The Cornucopia, Cheri’s personal cruiser, was a beautiful ship indeed. Something like it could never have been responsibly built before the war, for it took too many resources and yet not enough practicality to account for it; indeed, it was an old craft, commissioned by Cheri’s grandfather, the father of Apuri Kotto, back from the good old days when most tuffles had never heard of saiyans, the ones who did knew them as a far-off mercenary race and Plant was still untainted and beautiful. The Cornucopia, true to its name, was horn-shaped but, admittedly, originally rather garish in colour, though in time those tinctures had grown more subdued.

Only a few hours before had the Cornucopia reached Earth for the first time in its long tenure. By coincidence, the ship had arrived over the planet’s North— which was fair enough, given that Cheri was wanting to go there before any other part of the planet. They’d already landed, and 4K and Nasu had already been allowed to go out and explore as they wish (Cheri certainly wasn’t going to stop them). Cheri herself had also left, leaving the Cornucopia well-hidden in a crevasse of ice and manned by its host of robotic staff. Where to, I wonder?

Central City was Earth’s most populous city and, for a city mained Central City, it was a good bit more North than any of the other cardinal directions. That, in itself, would mark it as an important first place to start in looking for allies. And, yet, in the South were the grounds for the Tenka'ichi Budōkai tournament which, at some point, she intended to hack into the registers to determine precisely who was entering, so why not go there? The answer was simple: Central City held their centre of government, ‘King’s Castle’. Cheri imagined it earnt that name during some monarchist period of history. And while she certainly wasn’t going to ask to speak with anyone important— indeed, apparently they were going through an interregnum period without a president— she figured a good first step would be to sightsee. Maybe go on a museum tour before doing even considering anything more ambitious.

Indeed, she had currently found herself with a larger group of Earthlings as they went through a tour of the building. Cheri herself was dressed appropriately, with a modest dull-pink dress, as she with the group followed their robotic tour guide who spoke with an odd mildly-sarcastic chipper voice.

After some turbulation on his way there, it appeared like Azoth had finally reached Central City, the one earthling settlement he had heard about from his first encounter on the planet. From afar, the arcosian could finally recognize this as a major city, it was much bigger than anything else on the planet, it looked to be full of live and movement, and although it felt much different than Kuriza City or the Bergs, it had the same energy to it. So many energy signatures in it too, some of them surprisingly powerful even. Perhaps that person was right, he would probably find what he was looking for here.

Still unable to fly, Azoth had to approach the city the usual way. So he managed to blend in with ease, he wouldn't look too outlandish for someone who had seen arcosians before and could not sense energy, because his signature was quite visible in that mass of people. He would spend a fair amount of time just following the tides of people, observing what places seemed to attract those tides and ended up at King's Castle, a large area with one building, surrounded odly enough by some kind of giant garden. It appeared to be closed to the public, but next to it was a museum, it couldn't hurt to go visit that.

Azoth made his way into a group of people visiting the museum, his arcosian card was still doing some weird interference with earth's technology, which did raise a few questions, but since it still managed to pay, he was let in and joined the group in the middle of the tour.

The robot guide was currently explaining the early kingdom that led to the construction of King's Castle, back when Earth was not united. Azoth couldn't help but draw parallels to Arcose's first leader, which also united the planet under his rule back then. It seemed history had some pre-destined path that would show up in different cultures, how interesting.

He raised his hand, something he had seen others doing during the short time he was there.

'' Excuse-me. I believe I heard Earth has now what is called a 'Pre-zi-dent', but now you're speaking of kings, what exactly is the difference between the two ?''

Of course, the idea of an elected, temporary leader was kind of lost on Arcosians.

Time to prove to the world that it can be a better place, we need heroes.

For some reason, at first unknown to himself, Cheri had invited the Saiyan to join her on a trip to some planet called Earth. This was quite odd to the man, for he didn’t exactly expect her one to take a trip itself given the possible situation on Plant, at first. But he soon learned it wasn’t just some kind of convenience holiday; there was apparently a fighting tournament that had been announced not too long ago. It was a good opportunity for many reasons.

The Saiyan also grew interested. Competition, he didn’t mind too much albeit he didn’t constantly seek it. Rather it was a good time as any to meet other people and grow stronger. Nasu came to Plant with the very reason of meeting strangers; he believed only a person that was on the other side of the galaxy could flip his own life upside down. So, of course, he did accept the invitation to join, as well.

Thankfully he did not have any luggage whatsoever. Not even his shirt as a matter of fact, the latter had gotten carelessly destroyed and had no time to really change it. As a matter of fact he pretty much came around yet with only a leather coat to cover himself, yet of course he didn’t exactly feel any difference. He wasn’t very caring of such, but he knew others could be. Therefore he had already decided the first stop he’d make on Earth: to meet a tailor worthy of a Knight.

But for the moment, he simply came along. The very spaceship was quite amusing: he hadn’t ever seen one that grand. Not that up close. Technology in his world was limited to the point where intergalactic travel was at best done with pods, and even those were imported from nearby worlds.

He had seen big ships in the last couple of years, around intergalactic space but he never really aboard one. This was his first time. In a couple of steps he made it to where he could rest in peace, in a corner, sitting and with his arms folded over his chest. Apparently it would have taken about six hours. For those very six hours he sat, and waited, with his eyes closed.

Time passed. It did, Nasu spent it reminiscing and whatnot. More of the details would be quite wasted to be told so lightly, therefore, even the man himself let them go off his mind and decided to take the first steps outside. He didn’t announce himself but he wasn’t scared to get lost; he’d be able to tell Cheri’s signature quite easily across this world. So he left for his little quest for a tailor. He was left exploring Central City for quite a while himself; and, many didn’t even want to respond to him.

That was until a nice old man did, of course. And guided him to the nearest tailor; he once more pledged before the shopkeeper and gave him instructions for an outfit. The Earthling was quite puzzled for he felt the very style was weird and absolutely incompatible with the kind of dresses that were the norm for the people in that world. Luckily so, he even could get himself some clothes. Sadly they were in the Earthling fashion, so he wasn’t too fond of them. Not because he disliked Earth.

He just… did not like those clothes.

The very collar of this white shirt felt way too tight, and his muscles weren’t used to such ‘tight’ and unfitting clothes, to be honest. But he guessed he’d have to make do until his order was ready, sadly.

Oh, how did he pay for those? That’d be a secret! But it was in a legitimate way, of course. Nasu soon enough decided to at least see where Cheri would be. He couldn’t really sense out the Cyborg dude, so he was clueless about where that one would be. His mind was yet of course focused on her signature; the Tuffle was in Central City too, and he soon caught up. A big palace.

So many people, too. It looked like people would regularly visit, but he wasn’t too sure what this was supposed to be. A few of signs seemed to call this a King’s Castle; was Earth ruled by a noble? Amusing. His curiosity couldn’t also help but perk: people were having such a different reaction to him, from having shredded and leather clothes to this white shirt, pastel, dark blue pants and a belt.

Oh, and shoes. Was this really all it took to be considered an Earthling? He doubted they were having second thoughts about his tail; he did see a bunch of beast people while he passed by. So there was no way they’d be scared by his long tail.

“Did I miss anything?”

He spoke to Cheri as he approached her; he spotted her after a few minutes of sightseeing. Then again, he was kind of cheating due to his energy sensing ability. He hadn’t kept tabs on her, after all he didn’t feel like he needed to. She was pretty well capable of handling herself, still he was a little curious. That far, after all, he didn’t have a lot of time to meddle with the Earthlings.

The robot guide himself too didn’t seem to interest Nasu all that much. It was just hard for him to take an artificial intelligence seriously, at times. The man still decided to try and pay attention however, as he also tagged along with the Earthlings. But something far more impressive caught his attention; his guard had come down in such a situation, and the voice that spoke a question had him suddenly grow on edge. Not in the frightening way, but the very ring of the voice had his ears freeze; he didn’t recognize it.

Yet the very acknowledgment had his instincts try and feel its energy. Once he did, he began feeling an absurd energy; from somebody who was just standing there?! He wasn’t even fighting or showing off. Nasu, even if anybody were to talk to him at the moment, would probably not notice as his body turned towards the Arcosian with wide eyes, a faint frown and a very drop of sweat that began to run down his temple.

The shock passed and his heart came to quiet itself down: if he thought about it twice, the two auras could be comparable— Cheri’s and the Arcosian’s, of course. Again, it was still quite a difference.

Still, what was that? He had never seen an alien like that. Driven by curiosity, the man decided to nudge Cheri shortly and lowered himself to the point where he could try and whisper to her ear.

“That… guy who just talked — what is he? He’s strong.”

In other circumstances he would have just approached him, but given the context he didn’t feel like it’d have been appropriate of him to interrupt the tour. Not to mention Cheri was smart, perhaps she knew something.

Cheri was not wearing her scouter on her head. She was trying to blend in to some degree and, as far as she could see, most Earthlings did not have scouters. She figured this made sense, as Earthlings did not constantly live in fear of invasion from hordes of massively-powerful genocidal monsters, the lucky bastards. So, rather, she had a small pink handbag with her, purchased for more zeni than Cheri reckoned it was worth, in which she kept her scouter. And, even though she did not wear it on her head, she could feel it vibrate through the bag when it detected a near Power Level, one the scouter had never detected before. So, quickly rummaging through the bag… Oh, shit. But, without putting the scouter on, she could not tell who that power signature belonged to. Even though she was officially just a tourist, an Earth tourist, from Earth, she would begin to look quite suspicious. And that’s suspicious in both senses of the word, being both apprehensive of others while looking to others quite odd.

Cheri figured out precisely what the Power Level belonged to about half a second before it asked a question. The robot, to her credit, was programmed to answer a massive host of questions, from ‘so this was when we got to the moon, right’ to ‘excuse me miss where are the toilets’ and even ‘yo check out what happens when i balance a cup on the robot’s head’, some of which even automatically called security, but the robot was unfortunately not programmed with the answer to ‘what is the difference between a king and a president’... well, actually, it did have that answer programmed in, but it accidentally parsed ‘pre-zi-dent’ as three distinct words and could only go with the frustrating

””Sorry, but I didn’t quite catch that! Could you please repeat more clearly?””

The voice like two similar voices come almost at the same time, but very very slightly displaced. Also, maybe it was just your imagination, but, while both were feminine, chipper and helpful, the second one was juuuuuuust a bit sardonic about it.

The rest of the group, normal boring Earthlings (mostly humans but with a pig zoan, an ostrich who forgot ostriches weren’t meant to be intelligent and a beige majin) looked at the strange newcomer. Some were a bit afraid, others just cautious, but none of them would answer him. Before Azoth would get the opportunity to rephrase or just ask again, Cheri would answer for him.

”A monarch usually comes into being just that via heredity; that is to say, usually, via being the child of the last monarch, where they would assume their role upon the death of their predecessor. If, instead of by heredity, the role of monarch is determined through a vote of some group, usually but not necessarily a group representing that which the monarch claims to rule over, then that is an elected monarch, in an elective monarchy. If that elected monarch has a term limit, which is to say, that their vote or election happens every set period of years, then that is a president in a presidency. Usually where the ‘voters’ includes every citizen and the term is every few years.” That was just a monarch with extra steps, wasn’t it? ”This has the advantage over hereditary monarchy in that the president must fulfill their promises and be a good leader. For, if they were unpopular by the time of the next election, they very possibly could be voted out.” She smiled. Some of the group looked to her; some shocked, but some figured she was just a historian who worked at the museum going on a tour in case anyone had questions the robot couldn’t answer.

The robot guide was visibly holding back a passive aggressive comment about taking her job.

Well, Cheri supposed the jig was up at this point. She reached into her handbag, took her scouter and put it on her head. ”Yep, as suspected. You’re one strong alien quite far from home. How’s Arcose this time of year?” She could admit that she had a slight negative prejudice against Arcosians; she was well aware of some of the stories whispered around the galactic grapevine. She could see what their unrestrained capitalism could do.

But now that she had her scouter on, there was a second power signature nearby, too: 5,000PL, and it was one the scouter recognised: Nasu. Had he finally gotten his new clothes? Hopefully so, as Cheri had been having a hard time speaking straight near him when he didn’t have a shirt on.

Nasu approached from behind and whispered in her ear before she could get a good look at his clothes (but she was already assuming they looked silly on him). She whispered back. ”Arcosian. Curious. Beyond that, no idea. Working on it. Leave it to me.”

And, to wit:

”Sir, you seem quite curious, but also rather lacking in a few specific areas of knowledge. By this I mean no disrespect; I can assist in that and other regards. Perhaps you could like to come with me and my compatriot for a private tour of the museum?”

””To be clear, this lady doesn’t work here—””

”— To look through the museum without robotic assistance?”

””... I need a promotion.””

While Azoth had been waiting for an answer to his question, it appeared that the earthling robot had a malfunction. Apparently, its communication devices were a little faulty, although unlike Paladion, it seemed to be on the receiving end of the problem. The arcosian did not intend to insist on his question, he would certainly be able to ask it to someone who would know, and fate had it that someone in the assistance seemed to want to answer him. Azoth had not quite realised people were worried around him, and for a reason, he couldn't really imagine why, he had been nothing but polite since his arrival.

From the other spectator came a visibly expressive woman, she looked like an Earthling, but Azoth had spotted her earlier with his ki sensing ability. Her aura was just dwarfing anything in their vacinity, except his own of course. His eyes would lock with hers as she delivered her explanation, a complete, if a little innacurate, version of what was a president. He had the slight impression that he was being talked to like to a child, which could maybe be explained by these people's interaction with other arcosians, if Thaw was something to judge arcosians on Earth by.

He would give her an understanding nod.

'' Alright, so presidents are chosen by the people every few rotations to lead. Got it. That whole hereditary stuff sounds silly though.'' He would simply say, as back on Arcose, even noble heirs were to be tested before the throne, to prevent any weak links in the dynasty.

When Cheri grabbed her scouter, Azoth knew this was a little fishy, especially with her tone shift from educationnal to... a tint of negativity to it, the arcosian couldn't put a finger on it, but he disliked the way she asked about Arcose.

'' Well if you must know, it's a very refreshing political unrest, with a tint of revolution. But the winds are still as cold as they ever were.''

His answer was meant as an answer to Cheri's little joust, to show he was not about to be out-witted by a quick-thinking earthling, although he had his doubts about her origins at that point. It was all but confirmed when a saiyan male arrived next to her, Azoth could see the man's interest in him when their eyes briefly met, that one was a fighter, no doubt about it, although a bit of the weaker side.

The following invitation from the woman was, well, pretty clear regarding interest. This was not an ordinary museum tour anymore, and they wanted to talk a little more privately... or would they try their chance at fighting him ? Perhaps if they saw him as a threat that would be possible, although he was certain they stood no chance if he ever was to go serious, so the danger was minimal.

'' As a matter of fact, I believe this glitchy robot would need some upgrades here and there. I think I will accept your offer, and I suppose this is the compatriot you're talking about. Hello to you, saiyan. ''

The arcosian's eyes wandered to the saiyan, in old stories, they were considered the natural ennemies of his people... but Azoth knew better, he had met some saiyans, and they had been nothing but nice to him... even potential ennemies. This one though, already looked at him like a rival, although not in a way the arcosian disliked.

'' I am Azoth Icepeak, contendant to the throne of Arcose and its empire. It is my pleasure to see I am not the only visitor from far away on this beautiful world. Well met.''

Azoth's voice shifted from a defensive and firm tone to a friendlier, more natural one, his usual voice. These people were probably worried, scared even, and he wanted nothing but to help. The arcosian began to understand that his power did draw people to him, he already had the presence of an emperor. He gave them a smile, an honest and benevolent one.

Time to prove to the world that it can be a better place, we need heroes.

He was not sure what else there could be to this entire tour thing. Nasu wasn’t exactly the books kind of guy but he could of course respect history, that however, did not make him one for politics. For that very role had been suited to his brother ever since childhood came to be: the first born was meant to be Prince and the next King, whilst the second and any others would have been nobles no less.

Nasu only had one brother, once at a time. But admittedly not once did he truly envy him, maybe. Perhaps. He wondered at times what it’d have been like, had he been in his very shoes. But instead Nasu found dedication to his role to be much more vital than daydreaming. Still his body and mind weren’t quite so easy going when it came to his past, it was still a part of it he tried not to think much about. However the conversations of monarchy really made not associating any of it to himself quite difficult.

“Via the first child of the monarch in many cultures, I’d like to add.”

Nasu spoke up, out of turn perhaps but no less to enlighten the minds of the pleb. Or citizens, depending on how one would see it, but of course then Cheri began to teach more politics. A monarch that was elected by the people? While it rang a nice tone to the man himself; for it was truly a beautiful idea giving the people the right to choose, he didn’t approve of it all that much.

He believed that things had to be earned not through promises but rather action. A hero was considered one due to what he did, not what he promised he’d do; only then would you be able to trust someone. But truly not even trust was everlasting and eventually it’d be broken by either loss of one’s morality or even further situations that’d cause one to fall. Again, of course, Nasu simply mentioned such examples in the back of his head.

“Neither system is perfect and is sure to work, in a few words. You’d better be the leader of yourself if you wish to feel accomplished.”

How odd, for some reason he believed into that and yet couldn’t fully resonate with those same words. He wondered why, for just a moment honestly but he knew that in the end it was all in his head. Right? Besides that, the Arcosian was smoking stuff! To be truthful, the Saiyan was personally interested by that aura but at the same time there was something else.

He couldn’t quite explain it but it was far more intricate than just any other feeling that surfaced in his head. It was something that had his blood boil strangely, it made him feel somewhat heated honestly but he didn’t feel angry all the same. Almost as if his instincts screamed danger at him, but yet, his mind felt calm as ever, too. Was this something that much engraved and settled within his species that it had made his way through into his genes?

His train of thought was suddenly interrupted with no mercy whatsoever when Cheri responded to him. He looked at her briefly, what did she wear herself? His eyes perked briefly, it was odd seeing her without armor to begin with; but the choice of clothes he felt was quite fitting for her, in the end. Pink was the new black, right? Either way, though, his attention felt a little off; did she say to leave it to her?

Was this in a good or bad way? For some reason he didn’t like hearing that, as he just made a faint frown with his features but all the same he didn’t reply either and just had himself once more gaze at the Arcosian. There was no doubt the alien had seen him by now; did he recognize him too in the same way he did? He doubted it. The difference in power was just that vast. Honestly, it kind of irritated Nasu for the first time.

Why?

He didn’t care all that much about Cheri. Was it because she was a Tuffle to begin with? Did a possible history between two species carry its resentment inside Nasu? Of course not. Not so clearly, but surely he felt things he probably wasn’t meant to by a first meeting. Regardless, he thought well of strength but even more of how one used it.

“...Hello.”

He said. He knew what a Saiyan was, no doubt. Of course he must have known some, perhaps. It wasn’t like his species was extinct, after all. But still it left him somewhat puzzled; was he meant to know what Arcosians were? Maybe he did… There was something about the strange person that allowed him to look like a lizard. Didn’t his grandfather Retasu tell him of powerful space lizards once? A language barrier, perhaps.

“I am with her, yes.”

The Saiyan responded, his arms folded over his chest as he fully turned towards Azoth. His very shirt had its tendrils and cloth being pulled from just how hardly he fit into these. He absolutely hated Earthling clothes so far, but thankfully these were only temporary until he’d get the outfit he ordered.

Whilst, for some reason, he expected a worse response this Azoth was quite cordial and civil. He was also ambitious, to contend for a throne was no joke. There were lots of factors, across politics, skill and more. It left him somewhat intrigued.

“I am Nasu. Although not as high and renowned as king, I once was a Captain service to a fine kingdom. I hope you will be a grand and good ruler, Azoth.”

The Saiyan didn’t express as much of a smile or whatnot, he just spoke with his deep and mature tone; he resembled great youth still but didn’t feel like he was any happy go lucky Saiyan, rather, just a civil and experienced one at that. Still, he wondered, what was he here for?

“I am down for a private tour. It’s not like I enjoy the company of robots at all.”

He honestly just said that because he wanted to know Azoth better.

If Cheri hated Arcosians she might have thought up a little joke to herself like ‘Arcose is revolting’ with all the meanings that that entailed but, as she did not, she simply considered the phrase ‘trouble in paradise’. ”Positively frigid.” Given her tone of voice, that seemed a good thing despite ‘frigid’’s usual connotations.

Oho, Azoth Icepeak, what a name, what a title! With an introduction like that, Cheri imagined, he was either someone remarkably important, someone who would soon be remarkably important or someone who was pretending to be that first remarkably important someone. ”Well met. I am General Cheri, on Earth on behalf of the tuffles of Plant. I am here to scout for the powerful and morally-driven warriors of Earth so that they may assist in preventing the Vegetans from genociding us.” It was spoken entirely matter-of-factly, and in such a way that presumed that Azoth would already have a decent knowledge of Earth’s strange tendency to hold warriors both powerful and moral.

She turned around and, for the first time, saw Nasu’s clothes. Certainly, she wasn’t keen on what she was wearing herself, and she had selected this dress in particular as it was the least egregious of the lot; hopefully Nasu was happy about it, she thought, for she did not see the appeal in Earthling fashion herself. Still, she knew better than to appear displeased; not with her own dress, yet along his suit lest he take offence. She would move to a more discreet part of the museum, though in the same room as before, provided that she was followed.

She was not sure of it, but she thought she could detect some kind of tension between the two men. Had the two previously met? No, surely not. Was there some ancient enmity between Arcosians and saiyans? As far as Cheri was aware, no, and if anything Arcosian merchants had been rather buddy-buddy with selling saiyans advanced weaponry.

”Apologies if I’ve mislead, good sirs,” as there were two of them, the Arcosian and saiyan alike, ”but the sum of my Earth history I learnt through televised documentaries back from when I had the time to watch those.” That had not been since the early teenage years. ”I would be happy to discuss models of government, and the philosophy of authority, but do not expect examples from Earth.” Or, at least, do not exact too many Earth examples; some of those documentaries had stuck with her. ”If it is not too much trouble, may I ask your purpose here?” It was not accusative like it might have been if asked by a cop. No, it was a legitimate, curious question as if asked by an off-duty cop.

From a glance, Azoth was pretty sure he had Nasu figured out. The boy was a saiyan, but his appearance was refined, noble even, from what the arcosian had seen of other saiyans. He was mature-looking, cut for combat and powerful in his own rights... On the other side, his mind was obviously tormented, as he was only giving strange, out of place responses to exterior interference, mostly looking into the void, the everlasting presence of torment in his eyes. Royal blood, no doubt, but not the heir, obviously. His comment about the first child becoming monarch made that much clear. What was a Prince of Saiyans doing with what Azoth could only assume was a Tuffle, on Earth, while their conflict was raging back on Plant? At least, Yangcong said as much. Oh, perhaps they were some kind of forbidden romance ? The young prince of saiyans falling for the beautiful eyes of a Tuffle prisoner, and escaped together where their love wouldn't be questionned ? Yeah, that had to be the case.

'' Well, it is a pleasure to meet you Nasu. Thanks for your trust, and I will make sure to at least try my best to get along with your father and/or older brother. ''

A quick jab, nothing more or less, no malice in his voice or anything, Azoth just wanted to throw at Nasu the fact that he knew. Maybe he had been scared to tell Azoth, as rulers in the galaxy were not too kind on each other most of the time... this was about time it changed. In the end, Azoth was glad Nasu was going to follow them, this saiyan had his curiosity caught.

Of course, that did not pull Azoth completely away from Cheri. This one was an interesting specimen to say the least. While the arcosian had an idea as to why, outside of love-based escapism, she had come here. He would expect her to ask for his help at some point, like Yangcong before her... now that he thought of it, were Tuffle's hair naturally pink ?

And... bingo!

'' Well well, General, it seems we are here for a similar purposes, as I am looking for morally-driven fighters to join me against the militaristic tyranny of my world. With our emperor's dissapearance, a certain general, nothing to do with you, is under the impression that the throne falls to him, and I politely disagree with him.''

Conflict in the galaxy seemed to have erupted in the past month, it was truly peculiar, but also thrilling to be at a point in history with great change coming, especially for someone like Azoth, willing to be a part of all this.

'' I do have to ask though. If you're fighting against the Saiyan invasion, why are you all lovey-dovey with their prince ? Is he a traitor to his people, just against the conflict or is it the looks of him ? ''

Azoth gave a chuckle, while his question was honest, he made it as a joke so that Cheri could brush if off easily if it made her uncomfortable.

When asked why he was there, following the admission that Cheri did not know much about Earth, the arcosian would give a knowing nod.

'' Well, aside from what I said earlier, I came to Earth to observe its culture and inner-workings. If I am to become Emperor, I figure that knowing about my Empire would be pretty useful, and I intend to send invitations to the major worlds of this galaxy, to work together in creating a better universe for all of us, and that includes Earth. Plant seemed like a... complicated destination for now.''

Trully, this discussion between the three of them was bound to bring some interesting points, and certainly more productive than a tour of Earth's historic leaders.

Time to prove to the world that it can be a better place, we need heroes.

Cheri introduced herself with quite the formality and all. It almost made his own introduction look bad, but of course he wasn’t quite sure what his role truly was in that cold war; in a way, he allied with the Tuffles but it was hard to speak as a defender of them when they didn’t like him that much. Either or, he didn’t mind but it was hard selling that story to others he’d meet.

While, unlike Cheri, Nasu didn’t have the slightest hint about Earth history; he was actually interested to hear what the Arcosian was doing on this planet. Was he here for the tournament too perhaps? There was a positive chance, for that alien was amazingly strong compared to the average fighter. Truth be told, he was both frightening and exciting. Was he also here to fight or did he have other reasons?

Maybe he had business in this foreign world, after all. So, he decided not to mention the tournament.

It took no man with great social skill to read that the Arcosian touched quite the button when he mentioned either his father or brother; he didn’t look visibly upset but of course his expression couldn’t help but falter, his very brow rose before he just shut his eyes briefly. His voice soon emerged; it was clear and yet deep as ever.

“I wouldn’t call it trust. Rather a wish for the future. It has not been too long since I have come across this side of the galaxy and I have already been facing villainy left and right.”

Nasu could probably begin writing a list, but he was afraid he would have to get a lot of paper done at some point, then. So it wasn’t worth the giggle, but in the end he also mentioned of course an obvious fact.

“Besides. Both my father and brother died a while ago.”

He didn’t care to explain what exactly happened to them. He didn’t feel the need to, but then of course, one could think many things of such; seemingly it looked like the Arcosians just believed him to be a Prince of the Saiyans. Which, he kind of was, but he came from so far off and all that he had nothing to do with the Vegeteans besides lineage. So, he didn’t feel like he could quite call himself a Prince.

“I am sorry you have to deal with that. How do you plan to proceed against this General?”

He asked out of curiosity; did he have a plan in mind or was he just going to overthrow him due to popularity, followers or whatnot? He wasn’t entirely sure but Arcose was some kind of Empire, right? He wasn’t too sure how the election worked for an Empire, as usually the one monarch would lead and assign their successor, he guessed so, at least.

His mind reached a state of blankness when Azoth made the joke, however. Lovey… dovey? Honestly a brow rose, somewhat of a sweat ran down his temple: did they look like a couple? He looked at Cheri briefly, he wasn’t sure if he expected to be looked back at, but he didn’t think they really needed that kind of cover-up, so he was pretty honest about it and just looked towards Azoth.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but it’s not what you think. Cheri’s way out of my league. And, we’re probably too busy with the Plant situation to worry about love.”

He mentioned. He wasn’t sure why he said Cheri was way out of his league; was he talking about her power level or looks? Either or, it just came out as that, and didn’t see a reason to correct himself, soon enough he also let his arms down on his waist.

“Also I am not a traitor. I am not Vegetean at all. I come from a far away planet; all I share with other Saiyans is the fact that our ancestors lived on Sadala once. I am allies with the Tuffles right now, and Cheri is...”

He once more peaked at her briefly.

“A friend. I think.”

He wasn’t sure if it was too soon to call her a friend but if anything she was slowly gaining more of his trust, of course. Otherwise he never would have followed her in space.

This man came to observe the Earthlings? At first, when he said such a thing, he wasn’t exactly sure that’d be all; he didn’t seem plausible that a contendant for a throne would get away from his quest for a pleasure trip. Or well, at least, it didn’t make sense to him. Right now, as they spoke, he could as well be losing his place as Emperor, after all. Truly, a similar thing could be said about the two of them.

Or Cheri, rather. She was the one who would have been able to protect the Tuffles the most, but she apparently trusted her kind or other, selected members in particular to handle their own while they were absent for the tournament.

But of course there was more to it. Azoth himself confirmed that it was indeed to build relations with other planets. As far as Nasu knew, that was exactly why they were here, besides the tournament just being an excuse to do so. Albeit Nasu had mostly tagged along to train, maybe he could meet a new friend that would assist them, too.

The Saiyan nodded. He absolutely understood where Azoth was trying to poke at, but of course, he didn’t seem to be completely approving of what he said. His very expression became softer, his head tilted away just briefly while he looked at him and spoke.

“You are right about Plant. But I wouldn’t exclude it if I were you. It is easy to build relations in peace with other planets. However, you’ll agree with me that in the midst of chaos, being able to secure a goal for a side will only make the benefits more rewarding for yourself one day.”

Ah, splendid. Between Cheri wishing to recruit the morally-driven fighters of Earth to defend against the Vegetans, Shakuhachi wishing to recruit them to help with his takeover and now Azoth wishing to recruit them to help in some form of righteous rebellion, it seemed Earth’s fighters were in high demand… and, if they all went off to those various corners of the galaxy where their services would be required at the same time, strangely enough, Earth’s only fighters would be those who could resist the call to do good. Or, y’know. Arseholes. ”How very interesting.” She sounded like she was interested, and she certainly was; however, there was only so much she could care, given that so much of all of her at all times was so constantly dedicated to the defence of her planet. Besides, Nasu had already asked a decent question of it.

Meanwhile, for the next question, she let Nasu answer, while she herself was a bit embarrassed at Azoth’s insinuation. She momentarily looked at the saiyan, quickly looking away when she saw that he was looking at her. Though, she was a bit offended on his behalf about the ‘out of my league’ comment, if only because her self-perceptions were so depreciatory. Despite the embarrassment, she would succeed in keeping her heartbeat within standard parameters and would entirely resist even the slightest hints of a blush. ”A friend,” she confirmed, her voice carrying that seamless confidence she carried so well.

She quickly distracted herself with Azoth’s next words and, in her speed to think on something else, barreled into a mental tangent about Arcose’s intricate interplay of old world imperialism (monarchism) and new world imperialism (capitalism). ”Quite noble, if you win and your vision as portrayed survives.” Indeed, it almost sounded too good to be true; what was his real plan, she wondered?

And, indeed, Plant was far too difficult a situation, and would likely remain so until the tuffles had the political and military power to pressure the Vegetans to settle elsewhere (or, in the worst possible case that was still technically a victory, until they killed all of the Vegetans). But in part, that was why she was here. ”If you hadn’t your own immediate concerns, perhaps I’d be asking for your assistance. Possibly the inverse would be true as well. These are... interesting times.”

Azoth was quite confused at the nuance between trust and putting one's hope in a certain person, although he did not doubt there was one in the saiyan's mind, it did seem like a very similar concept to the arcosian. But he could work with that, if people were putting their hopes on his movement, it meant he was doing something right, and would certainly keep on that track for as long as he would possibly be able to, even if that brought him in front of most battlefronts in this galaxy, he was there to try to unite it after all, so it made sense that he would get involved in conflicts all over.

Now, the announcement that Nasu's royal family was dead did ring a reaction from Azoth, he would bow his head in respect, he had overstepped and, like most times this happens, he ended up triggering something bad. Azoth was embarassed at his misteps, so he jumped quickly on the first occasion to change the subject, which came from a question Nasu asked.

'' Well you see, since the Emperor is missing and was childless, a new dynasty is most likely going to form, which means the strongest faction will place its leader on the throne. There are currently two contenders, the Galactic Frontier, led my myself, and the New Space Force Warriors, General Hibernal's private military group. I have spoken with the general to atttemp at diplomacy, but he confirmed to me that he would rather die than see me on this throne... so it will most likely end up as an open conflict, either between the two of us, or between our groups.''

Yeah, this felt like a decent explanation of the whole conflict, of course he ommited the finer details, but they did not need to know the complicated relationships going on in this conflict.

While both of the star-crossed lovers seemed to deny their connection, there were still plenty of evidence for quite the contrary. First, Azoth noticed those looks they were exchanging, and even though Cheri was quite good at keeping her calm, Nasu was quite obviously affected by what he had said. A quick glance at him was sufficient enough to tell that he was not out of anyone's league, but if he considered Cheri above himself, well... that told enough for Azoth to be content with the information.

'' Alright then, I'll let you two figure this out on your own, I shouldn't be pushing things.''

He said with a heartful chuckle, they were kind of cute together, he could totally see it now !

The comment on Azoth's vision being noble touched him, a little bit of pride would show when she said those words... if people were able to see the honestly and noble nature of his fight, people outside of Arcose, then surely it was achievable, because some would believe in that dream of his, and if they believed, they would certianly join him in the effort... it now looked like it could be done.

They both had very good points about the conflict on Plant, Nasu was a little off, his understanding of what Azoth had said was lacking, but he had good intentions. Cheri spoke what Azoth was also thinking, that they could have recruited each-other, and concerning him, in any other circumstances, he would have joined her.

'' Do not be too quick on assuming Nasu, I do intend of getting involved on Plant eventually, but I need to make sure my faction wins the throne first. If I had gone to Plant now instead of Earth, I would have found myself into this conflict, and leaving would have been much harder. As for you Cheri, I could not have said it better, I would have been glad to join your side, if there was still a worthy emperor on the throne of Arcose.''

Having said that, hopefully, Azoth made it clear that he supported their struggle, even though he could not do much for now.

Time to prove to the world that it can be a better place, we need heroes.

Admittedly that question alone made him feel confused: were Arcosians even sexual beings? Because he did look at this one in front of him and did not look the role, but of course, perhaps there could be something he didn’t know, therefore he decided not to question that part all too much, but he could still understand the issue at hand. A new dynasty was necessary. An Empire was made to be led, if no one could lead it, then somebody needed to man up. He figured this was only natural. Not for one to rise up to the throne, but rather the fact that he’d have somebody to contest such a claim. Competition was natural.

His face queried a curious brow, however. Did he hear those names before? Those space-like groups? They had to be at least somewhat known, but he knew that space was vast and even the Plant situation was not all that clear to him until he actually met Cheri. So maybe they had a history of sorts, some piece of knowledge he could actually obtain. Maybe he did but he wasn’t sure if he really knew who they were, therefore he decided not to be a stranger and ask.

“The Galactic Frontier? And the New Space Warriors… What’s the difference between these two? You say you attempted diplomacy but said General would rather die. From how you word it you make it sound like they are warlords. Not literally, but if he really is that kind of person, then it will come to conflict. Perhaps even now that you are gone he may be plotting for the time you return to Arcose.”

Cheri did confirm they were friends. Already that had him feel happy, honestly. His tail wagged uncontrollably for a few moments until it wrapped around his waist, aware of his own weakness; displaying emotions with his tail! Therefore, if he had it wrapped, it would not have been an issue. Just a lone warrior happy he was making a friend.

“Yeah...”

Something else he noticed was how Cheri also shared a doubt or two: Nasu too didn’t trust Azoth, but rather he hoped he would be true to his promises. He had no reason to doubt him but neither did he have any to blindly trust him. It was too good of an agenda, too many good promises. He didn’t think anyone would back them up, but of course, maybe they were just too worried. He didn’t say anything about it, but of course, he shared Cheri’s view on the matter.

Nasu narrowed his eyes once more and looked at Cheri again. Figure things out? He was not sure whether the Tuffle was taking this seriously at all, but he did truly believe that he didn’t need to go ahead and tell Azoth something on the matter once more, and instead checked to see if Cheri was going to say something about this couple thing. How did they look like one still made him feel curious, albeit he figured out it wasn’t completely impossible they’d give that idea.

Of course, the Saiyan also knew when he was wrong. And he could realize that he did indeed misunderstand the situation: earlier he believed that since the situation was complicated, the Arcosian wasn’t up to help. In a sense that was quite against what Nasu would have been like, for he was taught to mostly launch himself into desperate situations — which made for miserable, but often entertaining and interesting outcomes.

But now, at this point, he was just glad this guy was not half bad. He would not have been afraid to battle him, but of course, a guy could just go on so much trouble before he would have liked some kind of break.

He was a Saiyan, though, so he did not really need that much of a break. Still, he soon began to nod his head and with his gaze temporarily lowered as an apology. “Yes. I believe I understand what you mean now,” - said the man with nothing else at first, as he allowed Azoth to finish his sentence instead. Of course he would have had trouble if he was to get involved in the Plant business at this moment now; the throne would be left empty.

That was quite problematic. He did not look at Cheri but he had already figured out she hoped to bring this guy in the fray, but the way things were looking, she either had to submit to the chances that he was already too busy with his own problems or perhaps offer some kind of deal. Sadly, Nasu was no politically active figure, ever. He was second born to a King and therefore he was only trained to become a guardian to his brother and the kingdom; a Marshal.

There was nothing such as politics for him, not in that regard that he could negotiate a smart outcome for both. So, unfortunately, he could not quite come up with something to tell Azoth. Maybe Cheri would know, though. He believed she was way smarter than him, so maybe she could figure out something. But in the meanwhile he nodded towards Azoth.

“Sorry. You are right. Leaving your throne unattended for a conflict like Plant’s could be lethal for your chances. Of course I do agree with Cheri, you are noble. And as a former Knight I respect that. You would have been welcome to assist in our crusade with us for the survival of Plant’s natives against the vile Saiyans.”

Nasu looked away to stare at the walls of the very palace. He believed that in itself it was quite trivial, neither could help one another without sacrificing the safety of their own objective. Was there not a way they could possibly unite the two things? A way for the success of one to become the success of another. How trivial, indeed.

”It might be rare, a dynasty might live through a dozen incarnations, but it will always come to an end. By invasion or by the line simply meeting its filial end, it has happened many times before and will happen many times again.” she answered Nasu. Now we were getting into feudal politics. ”As a hereditary monarch you must consider: how many children should I have? For every child will grow up wanting power, wanting a piece of the pie and, if their eyes are too big, wanting the throne itself. Too many children and they’re somewhere between discontented and competing. Too few? Too few means, if they all die, well…” We’re seeing precisely that.

The emperor was dead, long live the emperor. But who would be the emperor? It was a classic situation, one that played out a thousand different times on a thousand different planets. Cheri did not know much of Earth’s history but she did know that, back when there were small monarchies which at most controlled one cardinal direction of the continent (for example, the East Kingdom), the less stable kingdoms would be those that were defined by their dynasty and would immediately collapse into fragmentary pieces on the end of the dynasty if not the end of its monarch, if especially unstable. But, for the greater of the kingdoms, not even a dynasty dying would end the kingdom, and simply a new dynasty would take its place. On Earth this was especially notable, as these dynasties tended to be composed of zoanthrope Earthlings, and so were called simply in reference to that animal which their family bore resemblance to.

Cheri was not familiar with these factions, neither of them. She was familiar with the OMG, but that must not have been important enough to earn a mention. Despite all the pretenses of organisations and corporations, these were still all the same mechanisms and playings out that marked everything hereditary monarchy touched. It seemed to have been just as prevalent on Arcose than on Old Earth. Strife like this… strife like this could be resolved with a comprehension system of succession, possibly. But even then, with a system geared to heredity, weak monarchs were inevitable. Either the system would transition to a republic, or a constitutional monarchy effectively led by a prime minister… a republic in all but name. Then there was the political concept of the kyklos… but perhaps that was a bit too grand a concept for now.

Cheri thought through the concept of kyklos anyway to move through the embarrassment of Azoth who, even with his disengaging, still seemed to imply that there was something between the two. If need be, this was something she and Nasu could clarify away from prying eyes. ”I don’t suppose you’d consider, upon your victory,” she started, intentionally seeming to assume that he’d win, ”a change in Arcose’s form of government? ‘Empire’ has a prestige to it, but it is irremovable from imperialism.” And while Azoth meant to spread influence, from what she could tell, it would be through a more organic and mutual exchange: no exploitation of the resources of others, no forcing of culture on anyone. Or, that is what I hope he intends.

What a situation to be in. It would be an oversimplification rife with assumptions, but it was comparable to a logic trap where there were two parties each with a problem that could be easily solved by the two of them working together but, with one’s focus away from their own problem, it would devour them. If either dealt with the problem by themselves, they could go to assist the other, but there was no guarantee of that. It was a Chinese finger trap on a galactic scale.

Nasu rose a good question when he spoke of how the previous emperor was childless, there was an easy explanation alright, everyone knew it, but it was hard to admit that Arcose had fallen so low in recent years, but honesty was part of Azoth's way, and he would follow it regardless of its natural conclusion.

'' Well you see, the last emperor, even if not our worst, was kind of an incapable. He barely had any power, and the only reason the empire did not break down under him was, and it pains me to admit it, the terror that General Hibernal imposed on other worlds of the empire. As for your other question, yes, we indeed reproduce very similarity to other organic species, but since we have a natural armor covering most of our body, I undertand the misconception. ''

He did not feel weird talking about this, the saiyans was visibly cursious, and curiosity is a sign of intelligence. Cheri seemed to understand that as well, as she explained what monarchy was, although she really seemed to go into details about the inner functions of political systems, and her base understanding were slightly off, or rather, different from Azoth's own, perhaps Tuffles had a bad time with their monarchs in the past.

So Nasu was a former knight, this would explain why Azoth felt some kind of kinship with the saiyan, they probably had a similar moral code and training, the fire in the saiyan's eyes resonated with Azoth's own. The ways of knighthood, or rather its concept, seemed to be shared amongsts the galaxy, mostly in civilized worlds. The arcosian was glad that such a concept existed for saiyans as well, maybe there would be a way to rally some of them to Azoth's empire, to make sure no purge were executed under his command.

A chuckle would escape Azoth's lips when he noticed Nasu's tail flailing around when Cheri said they were friends... if Cheri was not aware of Nasu's feeling by that point, it seemed obvious that the saiyan male had fallen for the Tuffle woman, but Azoth would not bring that subject back up, just a chuckle was enough for now.

This discussion with Tuffle resistance really did enlighten Azoth to their conflict, and much more empathic than with Yangcong, where he just warned them of the danger that were saiyans. Perhaps without paying too much attention, he grew fond of these two, even if they were a bit doubtful of him still... that would fix itself soon enough, or at least he hoped so.

But then, Nasu said a word. A word that Azoth could not agree with.

'' I am not going on a crusade against anyone. I fully intend of giving you support fighting off the saiyans from Plant, but I would also be inclined to help them find a world they could live on. I do not know yet of the reason why saiyans are invading Planet Plant, but if they need a home, then after driving them off yours, it would be my duty as the galaxy's emperor to help them find one of their own. ''

This was probably were Azoth's ideology would lose most people, if one was to sit above the rest of the galaxy, there was a need for pardon. He would need to offer his hand to anyone who would be willing to seize it and better themselves, and the saiyans were capable of reason, he knew that from Ise, and even Nasu here. Although he would not hesitate to fight off and kill some on the battlefronts of Plant, that much was clear to him.

Finally, a peculiar question, probably grown from their different understanding of an empire, would arise from Cheri, one Azoth was glad he could answer.

'' I believe this is where Arcose and Plant's vision differ. As Emperor of Arcose, I cannot rule over the galaxy on my own, nor can I impose my ruling. Think of the galaxy as one big planet, there is the capital and all the other cities. Arcose would be the capital of the empire, and I, its ruler, and as such, the other worlds would swear allegiance to me, and open their borders for trade, culture exchange and provide their army for group effort and defense.''

Azoth marked a pause, gesturing a bit with his hand.

'' .. but when it comes to rules, laws, ideology and state affairs, planets would be, let's say, 95% independant, with their own form of governement. If I am to weave the galaxy together, to unite worlds... it has to be by choice, by providing the tools to better them. I do not wish to have an arcosian ruler on every planet, an ambassy at most. What you call imperialism is a selfish concept applied by my ancestors and many others, one where the capital searches only to better itself through acquisition, that is not the way of my empire.''

Surely, that would clarify that. Azoth really hoped Cheri would rally to his idea, he knew too well what the influence of a general could be, and who knows, perhaps she could be the leader of Plant under the empire's banner, her ideas did seem interesting, and not necessarely incompatible with his own.

Time to prove to the world that it can be a better place, we need heroes.

Nasu could see where Cheri was going; there was definitely no eternal dynasty. Not to mention the fact that Azoth also soon mentioned that the latest leader was basically a slacker, but that perhaps made sense; he believed even the Saiyan would have heard of the Arcosians if they had been something more than a terrific Empire in the prior years, but perhaps, he wondered what really this leader was up to instead of working for his country? He couldn’t even produce an offspring to take his place.

Or maybe he wondered; if it was truly this General that dictated things — he wondered if perhaps he didn’t have a role in the death of the previous leader. He wouldn’t have been surprised, such things were more common than one would think; he knew it quite well.

“R...right.”

He somewhat regretted trying to figure out what a space lizard was like down there, but he had asked and it was only fair he’d get an answer, as his head nodded. He believed for a second that they laid eggs or something like that. He was surprised, however. So that was natural armor? He wondered just how much of a protection it truly was.

“Thank you for the insight.”

Azoth did bring up a good point. Arcose and Plant’s visions, could they really be compared? He began to wonder, exactly, as well, if any and all Tuffles were similar to Cheri. The Saiyan was delighted and proud to help General Cheri, she helped him get over his problems and for the better, saving him from a life of blankness and returned him into striving for something better. He believed he could really be grateful to the Tuffle, but part of him also wondered: what was the plan of the Tuffles? Who knew. Was it supremacy? Could it be something else? Honestly, to him it was not the matter.

Nasu was not the kind of person to plan out things so they could turn out the best for him. He never wanted to try and gain any benefit into anyone’s plans either, all he did was see what was right and what was wrong. He believed in no good and evil; anyone was capable of doing the wrong, and therefore, that was why he didn’t care about who he helped. If it’d backfire against him one day, he was going to face that consequence as well. That was the way of his Knighthood, there were no bigger plans.

If there was danger, he would have been the shield and lance to end it all. Thankfully he was not that conceited to believe he could actually stop and help everyone: he knew there were people way stronger than him but that was why he had to throw himself in the action. If he didn’t he would have both felt regret later and lost a chance to grow. In a way, he also agreed with Azoth’s way of doing things. To which, he lowered his head briefly.

“You and I think the same. Or similarly. To me, to crusade is the very honor of taking back what was theirs to begin with — I do not condone mindless murder. For ever since I was a child, my grandfather and mother have shown me the pride one could take in the very labour and effort they put into things. I am not saying I could not take a life, but I am afraid it would not be without second thoughts.”

Nasu’s head slowly rose and allowed his arms to embrace his torso, his finger resting across his boulder-like biceps that were pressed against his body. But he slowly shut his eyes.

“But I could not help the Saiyans to begin with, even if Plant was to win. I would not be welcome at all in doing so. If you could try and help out those who share the sinful heritage I would be thankful, Azoth.”

Both eyes shut briefly and slowly nodded his way to him.

“I am confident everyone has the ability to do the right thing. I am not sure if the Vegeteans could get it, but what has shaped me to be this way was living in a different culture than theirs. I recognize that much. I am no different by any other way. But I do wonder, if cultural exchange across the entire galaxy could achieve peace. I think it could help but I am not sure it would be that easy. It would have to be a very slow process.”

The ideal of peace and war was one he could understand because it was much like a battle; there were factors that easily prevented certain things from happening. He did not believe cultures being open with one another could unite them but initiate a defense mechanism that would make certain people remain isolated and become even more aggressive. That was also a chance. He knew that Azoth did not mean to quite literally unite them in such a drastic way, but he believed the Arcosian Ambassadors would easily be overthrown by the local population.

His eyes once more opened.

“I believe you would do good in trying to help them. The good one single person can do, can truly make the difference. But I don’t think we’ll see peace, either you or I. It’s something that may take forever to take place. As long as there will be a banner, there will be someone who wants different colors upon the flag. Whether it is a world or a smaller opposition.”

Nasu once more spared an eye for Cheri, he did not turn towards her, but he still looked at her. She was, for some reason, the perfect example of how it took one person to help somebody who had lost his way. Of course, however, the Saiyan was not in the same position as many Vegeteans. Many of those had, by now, been shaped differently but to him it just meant it would not have been as easy, but not impossible, to perhaps find some kind of 'truce'.

Not that the Saiyan put any hope in such a thing. Still, it would not have been half bad.

“I had given up on a lot of things. And who knows, maybe I could be on a different path, right now. But I was lucky that Cheri opened my eyes and I could not be more grateful to her. Even if Plant’s views were to differ one day from mine, I would help her no less.”

That, too, in itself was the duty of a Knight. There had to be no blood oath or whatnot, but he would step over his slowly reforming pride if he were to turn his back on the one who managed to snap him back to life. In that, he believed Cheri could at least trust in an unlikely (due to his blood), loyal ally.

His sight once more rested upon Azoth, with the faint shadow of a smile.

“Who knows. Maybe I am wrong and you could actually make some kind of unity. In that case, you should totally slap it into my face, one day. Those very ambitions and nobility give you strength and purpose. I do hope you will be the one to lead Arcose over your opposition.”

Of course an if remained in his head. If he truly was like this, as he still listened to his trusted Cheri: imperialists were no good, in a way, this very lizard could be lying as naturally as he breathed. Or he was genuine. Either way, he wasn’t going to shoot him down like that and would give him the benefit of the doubt but with a careful approach.
