Howdy all! It's been a while since I made a suggestion post, so I'm a little rusty. Here we go!
Today, I'd like to talk about something relatively niche compared to some of the other rules suggestions people have been making lately: a change I'd like to see to the Player Owned Boards system. There are two things about the system that I would like to see changed, one major and one minor.
The Rent System
The first thing I'd like to talk about and offer a suggestion on, is the rent system. As it stands now, I can only assume that rent's purpose is to ensure that after buying a board, people remain active on that board and make use of it, and a rent cost exists to make sure that these active characters are maintaining the use of that board. The only issue with this that I see, is that you can get zeni from any thread. Nothing about this system encourages people to play in the boards they have created for them.
Additionally, it's very easy to forget! Two boards: the FSS Acheron, and the Bonewood Grounds have had their rent missed a few times, and due to how easy it is for this to fade into the background, it largely went unchecked.
My suggestion is that instead of requiring rent to be payed after the upfront cost (which I also think should be able to be split with up to three people), we instead have an activity requirement in these boards. There must be at minimum a single post in the board each month. The post can come from anybody. If a month passes without a post, the board goes into alert, and the players who own the board will be notified; if another month passes without a post, the board will be locked. A 10,000 zeni fee is required to unlock a locked board.
Of course, this system should be understanding to the fact that sometimes, things happen that make a player or group of players unable to create new threads in a board, whether they be real life circumstances, or an AT lock preventing htem from making a new thread to post there.
Board Application Process
This is a secondary gripe of mine, but I think when requesting and applying for a new board, while the board image itself is optional, reference images and a description of the board image should be mandatory. It puts too much work on the staff to volunteer to create an image from scratch for a player-owned board without any references or designs supplied by the player.
