Impressive! To see his shadow puppet be done away so easily wasn’t exactly surprising, but it did give him a better gauge of Amara’s skill set. In truth, his mimicry abilities worked better the more he got to know a person. Using it so early in a battle was usually counter intuitive, but he felt that using an imperfect shadow now would make a more solid one all the more impressive when it showed up later!
What he wasn’t planning for, though, was the curved bullet headed for him! It smacked into his chest, sending him tumbling to the ground in a comical manner. Soon after though, he caught his footing, and rolled back to a standing position.
”Oh. Sorry. Did that sound like flirting? No offense but dead ladies aren’t my type. I’m sure you’re nice and all but… Anyways, what’s it like knowing an Arcosian? I hear they’re a bit rough around the edges.”
His banter was interrupted by Amara’s next move. She summoned row after row of materialized lights, quipping about their invalidation of his magic. He tapped his chin for a moment, trying to recall their conversation from a moment ago.
”Weaker is the wrong word. They’re simply fresher. Harder to use in some spells, but far more versatile for others! Maybe that’s just because I’ve gotten so used to using them, though. You’d be surprised how often people shine a flashlight in my face and then start trying to monologue about how feeble my powers are!”
Amara would probably notice by now that he didn’t seem to mind the blinding lights much. This was because he’d summoned a pair of sunglasses for himself. They had a wispy, ethereal quality to them, but they blocked out light just as good as anything else.
Speaking of blocked out light, there was at least one place Amara’s lights couldn’t reach: inside Erebos’ clothes! He stuffed a hand down his breastplate, and, after a bit of digging around, produced a large black blanket-like object.
With his little shade sheet in hand, he raised a single finger, and poked dozens of little holes. From them, little shapes formed. Gingerbread men, toy soldiers, and wind-up oozaru marched around. All of them were either a sharp black or dull gray, sporting striking red eyes. For a moment, they seemed aimless, but when Erebos snapped his fingers, they began to act.
”Shadowmancers have to be a little tricky to get by.”
Suddenly, the toys took action. Lining up in a row, the toy oozaru fired mouth cannons, each of them spewing a few plastic pellets toward her. They were small, sure, but packed quite a punch! Next, the toy soldiers moved forward, fusing with the gingerbread men to become shadowy ginger soldiers! They marched as a unit, aiming to stab at Amara’s shins and ankles to keep her busy.
There wasn’t much actual punch to most of this. It’d be annoying, sure, but it was more to buy time for his bigger spells. Draping the shadow cloak over his back, he watched the girl carefully, and planned his next move.
”If you could revive, and I mean not by being recycled— would you want to be?”
