Sunset was just falling on Papaya Island, the sun a molten red orb dipping below the peaceful ocean horizon, its fading radiance being matched by the lights of the city sparking into existence for the night. Papaya was a city that never slept, one of the biggest on Earth, and it was the perfect sort of place for someone looking to keep their head down and avoid for a while. Katsu had come here after the bittersweet conclusion to his employment to the Cruor Clan, and with his appearance so different now compared to his human form he could fly under the radar entirely.
It had been perhaps two months since Katsu had injected himself with the perfected Sanguilis Vampiris virus and become a new breed of Vampire. He was still looking to keep himself mostly hidden from the Cruor Clan, as their Master no doubt wanted Katsu's head separated from his body still, and while Katsu knew he had greater physical strength than the average Vampire now, it wasn't perfect. His power had yet to properly stabilize; he had a hard enough time controlling his own ki let alone trying to fight. Waging war on an entire Clan of Undead was out of the question. No, it was time to stay low and gather himself, see what opportunities he could pick up...
Katsu's need for learning new things was actually the reason he had come to Papaya. Yes, hiding from the Cruor was important, but that could be more easily attained by heading to backwater towns in the North if we were honest. Yet it was here on Papaya that the Twenty-Fifth World Martial Arts Tournament was being held, and there were visitors from all over the planet, nay, all over the Galaxy here on Papaya to see and participate in the Martial Sporting Event. Powerful people had gathered, and knowledge was a form of power as much as physical might was. There was no doubt wonderful things to be learned from at least some of the participants here during the Tournament, even if Katsu had arrived too late to try and throw his proverbial hat into the ring.
Then again, as Katsu sat at his small booth in a classy restaurant he hadn't caught the name of as he walked in, he thought that perhaps there was something to learn from the proprietor of this place as well. The seating was quite comfortable, the ambiance was perfectly calm and peaceful. The place served alcohol but it was less a rowdy bar and more a private drinking lounge. The rich wood walls and ceiling combined with the warm yellow glows from the lighting made the place feel very inviting, and the absolutely stunning selection of alcohols on the barside wall let one know they were at a place that took the enjoyment of alcohol and food seriously. Katsu had been drawn from outside by the myriad of delicious smells that had come from within earlier this evening, the smell of sizzling steaks mixed with strong alcohol and fast-flowing blood thinned by that alcohol was almost intoxicating to the fresh Vampire.
After a moment of controlling his urges Katsu had entered the place, surreptitiously taking a seat and ordering a large steak and lobster dinner with, what else?, a deep burgundy wine and a glass of bloodroot tea. Now he had finished about two-thirds of his heavenly steak, had found the lobster needed quite a bit of butter (and steak drippings) to be palatable to him, thought the burgundy wine had a deliciously smooth flavor, and enjoyed the bloodroot tea quite well. In that moment Katsu fit the stereotypical vision of an ancient Victorian Vampire to a tee, with his silvery-white long hair, his pale complexion, and his ominously red eyes combined with his refined outfit and confident bearing as he enjoyed red meat and wine. Some of the other patrons were even actively avoiding meeting his gaze, to Katsu's smiling amusement.
There was much enjoyment to be had here for the young Vampire, and Katsu did not yet wish to leave. Thus, rather than rush to finish his food and drink, he would instead put his meal aside for a while, taking out a datapad, one of the new models of tablets, and began to look at the news while he let his food settled. The only thing that could make his night better is if he could have a conversation with a fellow intellectual...
