CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE: Image
BACKGROUND: Many shinjins have a set path to follow, working for the afterlife alongside King Yemma or something more. Such was the case for young Luzephyr who quickly assumed their position shortly after their birth from the world tree. Like many other shinjin born from the ripe fruit, they followed the orders given to them and carried them out as efficiently as they could. From their birth, they were seen as the model shining, carrying out whatever orders they were given, respecting the hierarchy of their kind, and overall acting as the perfect servant for those that they served. They had no desire to establish themselves more than who they were nor did they wish to interrupt the way of the divine order like some of their more rambunctious brethren tried, even intervening should they witness the infraction of any rule. It was out of the question how an attendant like them would ever find themselves cast down into the demon realm when they refused to stray even the slightest amount from their orders.
The truth behind Luzephyr's model behavior shattered every notion that others would have of them. In reality, they held onto false hope that they could rise to become a supreme kai despite the rigid hierarchy. They worked hard, hoping for some recognition, willing to even suffer the gossip and disdain from their peers in hopes that perhaps they could be more much than what they currently were. As centuries went by and Luzephyr realized that this was not the case. In reality, their superiors even exploited their model behavior to do strenuous and undesirable tasks as they were the only ones that wouldn't complain and tried their hardest. The final straw was when they had accidentally eavesdropped on a conversation, learning that their superior thought of them as nothing more than a lowly dog, eager to please for nothing in return. Furious, they confronted their superiors, demanding a raise in position and to speak with the ones in charge only to be laughed at in return and turned away.
Realizing that even model behavior would not earn them the attention of their superiors, Luzephyr realized that the only way that they could earn the attention of their superiors was to force it. Unleashing centuries of suppressed rage and frustration, Luzephyr began to carve a path of the blood of the mortals eventually making their way up to their fellow shinjin in hopes that it would get their attention. However, in the end, it was only the attempted murder of one of the Surpreme Kai which had finally earned their attention. By now, Luzephyr knew that they could no longer keep up their facade, vowing to dismantle the system of the divine with their own hands and destroy everyone that wronged them. They were done being the perfect little shinjin and wanted nothing more than revenge.
As punishment for their crimes, they were cast into the demon realm for the rest of their life, along with the other shinjin who were born from the rotten fruit. In Luzephyr's eyes, this was the ultimate insult, seeing as their superiors thought of them as nothing more than a troublemaker who could easily be disposed of. However, they were not content with just lying down in defeat and accepting their punishment. They firmly believed that they could turn against heaven should they gain the numbers and strengths to do so. And so, they began to make deals with demons and other shinjins who found themselves banished to this realm and began to create an army with the sole purpose of rebelling against the divine order itself. After a few more centuries, Luzephyr had amassed quite a large following who also agreed with their purpose, although they were all still stuck behind one final roadblock: leaving their prison.
In order to continue their battle against the divine, they had to find their way out of the demon realm and back into the otherworld which at the time appeared to be an impossible feat seeing as all portals lead to the mortal realm instead. Realizing that the only way for them to be summoned in front of their superiors once again was to cause the same trouble as they had before but on a much grander scale, Luzephyr decided to set their sights on the mortal realm once again, ready to wreak havoc upon the universe just to gain the attention of the Supreme Kais. However, on the eve of their departure to the mortal realm, Luzephyr's second in command, a fellow shinjin by the name of Dolos betrayed him, having planned an uprising for years. Dolos knew that Luzephyr was delusional and that their dreams would only lead to their slaughter. As a result, he had managed to convince them to turn against their leader under the fear of death and instead support his own vision. That night, Dolos' forces fought against Luzephyr's, eventually defeating all of them but the shinjin themselves. Deciding to leave them to die in the mortal world rather than killing them with his own hands, Dolos casted Luzephyr through the portal.
However, despite their past actions, it was as if fate still smiled upon them. While the portal placed them in a dangerous part of what was the planet Earth, they found by an old name by the name of Oshizu who took them in and nursed them back to health. However, upon waking, the shinjin had no memory, forgetting who they were and where they came from. They could not recall anything about their past, including their name. Pitying the being, Oshizu decided to take them in until they were able to recall who they were. Until they could remember their true name, Oshizu decided to name them Sioux.
Oshizu eventually grew to become a father figure to Sioux, teaching them everything that he knew. He was a herbalist living out in the middle of nowhere so that he could connect more with nature. There were people that would come to him for his wisdom and in hopes that he could cure their illnesses or injures that refused to heal. There, Sioux learned of a power that they possessed: one to heal others with a touch of their hands. As draining as it was, they had the ability to bring others back from the brink of death no matter how grievous their wound was or how advanced their illness was. Soon rumors of this power began to spread as more people began to flock over to visit this miracle worker. Despite the exuberant offers both Sioux and Oshizu turned down all payments, happy that they were simply able to make a difference in people's lives. However, as the years passed time slowly began to wear down on Oshizu as his mind slowly began to degenerate.
Unfortunately there was no cure for his condition though despite all of Sioux's efforts. All they could do was prolong his suffering. After a happy 15 years of living with Oshizu, they had to watch him forget who they were and eventually waste away. Overwhelmed with grief, Sioux decided to leave the wilderness, leaving his body in their old home and move into the cities where many of their travelers came from. It was a different environment, one that took some time to get used to, but eventually, they had managed to find a place to call their home. They started a small clinic that people could visit if they needed to. While they accepted money, they did not charge much just as they had done in the past with Oshizu. The clinic still had managed to change their life in many different ways.
There was even one night when someone had left an infant boy at the door with no elaboration of who he belonged to. While their typical patients told Sioux to give it to the local hospital, seeing as the boy was clearly abandoned by his parents, they simply couldn't find themselves doing such a thing. Sioux decided to take him in and raise him as their own, similar to how Oshizu had when he found them in an effort to return the favor to the world. They took the role of their father, doing their best to provide for the young boy as he grew up, naming him Haya.
As years passed and Haya grew into a fine young man, Sioux had continued on with their peaceful life until word of their mysterious power caught the attention of a mysterious person. They had never managed to catch her name, although this person expressed shock upon seeing them in the clinic, asking what a "shinjin" like them was doing here. However, Sioux did not understand the words that she spoke as she raved on about "supreme kais" and "heavenly order" as if they would recognize what she was talking about. Despite trying to help her, this person did not wish to be helped and instead stormed off in a fit of confusion and frustration. Although they were initially confused by this encounter, later that night they soon learned that those words had awoken their long lost memory after 50 years of arriving on Earth as their dream was filled with hazy memories of the past.
Confused and afraid of what they saw, Sioux decided to begin trying to decipher truth of who they were and what exactly happened. With Haya voicing his full support to help his father, the two began their journey to uncover who Sioux truly was.
