it?" Derry comments, "But I'm not so sure about Azoth forcefully intervening in Plant's affairs. Sure, stopping a bloody conflict sounds quite noble of him, that much is certain, but he likely isn't aware of the full situation there. What happens after the war is what I'm especially concerned about."
Derry is rather doubtful of Mint's little reassurance about Azoth, the arcosian believing that his emperor would be quite understanding if their goals don't ultimately line up completely. From what Mint said earlier and his earlier interaction with the emperor himself, there's very much a possibility that what he's saying is the truth of the matter, but his interference with the civil war on Plant wasn't exactly helping his case. "I presume most people would be very understanding that different planets have different goals. I'm simply more concerned about your emperor's willingness to allow other goals to thrive, or if he desires to intervene as well."
By the time Derry shut the entire office down, Mint asks the president as to whether or not he has any sort of recording devices around to save the conversation for later usage. The arcosian is a smart one alright, always wanting to at the very least stay on even ground with the most powerful man on Earth. He too cracks a grin and replies, "The cameras are shut down during this process as well, don't you worry. There is only one real recording device that does remain active, however," he says as he reaches into one of the drawers of his desk, revealing a small device with a blinking light. "This little guy gets turned on automatically in emergency lockdowns." With a flick of a small switch behind the device, the flashing light stops and Derry places it down onto the table. "Now it's just the two of us."
Mint nodded as Derry pointed out his concerns. The tuffle and saiyan fighting it out, would it be best for Azoth to step in and do something about the conflict. He even noted that he was probably not fully aware of the conflict that was going on. “Hence where I come in Mr. President.” Mint grinned letting the word roll off his tongue. “I observed the planet and gave him my advice of course. Currently our goal is to try to peacefully exit the war. I talked with tuffle and saiyans alike. The tuffle man leader, a woman named Cheri wants to try to find a way to move the saiyans off world. Restore their homeworld with their technology. The Saiyans Queen Rosemary however, is a devilish woman. I don’t trust her personally. She will be on a warpath soon enough. But as I told the Emperor, we are meant to mearly guard from a genocide of one of the sides. Our involvement will hopefully be limited merely to creating a peaceful environment for discourse and debate on the war. Of course things change with new developments but that is the plan at the moment.” Of course he didn’t add the part they would utterly crush the aggressor in the war but Derry didn’t need to know that.
Derry thought was smart. Even with his reassurance he rightfully pointed out the issue that could occur. He was involving himself on the plant. What would stop him from Earth or Namek in the future? A fair question. But he had a fair answer to it. “Well the situation on plant is different from Earth, yes. Two nations are at war with each other. A war that has been going on for fifty years. A war where figures from plants came to Azoth and myself to try to involve ourselves. Most notably a tuffle by the name of Yangcong. So they choose to involve us in the situation. And of course not that we were involved in some way we are looking at the situation from both lenses. Of course, our own interests are there as anyone would have. But the main goal is to stop the war. Peace is something Azoth wants. He can’t have two major factions in the galactic political sphere fighting to the death.”
Mint would stop speaking for a moment as Derry showed off indeed there was one more device set to record. And he turned it off. Mint cracked a grin. “Oh so you wanna talk. Take the masks off a bit.” He couldn’t say what mask Derry had but he certainly was willing to peel him off for a bit. “So you have the right to be concerned if I’m honest with you. I’ll explain. My position on Arcose was a power broker of sorts. When the Arcosian were going to decide the new leader, two parties rose up. Azoth and General Hibernal. I didn’t throw my lot with either. My position was gained through my tact. I was hoping to create peace between the parties. A triumvirate of power. Of course that was also to boost me to being the third most powerful being in the empire. So it was not fully out of an honest attempt to keep power in check."
"However, the battle began, Azoth returned from Earth and used his might to kill General Hibernal. I had suggested that he should let the general live, under his heel as a general with his expertise, if he did need to go to war. If of course, then he’d have someone under that regard. But he didn’t want too. He didn’t want someone like that who would betray him under his heel. So he died. Of course part of that was the General’s pride...but let me not get side tracked.” Mint frowned for a moment. “Emperor Azoth plays himself off as a heroic man. He is a good one. I do believe that but he is not as..shall we say benevolent as others make you believe. He is willing to use his might in battle. And willing to kill. Which rightfully with his position of peace is a concern. What is peace to a man who is willing to murder? That not peace, that is truly tranny through might? And while I do not believe he used his might in such a manner unless it was the only option, that may not be his same mindset as time goes on.” Mint cupped his hands on the table and waited for Derry’s response.
Mint begins divulging Azoth's plans in regards to the civil war over on Plant to Derry, explaining that the emperor apparently has no intentions on joining the war unless genocide is involved. According to him Cheri desires to move the saiyans off-world and use the tuffle technology available to repair their home world, which Derry believes was Sadala, though there are some very clear reservations when it comes to Rosemary, the saiyan queen. Derry's dealt with her before, and is still a bit surprised that a drunk like her ever became the queen of the saiyans, but then against it is the saiyans. So long as she's strong and powerful, would they really care that much? Maybe, especially since she wasn't exactly a pureblooded saiyan.
"And hopefully your involvement will stay that way," Derry comments after Mint's little explanation, "Of course it's understandable in the face of genocide to intervene in such a matter, but I wanted to be absolutely sure that this is a last resort." He still has doubts in regards to Azoth's involvement, especially since he's technically already made moves towards Earth. Derry falls completely silent upon the mention of Yangcong, that damn bastard always getting in the way even in death. If he were still alive Derry would absolutely hunt him down for making his political life all the more difficult by involving Azoth into other planetary affairs.
Once the recording device was off, now Derry was getting some rather juicy information in regards to Mint's position in the empire and Azoth's desires. The arcosian considers himself a bit of a power broker, not exactly the most loyal of men except to the ones who hold the power. He stood by while Azoth and Hibernal fought each other, or more like Azoth slaughtered Hibernal. Apparently Mint tried to get the emperor to spare Hibernal, but he killed him regardless, making Derry a bit more concerned about Azoth's true behavior while also giving him an opportunity in the future. "So even when Hibernal couldn't possibly stand up to him, Azoth removes him completely. Ironically enough, it probably would've been better for Azoth to just let him rot in prison. There's the possibility of escaping, but I believe it's better than making him a martyr to his followers."
Derry looks at Mint and continues, "His strength alone acts as a deterrent, something that warns people that he refuses to stand for anything he remotely disagrees with, even with my own little plans." He pauses for a bit, debating whether or not to share any further information with Mint. Since there aren't any recorders around, however, perhaps he could get away with revealing a bit of information. "Should Azoth find something that I do not in his own best interests, I'm almost positive he would intervene, and stop whatever it is that I'm doing. He's quite nosy in other people's business, I can be sure of that."
“Yes, hopefully it will. Hopefully there will not need to use any force.” Mint nodded to Derry. Of course he didn’t really care. But Azoth's goal was not to conquer planets. So he was going to speak on that matter. He assumed Azoth would not force the saiyans or tuffles to pick a leader he totally liked. “It is a last resort as I said. The goal for Emperor Azoth is to forge peace between the two species. Can’t have one peace if one side wants to utterly destroy the second side.” Mint would leave it at that. It was something he imagined Azoth would not step down from that position. Tough shit for the human, he just has to deal with it.
Anyway, more important stuff was at hand. Now he had talked about his position with the Emperor. But he had a few things to correct about the human position. “Well Hibernal was a foe. A dangerous foe at that. He was not going to remove himself from the fight. He wanted to fight to the death despite being much weaker. Of course he could have spared him. But it was basically an old man being stubborn and a young man not showing any mercy.” Still he had a point. He had merely made the general a martyr for his causes. Of course if Azoth had been killed the same as before. Derry also noted he imagined he ran into a situation that some of his plans he had for Earth, would not be stuff that Azoth would be very fond of. “Yes unless you're doing something horrible and out in the open he may not step in. Of course the more he helps people the more bold he will become. Personally, I don’t care that much on what unethical actions a leader will take. As long as I don’t see it in open view I got no reason to report it.” A sign that if Derry wanted to do his things out of sight, Mint would pay them no mind.
At this point it was probably about time that both Derry and Mint drop the conversation surrounding the whole Plant situation. Both of them have gotten their points across to each other, and at the very least Derry feels a bit more at ease with Mint's reassurance, not to mention that he's far more tolerable to be around than the emperor (not that either of them have to know). What was more interesting to talk about was the situation surrounding Hibernal's death, about how Azoth believed that keeping the old man alive would eventually bite him later on, which was certainly a fair point, though the whole martyr part still stands. "Perhaps in his mind he found it to be a lose-lose situation, where he either risks the man being freed one day or turn him into a martyr. He already made his decision long ago, though. I suppose what matters now for him is what comes afterwards as a result of such a decision." More specifically referring to a certain daughter of Hibernal's...
Mint was starting to suspect some of Derry's more 'hidden' motives as the arcosian has noticed how the president has been a bit paranoid about Azoth involving himself in Earth's politics. He gives the arcosian a little smirk and simply replies, "Well, then there should be no problem from him, I hope."
Mint nodded as Derry rightfully pointed out that man must of just thought it was a lose-lose situation. What did he have to gain by keeping the general alive. A potential foe in the future. Knowing Mint's own mindset and that he'd of sided with the General in all like hood if he had proven able to at least contend with the Emperor, then he was sure Azoth had made the right move. But at the same time the General could of been very useful. And that was what Mint had realized before that. Azoth had been stronger, the general wiser. The two of them working together would of been a force to be reckon with. But both their ego's go in the way of such an outcome. Oh well, he couldn't control them and just had to observe that was how things broke down. And how in the future they may work out as well.
As for his motivates all the president gave was a smirk and that was all. "Well I have heard things you should know. About snakes in your grass. I heard there a powerful organize that runs this planet from the underground. Dirty Snakes they are called. They are very powerful from what I been told. I don't know exactly how much influence they have on this planet. But if your speaking of plans you don't want him to know about? Working with criminals would be one yes?" The president could be tied with them. That was possible. Mint didn't know but he moved the piece in place. To see how the president responded. Afterall, information in these situation was key. And he had some pieces that would give that upperhand over the president.
Mint has apparently been lurking around and keeping his ears open about certain rumors, rumors surrounding Derry and his own associates. The president raises an eyebrow as Mint goes on about learning about the Dirty Snakes and how they might just have some sort of connection to him, though it's clear that Mint doesn't entirely know the full story. The fact that he's suspecting Derry of working with the Snakes is certainly a bit troubling, mostly because it's true in a sense, but also he doesn't know if this arcosian could be completely trusted. He still seems like the kind of man to go for whatever gives him the advantage, and pinning Derry to the Snakes would certainly give him quite a bit of leverage, leverage that he can't afford to let Mint have unless he could be absolutely certain that he could be trusted.
"My personal business endeavors have nothing to do with the innocent people of this planet, nor on any other planet," Derry begins to speak, "Rather they're more centered around the guilty, the rich. They're the ones with the money. They're the ones willing to risk everything for their greed. They're the ones that are important to control. Keep them in line, and they can actually contribute to the world. Step out, and, well, let's just say that I won't exactly be so kind to them." He still didn't want to admit his true position within the Snakes, but perhaps if Mint could get the bigger picture and realize that it might be a bit dangerous 'playing with this fire,' then perhaps he could earn his silence. "The Snakes are some of the most orderly scoundrels I've ever known. They're quick. They're efficient. They don't step out of bounds. They can be quite a useful tool, but that does not exempt them from my fury if they, again, step out of line. It's all about direction, Mint. Why turn them away when they can bring down the real troublemakers and the truly rotten? Because of the mere fact that they're criminals? One must make use of all resources available to them, and Azoth... Well, he doesn't exactly seem like that type of man."
Mint listened as Derry explained the situation. He seemed to be alluding to the fact that he had some relation with the dirty snakes. He could of denied but he seemed to not want to forma distrust. Though his words shifted as he put some distance. They were people that had to be kept in line. To be controlled and if so they be useful for the planet. Just like what Azoth did with him in order to control the crime on Arcose. To mold it to the usage of his Emperor. Yes, that made a lot of sense. He must of known the leader of this group and influenced them to be on his side. He nodded along as Derry kept describing them. They were crafty folks and tools to be used. He had to make them into be useful for him. And as he pointed out that didn't seem Azoth endgame. He would scorn at this. If only he knew.
"Yes, it does not matter. As long as you have it under control. I just worry that a group that reputation I been told would be a threat to you. But as long as you can mange it and does not hurt you or us, Then I don't care what sort of relationship you have with them. You are right though if Emperor Azoth heard about this he may look badly upon you. Think you were some scondural. Unlike my emperor however, I don't try to hold any moral high ground. I'm was in the muck myself once. Before I joined him of course." He was a criminal, the Dirty snakes were his type. And he couldn't complain with Derry using them for the devices of Earth. Really it just showed that the man was very crafty and a good leader. It was still something to watch of course, he may wanna meet a dirty snake themselves so he could get a feel of the group as a whole. Just in case Derry didn't truly have them managed. He didn't want them biting him in the future.
