STREET SMARTS
Carro's PL: 1
Fall had arrived in South City with a merciless downpour. Water washed over Carro's skin so strongly that it felt like he was in the flow of a river rather than a rain shower. He could see his breaths in the chilled air, and pulled his worn blue raincoat tighter to his body in a feeble attempt to further stave off the deluge. A large green backpack hung loosely around his skinny frame, with each and every pocket filled to the brim with supplies.
Carro rounded a corner, taking shelter in a narrow alleyway. Slipping under an awning sheltering the backdoor of a small shop, Carro flopped to the ground with a deep, shaky sigh. As he sat, pulling his legs close to conserve warmth, the weakling saiyan looked up to the dark clouds above as the rumble of thunder surrounded the city. How did his life come to this?
It had been a few months ago now when Dion didn't return from his training. The first day, Carro had chalked it up to nothing but Dion working really hard out there... But then one day turned into two, three, four days, and then weeks, and then months began to pass without any sign of his older brother.
He'd done everything he could. He'd filled missing persons reports to every police department he found, checked each and every spot they'd frequent, asked everyone he met, but nothing. Carro depended on his brother for a lot. Without him, the younger Hofferson's stability began crumbling away.
Without the income from Dion's work at his bar, Carro couldn't make ends meet. First he'd stopped taking his classes at Orange Star Academy to save money, he sold anything he could afford to give away, but it wasn't enough. He didn't have a home to go back to anymore.
There was Uncle Caper, but... Being with him without his brother would be too much heartache. Even Bud, Carro's robotic companion, could do little to help the saiyan. He'd left the android with Caper and left without a word more than a month ago.
But that wasn't to say Carro had done nothing but sulk and scour for food now that he was cast onto the streets. It was hard to stave off the loneliness and desperation, but Carro was just as stubborn as his sibling. He was going to find his brother, one way or another. Reaching into his bag, Carro pulled out his notebook. His searching hadn't been for nothing. He'd started to get some leads on his brother's whereabouts, but... Carro looked at his own writing in his journal, detailing the most likely reason for his sibling's disappearance. The same people who wanted Amara may have taken her friend, too.
"U-ugh..." A raspy sigh slipped through Carro's mouth. The thought of going back to that place made Carro shiver even more than whatever illness he felt himself coming down with could ever hope to cause.
He closed his notebook, slinking further under the awning to escape the rain. Right now, he just had to worry about keeping himself together...Word Count: 516
