CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE: Nilen stands slightly shorter than the average male earthling at around five and a half feet tall. He is of lean build which clocks him in at about a hundred and forty-one pounds. His skin is heavily tanned due to living in the desert the vast majority of his life. His hair is short and shaggy with a sandy blonde coloration to it. Bright green eyes stand out in contrast to his caramel skin and compliment his blonde hair. What stands out about him more than the average Earthling, however, is that he has a long, fluffy fox tail and very large, fuzzy ears atop his head with tufts of fluff rising off the tips of his ears. His standard garb is usually some light, comfortably fitting cloth that can shield him from the desert sun and sand while still being breathable so he doesn't overheat.
BACKGROUND: Within the dunes of the Diablo Desert there exists a small tribe of spiritualistic nomads born primarily of human descent. They possess the ears and tails of fennec foxes, and have adapted to desert life in ways that most cannot mimic. There is a story among the tribe that is passed down from generation to generation that is something of a creation mythos for the tribe. Many millennia ago when humans struggled to survive in the desert's harsh climate, during the times when gods and demons more commonly walked the Earth, a benevolent fox spirit took pity upon the struggling humans who tried to live amongst the dunes. Whether the spirit was of divine or demonic origin is anyone's guess, but the gifts it bestowed upon those who were loyal to it were quite impressive. As a mark to show that this tribe of humans was loyal to the spirit and under its protection, it passed on its fox traits to the humans to aid them in surviving the desert. Large, furred ears atop their heads helped their bodies to disperse excess body heat and keep cool while also allowing them to hear more of the fauna of the desert even when it was digging through the sands a few inches below the surface. This allowed them to hunt for food more easily and to occasionally hear flowing waters of the various oasis to more easily locate water sources as well. It gave them each a fox tail, which could be used to help shield them from the sands, shield their eyes from the sun while their hands worked, and to give them extra balance to maintain their footing while navigating the dunes any time powerful winds kicked up across the sands. It is said that the final gift it bestowed before leaving the humans to live on their own was the gift of spirit magic.
The tribe was grateful to the fox spirit, and they used the gifts it gave them to thrive in the desert when others could not. However, other humans became jealous of the tribe and feared their magic, so the tribe was constantly under threat of being hunted. The elders of the tribe decided to take drastic measures to prevent their kin from being hunted and going extinct, and so they worked together to use the magic the fox spirit had given them to its fullest extent. They called upon the heart of the desert itself and caused it to create an ever-present sandstorm around the tribe to fend off their attackers. So long as they gave reverence to the fox spirit and to the desert, they would always be protected. And so it is said that any time you see a sandstorm blowing through the Diablo Desert, there is a pack of nomadic fox-like people in the eye of the sandstorm migrating to the next oasis under the protection of the desert.
Even to this day that is how Nilen's tribe lives. The secrets of the sandstorm that protects his tribe as they travel the desert from oasis to oasis are kept hidden to all but the tribe's elders. Whether or not their creation mythos is true or not can likely never be proven, but many Earthlings from outside of his tribe mistake his kin for the legendary Kitsune. Whether they really are descended from the ancient fox spirit or whether they are simple desert dwellers who learned to use spiritualistic magic to survive is anyone's guess.
Nilen is a member of the newest generation of the Desert Fox tribe. The tribe is populated by roughly a couple hundred members, and they use capsule technology to migrate around the desert, always following the winds and the path of the sandstorm to keep themselves hidden and protected. This is how Nilen lived his childhood. He was tutored and taught all of his tribe's stories and history as well as the magical arts they have used for thousands of years to survive and protect themselves in the desert. His mother and father were always a part of his life and supported him as he grew, but they were not the only ones who contributed to his youth. Being part of such a tightly knit tribe meant that the community raised him just as much as his own parents did, and many of his friends and their parents were as close to him as his own family.
While it was quite rare, particularly stalwart outsiders managed to make their way into the sandstorm to meet and interact with his tribe once in a while. That is part of the reason they had access to capsule technology despite being so isolated for the majority of their history. In much a similar vein, every youth among the tribe is given an opportunity when they fully come of age to leave the tribe and see the world. They are granted this opportunity with the caveat that they must either bring something, be it knowledge or a physical item, back to the tribe that would be beneficial to them or they must not return at all. It is both a right of passage and a chance for the individual to choose their place in the world.
Nilen's story truly begins at this point. He has just come of age and is now sent out into the world to explore himself and the rest of the world at large. Will he be able to find something valuable to his tribe and return home? Or will he find a place among the world at large and choose to walk his own path?

Light Attack || Prickly PelageADDITIONAL NOTES: Please rename the starter form to Heated Endeavor.
Nilen focuses his spirit magic into the fur of his tail(s). This turns his fur from soft and fluffy to incredibly sharp, pointy, and stiff like spikes or barbs. He can then flick his tail(s) to launch a barrage of needle-like hairs or he can slam a target with his tails up close to deliver the needle-like hairs directly.
Power: 40% (3TP)
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants:
Medium Defense || Sand Shroud
By channeling his spirit magic and calling on the essence of the desert, Nilen can create a miniature sandstorm around himself as a form of defense to repel or deflect incoming attacks.
Power: 50%(2TP)
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Shield(2TP)
Heavy Defense || Vulpine Veil
Nilen uses a sudden surge of spirit magic all around his body to create an area of immense visual distortion. It will appear to others as if the heat of the sun is rippling off the ground around him so much so that his form begins to waft and waver like smoke in the wind. His visage will become almost nebulous. He will then dart around as quickly as possible to completely throw off an opponent to make it incredibly difficult to discern his exact location within the visual distortion so that he can escape even excessively powerful attacks.
Power: 120%(4TP)
KP Cost: 6 KP
Variants: Evasive(2TP)
Light Sparking Attack || Desert Dance
The only technique that Nilen created himself, it is a combination of precise use of illusions. He starts by doing the steps of a dance meant to mimic the flow of sand back and forth on the dunes, moving freely with the wind, and begins to create stationary visions of himself in various positions and steps along the dance. Each progressive step amps up his speed a little more until he is moving faster than the eye can see. As this happens, his rapid steps begin to kick up sand, adding further visual distraction and to obscure his actual movements even further. Using these illusions and obfuscation, he will rush his opponent with a barrage of several wild blows from different directions so that it will appear as if he is both surrounding his opponent and also nowhere at all.
Power: 70%(6TP)
KP Cost: 2 KP/3 MP
Variants: Counter(2TP)
Utility Technique || Twin Tails
By focusing his spirit magic into his tail and bending his essence in tandem with illusion magic to mimic the appearance of his tail, Nilen is able to turn his one tail into two and can even use that magic to manipulate them both like fully functional limbs to use for combat.
Utility Technique || Essence Empathy
Through years of training in focusing his own spirit for use in the magic used by his tribe, Nilen has learned to 'feel' the spirits of other beings and can even gauge their strength relative to his own. This allows him to sense all living beings without the Anti-Sense trait. Higher ki signatures are easier to sense and can be sensed at greater distances than lower ones.
